What may unfold in Syria's Idlib ?

What may unfold in Syria's Idlib and why is a 'bloodbath' likely?
Idlib is the Syrian government's next target, experts say, but other scenarios may unfold with regional players at hand.

Just weeks after scoring a major military victory in the south, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad appears set to fully open a new, more complex, front in the country's war - now in its eighth year.

The key northwestern Idlib province is the Syrian opposition's last major bastion in the country. It is currently home to nearly three million people, half of whom are internally displaced, and encloses what was once a major commercial highway linking Syria to Turkey and Jordan.

Along with sharing a border with Turkey, Idlib is adjacent to Latakia province, a Syrian government stronghold that is home to the biggest military airbase of its major ally, Russia.

Idlib's strategic importance is what makes a government-led assault imminent, experts say, and its capture would put the vast majority of the country under Assad's control.

ISIS GIVEN ‘BREATHING SPACE’ IN PARTS OF SYRIA UNDER US-BACKED FORCES' CONTROL

Islamic State managed to regain access to Syrian oil fields and make profits from selling oil, a new UN report reveals. While the UN did not point fingers, the IS reemergence seems to occur in areas held by the US-backed forces.
“Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant [IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS], having been defeated militarily in Iraq and most of the Syrian Arab Republic during 2017, rallied in early 2018. This was the result of a loss of momentum by forces fighting it in the east of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the recent report from the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Monitoring Team reads. The document is dated July 27, but was only released to the public this week.

The slow-down gave IS “breathing space to prepare for the next phase of its evolution into a global covert network.” As of June 2018, the terrorist group has been controlling “small pockets of territory in the Syrian Arab Republic on the Iraqi border,” effectively carrying on with its quasi-state ways.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why am I singularly unsurprised at this development?!?

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 17, 2018: 5TH ASSAULT CORPS WILL PARTICIPATE IN UPCOMING BATTLE FOR IDLIB

On August 16, militant groups operating in western Syria declared the villages of Banes, Birnah, al-Ottomania, Hwair al-Eis, Tell Bajir, Judiydah, Zummar and Jizrea in southwestern Aleppo part of a “military zone” and ordered civilians to leave the area within 48 hours.

Additionally, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and the Turkistan Islamic party had sent reinforcements to southwestern Aleppo.

Local sources link these developments to the ongoing preparations of militant groups to fend off a possible advance of the Syrian Arab Army on their areas in western Syria.

Meanwhile, four units of the Russian-backed 5th Assault Corps – the Assad Shield, the Mahardah Forces, the ISIS Hunters and the Ba’ath battalions – were deployed in the northern countryside of Hama. Earlier, at least four convoys of the Tiger Forces, including battle tanks and artillery pieces, arrived in the same area.

SYRIA - PENTAGON PLANTS HIGH ISIS NUMBERS TO JUSTIFY OCCUPATION

The U.S. aim in Syria is still 'regime change'. The Pentagon has made it clear that it wants to stay in the country even after the Islamic State vanished. A little propaganda trick is now used to create a justification for its continuing occupation. The report by the UN Security Council's Sanctions Monitoring Team on ISIS, in parts discussed here, includes a number that smells of bullshit and manipulation

PALMYRA RESIDENTS FEAR RETURNING HOME FOR US FORCES PRESENCE

The Syrian refugees are afraid of returning to the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria’s Homs province as long as the US forces are stationed nearby in at-Tanf as well as some ISIL terrorists in the neighboring desert, a local official said.
"Few people have returned - only 200 families. People are worried, they are afraid of returning to Palmyra, as well as to Sukhnah, because they are close to the US base at al-Tanf. There are US troops there, as well as several ISIL units, which are wandering in the desert," Governor-General of Homs province Talal Barazi said on Thursday.

He added that Syrians would feel secure only once the ISIL is eliminated, and the US servicemen leave al-Tanf.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 16, 2018: MILITANT PROPAGANDA GOES WILD AHEAD OF BATTLE FOR IDLIB

On August 15, ISIS attacked several positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies in the southern part of the al-Taim oil field in the province of Deir Ezzor. According to pro-opposition sources, the following clashes resulted in minor casualties among the both sides but the terrorist group’s members were forced to retreat causing almost no damage to the government’s infrastructure in al-Taim.

