ISRAEL BOMBS NEW MILITARY POSITIONS IN SYRIA AND MISSILES FIRE BACK, REPORTS SAY

Israeli missiles have reportedly targeted military positions in Syria as local air defenses fired back in an attempt to intercept the attack.

Citing defense sources, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported Thursday that the Syrian armed forces had intercepted an Israeli attack on a military airport in the central province of Homs. No casualties have been reported, and Israel has yet to claim responsibility, but the country routinely keeps silent about its growing military role in neighboring Syria, where Israel recently launched a historic wave of airstrikes against suspected Iranian and pro-Iran targets.

US warns of 'firm measures' if Syria launches new assault

The US has warned Syria it will take "firm and appropriate measures" if government forces violate a ceasefire by launching an anticipated assault on the rebel-held region of Daraa.

Emboldened by recent victories over rebel outposts near Damascus, government forces of President Bashar al-Assad were on Wednesday reportedly moving into the Daraa province, and Syrian government aircraft have dropped leaflets there calling on rebels to surrender or face being killed.

The territory, one of the last large areas controlled by rebel groups, is covered by a ceasefire agreement signed between the US, Russia and neighbouring Jordan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Didn't the US violate the cease fire with that air attack a few days ago?

Israel Attacked Syria From Lebanon, Hezbollah's Nasrallah Says

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said Friday Israel attacked Syria from Lebanese airspace overnight, adding that "every day the Israeli enemy enters our airspace." Israel announced last week it was the first country to deploy the F-35 in operational combat, and a photo of the stealth bomber over Beirut was broadcast on Israeli media.

Nasrallah spoke Friday marking the anniversary of Israel's withdrawal from south Lebanon 18 years ago, following a war of attrition waged by the group that eventually led to an Israeli pullout. The day is marked as "Liberation Day" in Lebanon, a national holiday.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 25, 2018: ISRAELI, US STRIKES ON GOVERNMENT FORCES. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Late on May 24, Israeli warplanes carried out several strikes on the al-Dabaa airbase in the southwestern Homs countryside, according to pro-government sources. The Syrian Air Defense Forces (SADF) responded to the attack by launching at least 2 S-200 surface-to-air missiles, according to local activists.

The General Command of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) said in an official statement that the Israeli Air Force had targeted an airbase in central Syria. It added that the SADF had repelled the Israeli attack.

At the same time, reports appeared that the missiles launch were allegedly caused by a false alarm. However, this version is still unconfirmed.

The al-Dabaa airbase is well known for being one of the key HQs of Hezbollah in Syria.

Early on May 24, the Syrian state-run media and the Hezbolalh media wing in Syria reported that US-led coalition aircraft had carried out strikes on positions of the pro-government forces near al-Bukamal, al-Mayadin and the T2 pumping station.

The jet fired two missiles from the Syrian-Lebanese border, one of them was shot down before it hit the airfield, while the other hit an arms depot in the vicinity of the airport, Causing the fire to ignite.

Eyewitnesses reported the outbreak of fire on the Lebanese-Syrian border as a result of the Israeli missile after being targeted by the Syrian air defense.

There is information on a number of casualties that have been taken to Homs hospitals.

Syria Rejects US Demand for Iranian Pullout

One of the 12 demands issued by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was a complete pullout from Syria of all pro-Iranian forces. Iran hasn’t really had a chance to respond, but Syria has already chimed in, rejecting the idea.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad said the matter isn’t even up for discussion, noting that the decision “concerns the sovereignty of Syria.” He added Syria’s government is grateful for the help of Iranian military advisers, as well as Russian troops.

Mikdad further faulted the US for its continued intervention in Syria, and its “support of terrorists in Syria and elsewhere.” The US has troops within Syria, but those troops were not invited by the Syrian government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Syrian Deputy Minister Mikdad is absolutely correct in his assessment; unfortunately, Pompeo and Bolton will use this as their excuse to escalate the US war in Syria, ultimately translating into wars against Russia and Iran.

US-led strike hits government targets in Syria – state media

US-led coalition warplanes have bombed several Syrian army positions in the eastern Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor, state media outlet SANA reports, citing a military source.

The attack took place shortly after midnight on Thursday. SANA reported that the US-led coalition aircraft inflicted limited material damage and no casualties. The airstrikes, which hit near the city of Al-Bukamal, were reportedly coordinated with anti-government militants.

Earlier, Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, an ally of the Syrian forces in the fight with Islamic State (IS, former ISIS/ISIL) said the coalition jets targeted two Syrian army outposts, including an energy installation near the Iraqi border.

“7 Countries In 5 Years:” 2007 Wesley Clark Interview Reveals US Plan To Go To War With Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Somalia, And Sudan

After the scrapping of the Iran nuclear deal by the Trump administration, the re-imposition of sanctions against the Persian nation, and the threat to impose the “toughest sanctions in history,” the US gear-up to destabilize or perhaps even go to war with Iran is becoming more and more visible by the day. A war of words between Iran and the United States is now ensuing with actual military aggression against Iran by Israel in Syria promising to provide an even greater likelihood that the U.S. military and America’s busy intelligence community will soon be working even harder to ensure that Iran is no longer able to resist Atlanticist hegemony.

However, the plan to destroy Iran is nothing new as anyone who has been following the US war machine can easily attest to.