In July and August, ISIS units carried several attacks on SAA positions in the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert. According to local sources, these attacks are an attempt to draw the SAA attention from ISIS cells hiding in the desert area at the administrative borders between the provinces of al-Suwayda and Rif Damashq.

The estimated manpower of the ISIS units operating in the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert, and according to some sources in the US zone of responsibility near the At-Tanf garrison, is about 1,000 members.

“Moscow’s Genius Move”: Kurds To Join SAA, Russia And Turkey To Cooperate Ahead Of IMMINENT SYRIAN OFFENSIVE

RusVesna reports that the hitherto US-backed mixed Kurdish-Arab units under the brand of “Syrian Democratic Forces” have decided to put on Syrian Arab Army uniforms and fight terrorist forces in cooperation with Moscow and Damascus.

Sources on the ground have reportedly said that in the cities of Nubbol and Zahra in the Aleppo province, Kurdish militias have fully joined forces with Syrian troops.

Local units of the ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’ have resolved to don Syrian Arab Army uniforms in order to not be singled out by Turkish forces in the impending battle for Idlib and the western part of the Aleppo province.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 15, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY ADVANCES ON REMNANTS ISIS CELLS IN AL-SUWAYDA DESERT

On August 14, the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) released a statement providing a look at their operations in the area of Afrin against the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (TFSA).

According to the statement, Abdul Razzaq al-Bakr, a TFSA field commander, died on August 8 after being wounded in a bomb explosion in the district of Mabata. On August 11, YPG cells set off a motorcycle-bomb on the road to the village of Kafr Jannah in the district of Shera. The bombing reportedly hit a joint patrol of the TAF and the TFSA killing one Turkish soldier and wounding another. “A number” of TFSA members were allegedly killed.

YPG cells have been carrying out attacks on the TAF and the TFSA constantly since the fall of the city of Afrin into Turkish hands on March 18. These attacks show significant gaps in security efforts employed by the TAF and the TFSA in the area.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 14, 2018: SDF SLAMS REPORTS ON NEGOTIATIONS WITH DAMASCUS AS FAKE

On August 13, Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 5 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) near Khmeimim Air Base in the province of Latakia. According to the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria, Maj. Gen. Alexei Tsygankov, the UAVs were launched by militants from the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Over the past month, UAV attacks on Russia’s airbase have turned into an almost everyday occurrence. On August 12, Russian forces intercepted 2 UAVs and on August 11, one. UAV attacks on the airbase also took place on August 10, July 30 and July 21. All of them were repelled.

The UAV attacks from the Idlib de-escalation zone on Russian military facilities have increased as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and other militant groups are seeing them as one of the very few options to deliver damage to Russian forces and to deliver a PR blow to the Russian military presence in the country.

ISRAEL’S STRATEGIC COLLAPSE: How Putin Sandbagged Netanyahu

Resulting from Russia’s declaration that it would be establishing eight militarized outposts along the de facto Syria-Israel border, the UN has been prodded into action, and is re-engaging its own responsibilities to monitor the region. The UN previously was unable to perform, due to pressure from the US, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia chiefly, to pressure the UN not to guard the demilitarized zone.

The result of a lacking UN presence was that the area was more easily used by Israel to provide safe harbor, arms, equipment, and medical care to Al-Qaeda and ISIS groups, under these and several related brands. Russia has been looking for a solution ever since. With the US’s waning influence in the region, and significantly reduced force projection capacity, we entered into a new period.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 13, 2018: TIGER FORCES ARE DEPLOYING IN NORTHERN LATAKIA

Syrian government forces have achieved a series of local successes in the framework of their operation against ISIS cells in the province of al-Suwayda.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) restored control of the administrative border of the province after had cleared about 400km2 in its eastern part and had besieged the remaining ISIS members in the area of Safa.

By Monday, the SAA, the NDF and the SSNP have launched a final push to purge ISIS terrorists in this area.

While the Syrian military is finishing its operation in eastern al-Suwayda, the Tiger Forces, led by General Suheil al-Hassan, have started their redeployment from the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa to the northern part of Hama province.

YOUTUBE IS CENSORING SF’S NEW 1.5-HOUR LONG VIDEO “RUSSIAN MILITARY CAMPAIGN IN SYRIA 2015-2018”

YouTube is censoring SouthFront’s new 1.5-hour long video “Russian Military Campaign in Syria 2015-2018“.

This video is a detailed summary of military and political developments in Syria since the start of the Russian military operation until now. It was released by SouthFront on August 11.

Less than 2 hours after the release, this video was placed behind an age restriction because it allegedly includes “violent or graphic content that appears to be posted in a shocking, sensational, or disrespectful manner”. The age-restriction clearly impacts a possible reach of the video because it does not allow people without YouTube accounts to watch it.

UN PUTS COST OF SYRIAN WAR DESTRUCTION AT NEARLY $400 BILLION

A group of United Nations experts have produced a figure which puts a price tag on seven years of war in Syria in terms of overall destruction to the country: nearly $400 billion.

The UN just concluded a two day meeting of over 50 Syrian and international experts in Lebanon who met under the aegis of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

According to the AFP, the group of economic analysts concluded that the "volume of destruction in physical capital and its sectoral distribution" is estimated at more than $388 billion (334 billion euros).

US Base Reinvigorated as Tensions Increase in Manbij

The Arabic-language al-Manar news channel reported that a military convoy of the US army, consisting of several military vehicles has been sent from Eastern Euphrates to the US military base in the village of al-Sa'eidiyeh in Western Manbij.

Local sources in Manbij reported on Thursday that unknown assailants attacked Manbij Military Council's court in the town and clashed with the authorities inside it.

Meantime, a bomb was detonated near Sheikh Aqil tomb in the Center of Manbij while a group of SDF-affiliated forces were passing, forcing the SDF to put on alert its forces and declare curfew.

They added that a new wave of tensions between the residents and the US-led forces has erupted in the region, noting that the SDF forces detained a number of people in Aqil district after the explosion.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 9, 2018: 418 ISIS MEMBERS KILLED IN SDF OPERATION NEAR IRAQI BORDER

The Syrian General Command has deployed more troops, military equipment and artillery pieces in northern Latakia and northwestern Hama over the past few days. At the same time, sporadic clashes have appeared between militants and government troops in the areas of northern Hama and Latakia. However, no active military actions have been reported.

In eastern al-Suwayda, the SAA reached the area of Suh al-Qasium in the framework of its operation against the remaining ISIS cells in this part of the province. The operation is ongoing.

No Peace In Strengthening Iran Sanctions

President Trump is out of options. So are his main vectors of information, the Israeli Firsters in his cabinet and family. Israel, the U.S. and Saudi Arabia have lost the Syrian War and the ramifications of that are immense.

Because by losing this war the U.S. has been revealed as a paper tiger incapable of imposing its will on a world which is rapidly recoiling from its dominance.

Syria was the first time someone stood up and said, “No more.” Putin’s dramatic intervention in Syria was supported by all the same people in Trump’s crosshairs today: China, Iran and Hezbollah. Eventually, Turkey realized the U.S. could not be trusted, so they are targeted for economic destruction as well.

So, today’s impositions of new sanctions on Iran, the same playbook that Trump used against North Korea, is the only logical step on the path to the U.S. leaving the region.

Yes, you heard me, leaving the region.

Middle East Intelligence Official: Mossad Behind Syrian Rocket Chief Car Bomb

It's been reported a senior Middle East intelligence agency official has blamed Israel's controversial intelligence agency Mossad for the assassination of a top Syrian rocket scientist.

Israel DM Warns Syria Will Rebuild Its Military After War

Speaking on Tuesday, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman accused Syria of planning to rebuild its army after the end of the Syrian War, and predicted that it might not only be as large as the pre-war military, but might even be bigger.