TRUMP’S WAR AGAINST IRAN

Israel launched waves of air attacks and ground shelling on a score of alleged Iranian military positions in Syria this week. Was this a big step forward in the plan by Israel's leader Benjamin Netanyahu and his ally Donald Trump to provoke a major war with Iran? It certainly looks so ... Many of the same war party crowd that engineered the 2003 US invasion of Iraq are now running the Trump administration. Their goal is to cripple Iran and leave the Mideast to joint Saudi-Egyptian-Israeli control. Recall President George W. Bush's assertion that once he had crushed Iraq the next targets of US military intervention would be Lebanon, Syria, Iran and then Pakistan. Invading Iran would not be easy.

"This is the only thing preventing offensive measures by Iran," he added.

The officer also warned Syria not to use its air defenses against Israeli warplanes. "All batteries that fire on Israeli aircraft will be destroyed. All batteries that do not fire on us will not be destroyed," he said, noting that "this policy will continue."

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 23, 2018: BIGGEST ISIS ATTACK NEAR PALMYRA IN PAST FEW MONTHS

On May 22, ISIS attacked positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the T3 pumping station, near the city of Palmyra, in the province of Homs. The attack started with the explosion of a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. Then, ISIS infantry stormed the SAA positions. However, the advance was repelled.

According to pro-government sources, at least 16 SAA soldiers were killed, 14 others were injured and a few vehicles were damaged or destroyed. Pro-militant sources claim that the number of killed soldiers was at least 30.

These were probably the biggest ISIS attacks on government positions since the formal defeat of ISIS in the Euphrates Valley. ISIS units in the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert are still a notable security threat.

Considering that a group of the ISIS terrorists evacuated from southern Damascus will likely end up route in this desert area. The security threat will grow even further.

Syrian government declares capital fully under its control, Daesh ousted

Syria’s military on Monday captured an enclave in southern Damascus from Daesh militants following a ruinous monthlong battle, bringing the entire capital and its far-flung suburbs under full government control for the first time since the civil war began in 2011.
The gains freed President Bashar Assad’s forces to move with allied militiamen on remaining rebel-held territory in the south near the border with Israel, as Syria’s chief ally Iran comes under growing pressure from the Trump administration to withdraw its troops from the country.
Iranian-backed militias, including the Lebanese group Hezbollah, have been instrumental in helping Assad’s over-stretched forces recapture huge areas around Damascus and in the country’s center and north, building a military presence that has alarmed Israel and its US ally, which is now looking to constrain Iran’s activities.

NETANYAHU ORDERS CABINET MEET IN SECRET UNDERGROUND BUNKER, FEARS LEAKS ON SYRIA AND IRAN

In yet another sign that broader war between Israel, Syria, and Iran may be on the horizon Israel’s Channel 10 has revealed in an exclusive broadcast that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently ordered all national security cabinet meetings to be held in a secure underground bunker in Jerusalem.

The National Security Cabinet (NSC), also known as the “inner cabinet,” is akin to the US National Security Council and convenes regularly under the authority of the prime minister in the Prime Minister’s building in Jerusalem. However, according to Channel 10’s Barak Ravid, who broke the story, Netanyahu made the decision out of fear of leaks related to “sensitive discussions on Syria and Iran.”

The underground secure Jerusalem bunker normally hosts the National Crisis Management Center, responsible for emergency planning and response during times of war or national crises.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if the location of these meetings have been moved due to Netanyahu's determination to wage war against all three of these countries, with US military assistance, and quickly.

Public opinion in the US does not augur well for Israel doing this, so Netanyahu may well feel that Israel must move swiftly, to avoid a groundswell of US popular resistance to such actions.

Syrian Army Has Full Control of Metro Damascus After ISIS Ouster

The Syrian Army has issued a statement today declaring victory in the fight over metro Damascus, saying that effective Monday Damascus and all of its surroundings are “completely secure” and under military and government control.

Expelling rebels and jihadists from suburbs of Damascus has been a priority for awhile. The defeat of rebels in Eastern Ghouta was a major step in that direction, but it was only this weekend, with the evacuation of the last few ISIS fighters, that the whole area was secure.

ISIS forces managed to infiltrate the Yarmouk refugee camp and surrounding area, south of Damascus. The refugee camp, which once housed a large number of Palestinians, has been contested repeatedly since the Syrian War began.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congrats to the Russian, Syrian, and Iranian forces which have contributed to making this happen.

But this vile, US/NATO backed war against Al Assad has left the country in utter ruins, and the question of how Syria can get help in rebuilding must be asked, and answered quickly.

Pentagon Threatens More Aggressive Stance Toward Iran

Following up on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s bellicose threats toward Iran, Pentagon officials suggested that moving against Iran would require a “whole government solution.” They pointed toward the Pentagon being more aggressive toward Iran in the future.

While officials were not specific about what the Pentagon would or even might do, they condemned Iran’s “malign influence” in the region. Some talked up freedom of navigation operations, which has long been a favored way for the US Navy to pick fights or escalate tensions with rivals.

Purely theoretically, the freedom of navigation exercise is just meant to prove that ships can safely transit certain waters. Though Iran has never impeded anyone’s ships passing around their sphere of influence, the US Navy has favored parking ships along Iran’s maritime borders, and occasionally hugging that border.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What alleged "malign influence" is the Pentagon talking about here, regarding Iran, please?!?

Just because Iranian advisors were not going to allow Syria to go down in flames, courtesy of a US/NATO cabal, supporting rebels in taking control of Damascus' government, and throwing Al Assad out, is this the reason for the Pentagon's ire against it?!?

Someone... has some 'spaining to do, as to the actual, and specific, activities Iran has really done, then honestly document them, if they think for one moment that they can lead the American people to a mindset of wanting war against the Iranians, who have done nothing negative, or wrong, to the people of the US. The people of this country are both war-weary, and war-skeptical, and more wars will be a lose for any candidate who supports more wars, before mid-term elections here in the US.

Russian Airbase In Syria Attacked By Drones Of "Unknown Origin"

Did the Russians just repel another al-Qaeda mass drone attack, similar to the one in January of this year?

Though details are still unclear, Damascus-based journalist Danny Makki reports that numerous drones have been downed by Russian air-defenses near Khmeimim airbase (or alternately Hmeimim airbase). In the nearby coastal city of Jableh loud aerial explosions could be heard sometime before 11pm local time — thought to be Russian missile defense systems engaging the drones.

The Russian Defense Ministry quickly acknowledged the attack, telling RT News that "An unmanned aircraft of unknown origin has been shot down near the Russian Khmeimim airbase in Syria." And further: "No one was injured in the incident and the base did not sustain any damage," the Russian Defense Ministry said

Webmaster's Commentary:

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 22, 2018: DAMASCUS IS SECURED, DARAA IS NEXT

Late on May 21, Russian air defense systems, allegedly a Pantsir-S short to medium range system, launched at least four missiles at “unidentified” targets over the Khmeimim air base in Syria, according to local sources.

Later, the Russian military revealed that one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) had been shot down. No damage or casualties occurred as a result of the incident.

A similar incident took place on April 24 when Russian forces shot down at least two UAVs armed with projectiles.

The repeated UAV attacks on Russian facilities in Syria are another sign of the changing situation in the country. After a de-facto military defeat of militants in central Syria, they have shifted their activity to sabotage operations, which may allow them to get more public attention from the media and support from their foreign sponsors.

Syrian experts also believe that the possibility of terrorist attacks in the liberated areas is growing.

DUMA PASSES BILL ON COUNTER-SANCTIONS, GIVES RUSSIAN GOVT POWER TO IMPOSE RESTRICTIONS

The Russian State Duma has passed a bill aimed at defending "economic interests and security" in response to the latest sanctions introduced by the United States and its allies.
The motion was drafted by State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and the heads of all four parliamentary caucuses in mid-April, days after the US Treasury Department released a list of 24 Russian citizens and 14 Russian corporations that fall under new sanctions imposed over Russia’s foreign policy.

“The main objective of this federal law is to defend the economic interests and security of the Russian Federation, its territorial integrity and the rights and freedoms of its citizens, from unfriendly actions of the USA and other foreign states that impose political or economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, its citizens and companies or any other activities aimed at destabilizing Russia’s politics or economy,” reads the freshly approved bill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And so, the escalation continues, essentially due to the US government punishing Russia for things it has not done, like allegedly annexing Crimea, which never actually happened.

I hate the way trade wars can escalate into shooting wars, which the Presidents of both countries claim that they do not want, but right now, it looks like a question of when, rather than if, we are looking at a military confrontation between the two.

I cannot tell you if we are looking at that confrontation in Syria; Iran; Dombass/Ukraine, or elsewhere; but I can feel it coming, and with a certain, particular dark aura of ...inevitability.

Did Putin Just Ask For Iran's Exit From Syria In Meeting With Assad?

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad paid an unannounced visit to Vladimir Putin on Thursday evening at the Russian president's summer home in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi where the two leaders discussed the process for winding down the war in Syria, and notably the reduction of foreign troop presence in the country.

This marks the third such known meeting inside Russia between Assad and President Putin since 2015, and the first since two major instances of external airstrikes on the Syrian government dramatically escalated the prospect for broader war. The first was the April 13th US-led coalition attack involving over one hundred missiles on sites in and around Damascus; and the second was the May 10 Israeli attack on dozens of targets inside Syria in what was the biggest military escalation between the two countries in decades.

Meanwhile, Russian companies like Wagner has been doing Putin’s fighting in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is imminently possible that Putin made this suggestion to Al Assad, as a way to attempt to prevent further Israeli bombing attacks against Syria; unfortunately, however, even if Iran withdraws its military advisors, or troops here, this will be no guarantee that Israel will not continue to bomb Syria, to insure that it remains the captor of Syria's Golan Heights, won militarily in 1967, and from which Israel is illegally selling oil contracts.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 21, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY LIBERATES SOUTHERN DAMASCUS AS ISIS WITHDRAWS

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies are about to re-establish full control of the southern Damascus countryside. The SAA has already liberated the entire district of al-Hajar al-Aswad and the rest of the area from ISIS.

On May 19, the SAA and the remaining ISIS militants reached a temporary ceasefire in the area. On May 20, a number of buses entered the area hinting that ISIS was ready to surrender. On May 21, ISIS members started wihdrawing from the area.

The Syrian state media is ignoring this situation and avoiding to cover the deal because of PR reasons. The same strategy has been repeatedly implemented by the US-led coalition and the mainstream media when the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces were making deals with ISIS in Raqqah, Manbij and Tabqah.

'I gave the US trucks and ammunition to Al Qaeda': The chaotic US effort to arm Syrian rebels

U.S. military equipment and ammunition, sent to Syria as part of a failed Obama administration plan to find and arm moderate forces to defeat ISIS, were instead simply handed over to an Al Qaeda group, according to the man who said he himself brokered the deal.

“I communicated with Al Qaeda’s branch, Al Nusra, to protect and safely escort me and my soldiers for two hours from North Aleppo to West Aleppo,” Maj. Anas Ibrahim Obaid, better known on the battlefield as Abu Zayd, told Fox News from his home in the western Aleppo area. “In exchange, I gave them five pickup trucks and ammunition.”