Specifics are very limited in this comment, which seems to just be Lieberman setting the stage for more military confrontations in the future. He accused Syria of being “not satisfied with taking control of all of the Syrian territory.”

Syria hasn’t actually done that yet, with rebels still controlling parts of the north. Yet even if they had, it would not be surprising for the Assad government to take the lesson out of the bloody multi-year war that they need to be prepared for large-scale conflict.

UK: Discrimination Against Christian Refugees

The British government appears recently to have decided that it would like to give the impression that it cares about persecuted Christians. Prime Minister Theresa May said in Parliament on July 18:

"As a Government we stand with persecuted Christians all over the world and will continue to support them."

The British Government even recently appointed its first Special Envoy on Freedom of Religion or Belief with Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, a former minister, filling the post.

Perhaps the UK should not be so quick to preach to others, when it does not appear to be doing much at home to help Syrian Christians, who have been among the most persecuted for their faith since the civil war in Syria began seven years ago:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Saying something, then doing the polar opposite of what was actually said, is pretty routine for the British government.

ISRAEL ‘WELCOMES’ MURDER OF SYRIAN SCIENTIST – BUT DENIES ANY INVOLVEMENT IN ASSASSINATION

Israel’s minister of intelligence says he “welcomes” news that a Syrian scientist was killed by a car bomb, even as Tel Aviv denies any part in the murder. The New York Times reported that Israel’s Mossad was behind the attack.

Intelligence and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz weighed in on allegations that Israeli Mossad agents killed Dr. Aziz Asbar near the northwestern Syrian city of Masyaf, commenting that "assuming that [Asbar] was indeed involved in terrorist activity, I welcome his departure from the world.”

Asbar, the research director at Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center, was believed to be developing a secret weapons manufacturing facility with the help of Iran, which was to be used to manufacture precision-guided missiles in Syria. He was killed on Saturday by an explosive device planted on his car.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 7, 2018: ISIS CELLS IN EASTERN AL-SUWAYDA FACE MILITARY ACTION BY SYRIAN ARMY

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allied local militias have kicked off an advance on ISIS positions in the eastern part of al-Suwayda province. It’s interesting to note that some former units of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which has reconciled with Damascus, are participating in the advance.

The SAA artillery and the Syrian Air Force carried out about 50 strikes on ISIS targets in the areas of al-Waer, Ard al-Karaa, Mazrea al-Hhatib, Sneim al-Ghirz and east of Dabatheh, Rabbet al-Hisn and Tel Razin.

The Syrian media says that ISIS suffered heavy casualties in these strikes, but no photos or videos to confirm these claims were released.

The goal of the ongoing operation is get rid of ISIS cells hiding in the desert. In July, these cells carried a series of sensitive attacks in the government-controlled areas thus triggering the decision to deal with them as soon as possible.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 6, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY PREPARING FOR OPERATION IN NORTHERN LATAKIA

Overnight on August 5, Aziz Asbar, the head of the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), died after an IED had hit his car in the village of Masyaf in the western countryside of Hama. Asbar’s driver was also killed in the attack.

The SSRC is a Syrian government research agency, which is according to the US-Israeli-led bloc is actively involved in the development of missile and even chemical weapons.

The Damascus government has been strictly rejecting accusations of stocking, developing or using chemical weapons since it employed its agreement with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Initially, pro-government sources speculated that Israeli special services may have been behind the attack because, according to some sources, Asbar was involved in the missile program linked to activities of Hezbollah and Iran in the region.

SYRIANS ACCUSE ISRAEL OF ASSASSINATING TOP MISSILE SCIENTIST IN HAMA PROVINCE

One of Syria’s leading pro-government newspapers has said that Israel was behind a bomb blast in Hama province that killed a senior scientist working for the country’s missile program. Aziz Azbar was reportedly a senior research director at the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center, known as CERS. The Damascus-based agency is thought to be at the center of the Syrian government’s formidable chemical weapons program. Last year, the United States Department of the Treasury imposed economic sanctions on nearly 300 CERS employees, after Washington accused them of being directly responsible for the Syrian government’s repeated use of chemical weapons against rebels and civilians. The European Union, as well as the French and British governments, also imposed sanctions on CERS and its staff.