Israeli warplanes increase flights over Syrian-Lebanese border amid fears of another big strike

Israeli warplanes were once again seen stalking the Syrian-Lebanese border just two weeks after launching their largest assault on Damascus since the 1973 October War (var. Yom Kippur War, Ramadan War).

According to a Syrian military report, the Israeli warplanes began their flights in southern Lebanon near the town of Marjeyoun before they made their way towards the Syrian border.

Hassan Nasrallah: Syrian strikes in Golan frightened Israel and broke its prestige

That night, for the first time in history since the cease-fire in the Golan Heights, since the 1973 war, the positions of the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied Golan — we must keep this fact in mind: it is not (only) the Syrian Golan, but the occupied Syrian Golan, and Israelis have been striving day and night for years, because of the events in Syria, to obtain an international recognition and attribution of the Golan to the Israeli entity. For the first time in history, the positions of the army of occupation in the occupied Syrian Golan have suffered a missile strike of this magnitude, in quantity and quality.

Republicans’ Apocalyptic Fantasies Are Now Playing Out in the Middle East

ore than 20 people in Gaza were dead on Monday before anyone in Washington had had their breakfast. This was pitched to the awakening nation as a series of “deadly clashes,” even though the deadly part only applied to one side. It was a great start to a day in which the president*, who doesn’t know anything about anything, prepared to toss a lighted match into a lagoon of gasoline in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This genocidal behaviour on the part of the IDF toward the Palestinians, encouraged and abetted by President Trump's acquiescence to the movement of the American embassy to Tel Aviv, coupled with the end-times insanities of Jeffress and Hagee (which are very dubious, in terms of both Biblical origins and interpretations), and the rabidly wretched racisim of Israeli Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, paints a very ugly picture of 21st century Israel.

The author of this article's likening of what Trump has done here, geopolitically, as being akin to tossing a lighted match into a lagoon of gasoline in the Middle East, is a very adept analysis.

People in the Middle East do not dislike us "For our freedoms", as the war criminal President Bush famously used to love to say; they dislike us because US foreign policy in the region has been completely oursourced to Israel, and Americans have been forced to live with those negative consequences of that Israeli-outsourced foreign policy for far too many years.

That foreign policy led to war with Iraq; it may well lead to a war against Hezbullah in Lebanon; a continuing war against Syria; and a war against Iran. And trust me on this; Tel Aviv wants those wars outsourced to the US military to fight,, but only at the costs borne in American blood, and American money.

The only political leader I am seeing as the adult in the room on these issues of stopping further wars in the region, will be Russia's President Putin; but even he may not be able to stop what I am seeing as the American rush to war in the Middle East, again, to control their pipelines, and in what currencies their oil will be sold.

Congress to Consider Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty Over Golan Heights

Congress is set to consider a new measure to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the contested Golan Heights region that separates Israel from Syria, a key piece of territory that has become all the more important since the civil war in Syria brought scores of jihadist fighters, including those backed by Iran, into the region.

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced on Thursday a resolution that could lead to an historic recognition by the United States that the contested area fully belongs to Israel, according to a copy of the amendment obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Putin & Assad hold ‘extensive’ talks in Sochi, discuss political settlement – Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a meeting with the Syrian leader Bashar Assad in Sochi, the acting presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. The two leaders conducted “extensive” negotiations, he added.
As the two presidents talked about the conditions that would facilitate the peace process development, the Syrian leader said that he had decided to send a delegation to a committee tasked to rewrite Syria’s constitution, which was championed by the UN.

The agreement on the creation of the constitutional committee was one of the major results of the Sochi peace congress held in January this year. The participants of the congress agreed on January 30 to set up the constitutional committee in Geneva, and to hold democratic elections in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This... is absolutely huge!!

In these moves, both President Putin and President Assad have been at least 500 chess moves ahead of the United States and Israel here, both of which want to see Syria balkanized.

I seriously doubt, at this point in the game, that Russia is going to allow this to happen.

US Slams Russian Veto After OPCW Syria Alleged Attack Probe Fails to Find Blame

The US State Department blamed Russia in a statement on Thursday for using Security Council veto to block the renewal of a United Nations chemical probe in Syria after the investigation failed to determine who was behind an alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria in February.

"The OPCW’s Fact-Finding Mission does not attribute responsibility for an attack. Unfortunately, Russia has vetoed the renewal of Joint Investigative Mechanism, which was the only impartial and independent body with the mandate for attributing responsibility, at the UN Security Council five times," the statement said.

Previously, several media outlets and Western countries accused Damascus of using chemical weapons in the Syrian town of Douma on April 7. The Syrian government and Russia have refuted the allegations, saying that it was staged by local militants and the White Helmets non-governmental organization. The Syrian government had also invited the experts from OPCW to investigate the reports.

Turkey rules out returning Afrin to Assad

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akda? has ruled out returning the Syrian district of Afrin, captured by Turkish troops and their allies from Syrian Kurdish forces in March, to the Syrian government, Turkish pro-government newspaper Daily Sabah said .

"A free and democratic Syria can only be built without (Syrian President Bashar) Assad. He has killed many of his fellow citizens and brought much suffering to his country," the newspaper quoted Akda? as saying.

He said that Turkey did not wish to remain in the area for the long term and wanted to return it soon to the Syrian people.

"We want to give Afrin back to the local population, who should be there to decide for themselves,” Akda? said.

“A local Afrin council has been set up, which is a decision-making body with local representatives.”

US seeking to turn OPCW into ‘manipulation instrument’ to exert pressure on Syria – Russian MoD

Washington and its allies are trying to force the OPCW to level accusations against Damascus even though there is no solid evidence of its culpability in alleged chemical incidents in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

“The initiators of the missile strike [against Syrian government targets in April] attempt to force the OPCW [Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons] to bring any accusations [against] Damascus,” even though pinning the blame is actually beyond the scope of the international chemical weapons watchdog’s jurisdiction, the ministry said in a statement.

The ultimate goal of the US and its allies is to turn the OPCW into a “US-controlled manipulation instrument [used] to exert political pressure on Syria,” the Defense Ministry said. The US, the UK and France particularly try to do that to retroactively justify their strikes against the Syrian military and civilian facilities, it added.

Russia’s Relationship With Israel And The S-300 Controversy

By Brandon Turbeville

Ever since the Israeli-Syrian skirmish (falsely reported as an Israeli-Iranian clash in Syria by the mainstream press), questions have been circulating about what this means for Syria, Israel, Iran and the region, even the rest of the world. Was the retaliation by Syria all that was needed to finally make Israel understand that there might be consequences for its actions? Is this the beginning of a wider war between the two? What will be the response of the United States? The response of Russia?

While a full-on military conflict between Syria and Israel did not happen in the hours after the missiles ceased firing, it was announced by the Russians that Russia would not be sending its famed S-300s to Syria. This was despite a warning by the Russians earlier that the previous U.S. missile strikes against Syria removed all “moral hurdles” previously in Russia’s way to do so...

Get Ready for the New Middle East Battlefield: The Golan

The exchange of missiles last week on the Syrian-Israeli border was anything but normal.

This firefight established new rules of engagement in the Levant, and made the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights an “operational theater” in the Syrian conflict overnight.

The mainstream media’s version of events began with Israel retaliating against Iranian missile strikes, and the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) destroying Iran’s military capabilities inside Syria. But that information is questionable: it comes almost exclusively from Israelis who rarely miss an opportunity to beat the “Iranian threat” war drum.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It needs to be remembered that Israel fired first, launching an attack on Syria less than an hour after Trump announced the withdrawal from the Iran deal.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 17, 2018: ARMY LIBERATES RASTAN POCKET, ADVANCES IN SOUTHERN DAMASCUS

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have captured most of ISIS positions in the northern part of the al-Hajar al-Aswad district in southern Damascus. The ISIS defense collapsed following a successful attack by the SAA on the al-Quds Mosque.

At the same time, the Syrian Air Force has carried out more strikes on ISIS positions in al-Hajar al-Aswad and in the Yarmouk refugee camp.

The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed on May 16 that ISIS members had killed over 50 SAA service members over the past 3 days. Two SAA battle tanks were also damaged, according to Amaq.

According to local sources, the ISIS defense is collapsing and government forces are expected to liberate more areas soon.

OPCW confirms chlorine use in February attack in Syria

The Hague (AFP) – A global arms watchdog on Wednesday confirmed that chlorine was “likely used as a chemical weapon” in a February attack on the Syrian town of Saraqeb.

A fact-finding mission by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons determined that “chlorine was released from cylinders by mechanical impact in the Al Talil neighbourhood of Saraqeb” on February 4, an OPCW statement said.

The team’s conclusions were based on finding two cylinders “which were determined as previously containing chlorine.”

Environmental samples also “demonstrated the unusual presence of chlorine in the local environment,” said the organisation, based in The Hague.

However, in line with its mandate the watchdog did not say which side in Syria’s complex seven-year civil war was responsible for using chlorine.

Putin: Russian cruise missile-armed ships to remain in Syrian waters to prevent terrorist comeback

Russia will keep its warships – armed with Kalibr cruise missiles – in the Mediterranean to thwart the possible re-emergence of terrorist groups in Syria, President Vladimir Putin said, hailing the navy’s operations overseas.
Russia’s standing naval task force, which includes warships equipped with Kalibr-class cruise missiles, will remain off Syrian shores on permanent deployment “given the persistent threat of terrorist incursions” in the country, Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

Russia’s naval presence in the Mediterranean has become a game-changer in combatting terrorism in Syria, Putin said, adding that “missile strikes as well as efficient action by our naval aircraft inflicted serious damage to terrorists.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

What was not said, but loudly telegraphed in this statement, is that Russia will not permit the return of US-sponsored, funded, and armed terrorist groups to Syria.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 16, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY LIBERATES DOZENS OF VILLAGES IN RASTAN POCKET

Syrian forces have re-established control of the area east of the M5 highway in the Rastan pocket in northern Homs now that militants have withdrawn from the area. According to pro-government sources, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies are now in control of over 30 settlements located there.

At the same time, the evacuation of militants from the pocket is still ongoing. On May 15, 73 buses left the area.

As soon as the evacuation deal is fully implemented, the SAA will establish full control of the Rastan area. This will allow the Syrian government to start to use more actively the M5 highway, which is a vital supply line linking southern and northern Syria. However, a part of the highway heading through the province of Idlib is still in the hands of militants. According to pro-government sources, this area is one of the targets of upcoming military operations by the SAA and its allies.

"Together with the Akhmad Kadyrov Foundation, we carried out a humanitarian mission in Ein Tarma, distributing ten tonnes of food"... Russian military doctors provided medical assistance to the town’s residents. "More than 60 people requested our help, half of them children. Adults mostly suffer from heart and bone diseases, as well as from diabetes. Syrian Army has evidence ISIS, terrorists, use Israeli weapons

As rebels in Syria surrender their medium and heavy weapons, the Syrian Army is driving ISIS out of the southern countryside, near the Golan Heights.