HEAD OF SYRIA RESEARCH CENTRE KILLED IN CAR BOMBING

The head of a Syrian research facility that Western countries say was part of a chemical weapons programme was killed when his car was blown up, the pro-Syrian government newspaper al-Watan said on Sunday.

Aziz Asber was the director of the Syrian Scientific Research Centre in Masyaf, near the city of Hama, which Western governments say was a covert Syrian government installation.

“(Asber) died after an explosion targeted his car in the Hama countryside,” al-Watan said in an online report.

The explosion occurred on Saturday night, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitoring group said. Who or what caused it is not known.

The Masyaf facility has previously been hit by what the Syrian government said were Israeli strikes in July and last year in September.

In April, missile strikes by the United States, Britain and France destroyed a Syrian Scientific Research Centre facility in Damascus, in response to a suspected poison gas attack.

China, Syria: Officials Say the Chinese Military Is Willing to Help the Syrian Army Retake Idlib

Both China's ambassador to Syria as well as its military attache in the country have raised the possibility of Chinese military operations in Syria alongside the Syrian government. Chinese Ambassador Qi Qianjin reportedly stated that the Chinese "military is willing to participate in some way alongside the Syrian army that is fighting the terrorists in Idlib and in any other part of Syria," while military attache Wong Roy Chang reportedly said the Chinese military could participate in an operation to retake rebel-held Idlib if Beijing made the political decision for it to do so.

It is important to stress that neither statement is a confirmation that China is about to send military forces to participate in combat operations in Syria. However, the comments, if true, would mark the closest confirmation we have had of such a possibility.

THE MYSTERY FIXER WHO IS NEGOTIATING AN END TO THE SYRIAN WAR

After seven years of grinding war, the Syrian government has achieved victory. According to current and former international officials and diplomats as well as UN officials, credit or blame for the Syrian government’s recent victories in East Ghouta and then in the south — along with the tacit acceptance these sweeping military successes received — can be placed on one man.

He is Khaled al Ahmad, a Syrian government emissary and businessman who masterminded the Syrian government’s reconciliation strategy. Al Ahmad is the secret diplomat who has exerted exceptional tolls of energy building bridges with the enemies of Damascus. Despite his central role in bringing one of the worst conflicts since World War Two to an end, he remains almost totally unknown in international media and has scarcely been discussed even among expert Syria observers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To have accomplished what he has done, this Khaled al Ahmad must be nothing short of a miracle worker.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – AUGUST 3, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY’S OPERATION IN SOUTHERN SYRIA IN NUMBERS

On August 2, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that warplanes of the Israeli Air Force had bombed several fighters of the ISIS-affiliated Khalid ibn al-Walid Army near the occupied Golan Heights. Seven militants were killed in the strikes according to the Israeli media.

This was the second attack by the IDF on the Khalid ibn al-Walid Army during the last two weeks. On July 26, Israeli warplanes destroyed a rocket launcher allegedly belonging to the group in southwestern Syria.

An official of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) announced that members of the Khalid ibn al-Walid Army are attempting to cross the border from Syria. According to him, the JAF’s 10th Border Guard Battalion clashed with the terrorists in the Yarmouk Valley killing a number of them.

Russia to deploy military police on Golan Heights

Russia will deploy its military police on the Golan Heights frontier between Syria and Israel, its defence ministry said on Thursday, after weeks of mounting volatility in the area.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s sweeping away of rebels in southwestern Syria has worried Israel, which believes it could allow his Iranian backers to entrench their troops close to the frontier.

Underlining the tensions, Israel killed seven militants in an overnight air strike on the Syrian-held part of the Golan Heights, Israeli radio said on Thursday.

UN peacekeepers return to disengagement line between Syria, Israeli-occupied territory

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) has returned to its positions on the line of separation between Syria and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights after leaving it in 2014, a war monitor reported Thursday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the UNDOF vehicles were spotted returning to the crossing between the Syrian southern province of Quneitra and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Thursday.