The Syrian army has found something peculiar amongst the captured arsenal of hundreds of different weapons. The weapons captured included grenades, many RPGs, makeshift mortars, and even WW2 era machine guns, however, this was not what caught the eye of government forces.

What was particularly interesting, was the presence of Israeli made landmines, as described in a report by Fort Russ. Syrian media posted a video of the captured weapons, which show the massive disparity in arms, but the Israeli mines as described in the report are particularly interesting.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 15, 2018: PALESTINIAN-ISRAELI CONFLICT FUELS SYRIA CRISIS

At least 59 Palestinian protesters were killed and 2,771 were injured by Israeli forces near the so-called security fence in the Gaza Strip during the May 14 demonstrations denouncing the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

Various sources provide conflicting numbers of people involved in the protests, but all of them agrees that there were at least 35,000-40,000 people at the security fence and in the nearby area.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the Israeli actions as self-defense against the Palestinian movement Hamas, which “intends to destroy Israel and sends thousands to breach the border fence in order to achieve this goal,” according to his remarks.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett told Israel Radio that the Israeli government will treat any person approaching the fence as a “terrorist”.

Hezbollah leader says 55 missiles were fired on Israeli-occupied Golan Heights to mark the start of a 'completely new stage' that will go to the 'greatest extent' to defend Syria

The leader of Lebanon's powerful Hezbollah group, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, said on Monday a missile attack from Syria into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights last week marked a new phase in the Syrian war.

Russia welcomes Egypt’s refusal to send troops to Syria on US proposal

Russia views positively Egypt’s decision against sending its troops to Syria as was proposed by Washington, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after negotiations between Russian and Egyptian foreign and defense ministers in the 2+2 format on Monday.

“We touched upon this issue in the context of discussing the Syria situation, in the context of discussing actions of the so-called foreign players, including, of course, the United States, because it is precisely its idea to invite Arab countries to send their contingents to the Syrian Arab Republic,” the Russian foreign minister said.

MSM Is Frantically Attacking Dissenting Syria Narratives, And It Looks Really Bad

I write a lot about how, in a political environment that is saturated in disinformation and propaganda, it’s important to ignore people’s words and watch their actions instead to get a clear picture of what’s really happening. You could not ask for a better illustration of this than the recent behavior of the mass media with regard to Syria.

The always excellent Moon of Alabama put out a piece yesterday detailing the immense deluge of attack editorials disguised as information that have been churned out recently about anyone who questions the establishment Syria narrative, including a single day in which no less than seven smear pieces were issued by prominent publications. Seven. In one day.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 14, 2018: BATTLE FOR SOUTHERN DAMASCUS ENTERS ITS FINAL PHASE

Following a full liberation of Beit Sahm, Babbila, Sidi Miqdad and Yelda in southern Damascus, Syrian government forces have focused their efforts on combating ISIS in the Yarmouk refugee camp, Taqaddom and in the northern part of al-Hajar al-Aswad.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), Liwa al-Quds, the Palestinian Liberation Army and other pro-government factions have liberated the Educational Development Center, the Assad Bin Al-Furat school, the UNRWA school, the Jazeera roundabout and multiple nearby points in al-Hajar al-Aswad from ISIS. Currently, the main clashes between government troops and ISIS members are ongoing near the town hall.

At the same time, the Syrian Air Force has also stepped up its bombing campaign against the remaining ISIS fortifications in the area.

According to the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq, 38 SAA soldiers have recently died in the recent clashes in southern Damascus.

Syria Imposes New Rules of Engagement on Israel

On Thursday 10th May 2018, an unprecedented exchange of strikes happened between Israel and Syria. The mainstream media, as well as some “alternative” media like Russia Today, were quick to relay the Israeli army version, according to which the Zionist entity “retaliated” to an “Iranian attack by Revolutionary Guards’ Al-Quds Force” consisting of “twenty rockets” fired at Israeli positions in the occupied Golan, four of which were “intercepted by the Iron Dome” and the others “crashed into Syrian territory”, no damage being recorded in Israel. Israel has reportedly responded to this unprecedented “act of aggression” by a “large-scale operation” that would have destroyed “the entire Iranian infrastructure in Syria”, in order to deter the Islamic Republic from any stray impulse of future strikes.

Israel Has No Real Desire for War with Iran, But US Might Lead Battle

Israel has launched its biggest attack ever on Iranian forces in Syria. This is a serious development, but reports of the entire Middle East being on the verge of all out war fail to fully appreciate the motives and intentions of the various players.

Looked at from the Israeli point of view, it is an excellent moment to act against Iran in Syria because it is unlikely that the Iranians will respond in a serious way.

In the wake of Donald Trump’s withdrawal of the US from the Iran nuclear deal, the Iranians want to show the rest of the world, and particularly the Europeans, that they are the reliable and pacific upholders of the 2015 treaty.

This phase may not last long and does not mean that the Iranians have any faith in the EU states keeping the accord alive. But they do want to ensure that the EU and others will only grudgingly cooperate with the reimposition of draconian sanctions by the US.

Russia’s Presence in Syria is Far From Over

In the West, it’s easy to concentrate on each daily drama about the Middle East and forget the world in which the real people of the region live. The latest ravings of the American president on the Iran nuclear agreement – mercifully, at last, firmly opposed by the EU – obscure the lands of mass graves and tunnels in which the Muslim Middle East now exists. Even inside the area, there has now arisen an almost macabre disinterest in the suffering that has been inflicted here over the past six years. It’s Israel’s air strikes in Syria that now takes away the attention span.

‘You Are a Terror State’: Erdogan Says Israel Pushing Region Into War

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Israel of using unnecessary aggression in Syria and blamed Tel Aviv for pushing the entire region toward full-scale war.

In an interview with BBC Arabic on Sunday, Erdogan said that Israel is "sowing fear and pushing" the Middle Eastern "region to war."

Israeli-made weapons among arms handed over by militants in Damascus

Israeli-made landmines were found in a large trove of medium and heavy weapons handed over by rebels in southern Damascus, Syria's state media reported. Damascus has repeatedly accused Tel Aviv of aiding militants.

As the Syrian army is driving out the last remaining terrorists from the southern outskirts of Damascus, those who refuse to completely lay down their arms and surrender are being evacuated to rebel-controlled parts of northern Syria, mainly Idlib. As part of the deal with the Syrian authorities, militants are leaving behind medium and heavy weapons.

The Summer of War and Chaos: US-Israel Plan to Balkanize the Middle East

Tensions are at an all-time high in the Middle East as Israel launched more than sixty missiles at Syria because Israel claimed that Iranian forces fired rockets into the Golan Heights, an Israel-occupied territory since the 1967 Six-Day War.

ran responded to the Israeli claims in a Zero Hedge report:

In the aftermath of one of the most severe Israeli attacks on Syria “in decades,” Iranian lawmakers said Thursday that Iran had no role in the attack, and that Shia nation doesn’t operate any bases in Syria.

Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s national security and foreign policy committee, said Israel’s claim that Iran had provoked Israel by firing first was “a lie,” adding that

“Israel’s history of carrying out unprovoked attacks in Syria has been well-documented.” “Iran does not have military base in Syria,” Nobandegani added

Webmaster's Commentary:

Trust me, Israel, enabled by the US government will continue to provoke and provide provocations against Iran, until Iran has no recourse but to fight back; at least, that is what Israeli government officials are hoping to attack.

So, one has to wonder; what will Russia do, if there are more attacks against Syria, with the ultimate goal of getting Iran to act militarily?!? I certainly hope that Russia's Vlad Putin has his chess moves in order here, because I think at the moment, he is the only world leader capable of preventing the Middle East from devolving into the chaos Netanyahu and Trump seem to so desperately want to see happen.

Israel Baits the Hook. Will Syria Bite?

At face value, for Iran to inexplicably launch missiles at Israel, unprovoked and achieving no conceivable tactical, strategic, or political gain strains the credibility of Israel’s narrative even further.

But it is perhaps published US policy designating Israel as a hostile provocateur tasked with expanding Washington’s proxy war against Damascus that fully reveals the deadly and deceptive game Israel and the Western media are now playing.

For years, US policymakers admitted in their papers that the US desired regime change in Iran and sought to provoke a war to achieve it.

Israel Baits the Hook

The corporate-funded Brookings Institution – whose sponsors include weapon manufacturers, oil corporations, banks, and defense contractors – published a 2009 paper titled, “Which Path to Persia? Options for a New American Strategy Toward Iran,” and would not only spell out the US desire for regime change in Iran but devise a number of options to achieve it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is most likely why we will see a "false flag" in either Syria or Iran, to be blamed on Iran, to give the US/Israeli governments the "justifications" for a war, which Russia's Vlad Putiin is keen to see NOT go forward, as that will diminish Russia's expanding influence in the region, both geopolitically and economically.

I am, for one, rather astonished that no large false flag has yet been concocted to bring such a war about, although God knows, with its attacks on Iranian bases in Syria, the IDF has truly tried to make this happen.

Expect to see more aggression by Israel and/or the United States, until such a war is accomplished.

Israel Nudges Trump Towards War With Iran

So what does all this add up to? In pulling the United States out of the international nuclear deal, Trump has heightened tensions with Iran on a number of issues unrelated to whatever nuclear ambitions that country may have. Netanyahu, who hated the nuclear deal from the start because it eased tensions and diminished pressure on Iran, now sees his opportunity to goad the Islamic Republic with pinprick airstrikes against Iranian positions in Syria. With Israel killing Iranians, a retaliatory response is inevitable, which is what Netanyahu wants. In this dangerous escalation of tensions, Trump has positioned his country on the side of Israel and against Iran; this will encourage further provocations by Netanyahu.

You don’t have to be Count Metternich to perceive where this is leading. It’s difficult to see how, under these circumstances, war can be avoided, while it’s easy to see how events could flip out of control and lead to war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why Netanyahu is hoping to goad the US government into its own war against Iran and Syria, the costs of which would only be borne by American blood, and American money, which will galvanize Moscow to fight against the US in both Syria and Iran.

Such a war, at this time, would be catastrophic to the regime in DC, because at this time in its history, the US military doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strenth; the money; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to any conventional war against Russia. Once those in the bowels of power in DC understand this, such a war could go both nuclear, and global.

So what would the current Netanyahu government have to gain from such a war?!?

Control over all the oil fields in the Middle East; that, and with which currency the oil is sold for, are the primary motivating factors here.