The UK-based watchdog group said Russian military police and the Syrian forces have been deployed in Quneitra and in the disengagement zone after the entire province of Quneitra returned under the government control.

Lebanese Paper: US Preparing to Withdraw from Syria

The Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper reported that during the process to extradite 8 Lebanese members of the ISIL terrorist group to Beirut, the Americans have sent a letter to the Lebanese army's intelligence department that said they are preparing to take the necessary measures to retreat their forces from Syria.

The report comes as the US has transferred hundreds of ISIL members to Afghanistan. ISIL has claimed responsibility of a majority of the terrorist operations conducted across Afghanistan, including some against the Taliban. Security officials of Russia, Iran, Afghanistan and a number of Central Asian states have voiced deep concerns over the increasing number of ISIL militants transferred from Syria by the US to Afghanistan.>>>

Russia Announces Iran Pullback in Syria, Israel Rejects Plan

Russian Ambassador Alexander Lavrentyev announced on Wednesday that Russia had come to an agreement with Israel on the withdrawal of Iranian forces. The deal will have all Iranian forces at least 85 kilometers from the Golan Heights.

Israel has since denied that this was a deal, and said they consider the pullback “inadequate.” It would be surprising if Israel had taken this deal, as they’d rejected a near identical Russian offer of a 100 kilometer buffer just a week ago.

Israel has demanded Iranian forces be removed wholly from Syria. This includes, by Israel’s reckoning, all Shi’ite forces, which is how they estimate Iran to have vastly more troops in Syria than they really do. Russia has rejected this, saying they can’t force Iran to leave.

Israeli Defense Chief: Syrian Front Will Be More Quiet With Assad Rule Restored

The Syrian government has been restoring its control over the country, with the latest military operation being carried out against jihadists in the south of the Arab Republic.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has stated that he believes that the Syrian front will be more quiet with the restoration of the Assad administration's control.

"From our perspective, the situation is returning to how it was before the civil war, meaning there is a real address, someone responsible, and central rule," Lieberman pointed out.

Turkey Flips to BRICS while Assad Just Flips off Bibi

There is nothing more frustrating in American politics than discussing Israel. Nothing. It is difficult to maintain a balanced view of the situation when many people are ready to lynch you for putting a word wrong in relation to ‘our greatest ally.’

And like many of the real issues underlying the Culture War between the Overly-Woke and The Deplorables, these ab-reactions are meant to stifle debate rather than discuss uncomfortable and inconvenient truths.

I don’t feel like I have many of the answers as to why Israeli officials act the way they do. Sometimes I get feedback from folks who truly want to engage but more often than not what I just described is what happens.

Are We About To See The Final Battle Of Syria?

Will it be the Last Battle? For three years, Idlib has been the dumping ground for all of Syria’s retreating Islamist militias, the final redoubt of every combatant who has chosen to fight on, rather than surrender to the Syrian army and the Russian air force – and to Hezbollah and, to a far smaller degree, the Iranians.

Brigadier general Suheil al-Hassan, the “Tiger” of Syrian military legend and myth – who can quote the poet Mutanabi by heart but prefers to be compared to Erwin Rommel rather than Bernard Montgomery – will surely take his “Tiger Forces” with him for the final reckoning between the Damascus regime and the Salafist-inspired and western-armed Islamists who dared to try, and very definitely failed, to destroy Bashar al-Assad’s rule.

FINAL VICTORY OVER TERROR NEAR

Syrian President to Armed Forces: Final Victory over Terror Near

President Bashar Assad hailed the achievements of Syrian Armed Forces on the battlefield against foreign-backed militant groups, saying final victory over terrorism is close thanks to their sacrifices.
He made the remarks in a speech published by the Jaish al-Sha’ab (People's Army) magazine on Wednesday in commemoration of the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the national Syrian military, presstv reported.

Assad congratulated Syrian soldiers for “moving from one achievement to another and from one victory to another in the face of the systematic terrorism and its regional and international backers”.

Gov't Flag Hoisted across Manbij Ahead of Syrian