NIMMO: DONALD TRUMP’S NEOCON CONVERSION WAS PREDICTABLE

During the election, I wrote a little ebook titled “Donald Trump’s War on Islam.” In addition to pointing out Trump’s pandering to Islamophobia, I wrote about his association with a number of neocons, including Frank Gaffney and John Bolton, who is now his national security adviser. “I think John Bolton’s a good man,” Trump told the Hugh Hewitt Show.
“I watched him yesterday, actually, and he was very good in defending me in some of my views, and very, very strong. And I’ve always liked John Bolton. BEX ALERT - Have Iran and Israël declared a new war?

This fellow jumped the shark a couple of years ago.
This piece seems to follow the Israeli line pretty closely in framing Iran for the Syrian missile strikes.

This morning of 10 May 2018, at approximately 0h30, the al-Qods Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard – the Iranian military elite – attacked Israël from its bases in Syria. Israël is the Pentagon’s arsenal in the region (sites 51, 53, 55 and 56). UK ACCIDENTALLY ADMITS USE OF HORRIFYING, ORGAN RUPTURING WEAPONS IN SYRIA

At the beginning of the month (May 2018) the British Ministry of Defence seemingly on accident revealed for the first time that they are unloading horrifyingly inhumane, thermobaric weapons out of drones onto the people of Syria: and it wasn’t even in this recent April 2018 escalation of tension, but last year. They are doing it more often than they’d like to admit.

Somehow the use of thermobaric weapons seems less humane than ripping a person to shreds with shrapnel.

The weapons work by igniting oxygen surrounding the weapon.

A cloud of explosive chemicals is released, and upon impact the fuel-air mixture is detonated, exploding the lungs of animals and human beings in the vicinity, not damaging structures much but filling the lungs of all animals with fuel and burning them in what may be one of the most horrifying ways imaginable to die.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable!!!

But then again, please remember that this one of the countries selling bombs and weapons to Prince Salman of Saudi Arabia, which he is using to assassinate infants, women, children, and the medically fragile elderly in Yemen.

This... from the country which gave the world the Magna Carta; how in the name of heaven could it have fallen so morally low as to be doing this in Syria?!?!?

Israel Now Faces New Rules Of Engagement In Syria

Even as CNN is out with a new report condemning Iran for denying any responsibility or role in the latest massive exchange of fire between Israel and Syria, The New York Times has admitted (albeit buried deep in the story) that Israel was the actual aggressor and initiator of hostilities which threatened to spiral out of control overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning.

While CNN and most Israeli and mainstream media sources blame Iran for initiating an attack on Israel, on the very day of the early morning strikes (Thursday), the Times acknowledged, "The barrage [of Syria/Iran missiles] came after an apparent Israeli missile strike against a village in the Syrian Golan Heights late Wednesday."

Reckless actions’ Trump warns Iran is THREATENING Middle East as tensions soar

DONALD Trump said Iran’s “reckless actions” pose a threat to regional security today as he urged other countries to press Tehran to change its behaviour.

He said: “It is time of responsible nations to bring pressure on Iran to change this dangerous behaviour.”

The US President was referring to the rockets fired at the Golan Heights from Syria this week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Donny, there are two things you need to remember.

1. The rockets were fired in response to Israel's attack on Syria just one hour after you violated the Iran deal.

2. The rockets were fired by Syrian forces, not Iran.

Russia Bows to US and Israel, No S-300s for Syria

It’s not forthcoming, not now at least. According to Putin’s military technical cooperation aide Vladimir Kozhin, Russia will not supply S-300s to Syria’s military – nor are talks about possible delivery being held.

Kozhin falsely claimed Syrian armed forces have “all” the air defense systems “they need” – a shameful remark, clearly untrue.

Failure to supply with what Syria vitally needs constitutes betrayal – yielding to US/Israeli interests at the expense of its own security.

If Russia fails to confront US-led aggression in Syria more forcefully, Assad could fall, his government replaced, isolating Iran ahead of similar action to replace the Islamic Republic with pro-Western puppet rule.

It’s no match against US/Israeli aggression if events unfold this way. If they achieve regional hegemony, Russia and China are next on Washington’s target list.

Russia backtracks on Syrian missile sale after Netanyahu visit: report

"For now, we're not talking about any deliveries of new modern systems," the aide, Vladimir Kozhin, reportedly said. The S-300 sales to Syria were raised last month after the U.S., France and the United Kingdom launched a series of strikes on Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb allegedly carried out by the Syrian government. [NOTE: At least the article says "allegedly," that's better than most!!]

Who we are, why we're digging: Team probing Syrian war & Skripal poisoning case reveal all

Dismissed in the press, the academics behind the Working Group on Syria, Propaganda and Media have found few outlets for their research. Despite this, they have extended their studies from the Syrian war to the Skripal case.

Made up of 15 academics, researchers, and PhD candidates across the UK, the group was established to "facilitate research into the areas of organised, persuasive communication (including propaganda and information operations)... with respect to the 2011-present conflict in Syria, including related topics."

So far, the group has been slammed by the media, including a hit piece in The Times that accused the group of "spreading pro-Assad disinformation and conspiracy theories." Others have praised their work for questioning mainstream narratives and providing pluralism.

Russia 'not in talks' with Syria to supply S-300, says top Kremlin aide

Russia is not in talks with the Syrian government about supplying advanced S-300 missile defense systems to Syria in an effort to bolster the war-torn Arab nation’s defensive capabilities, a top Kremlin aide says.

The comments come against the backdrop of a visit to Moscow by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has played down the idea that Moscow performed a U-turn on the missile question or that any decision was linked to Netanyahu’s visit. Peskov declined to comment on Kozhin’s remarks, stressing that it would be wrong to connect those statements with the Israeli premier’s visit to Moscow.
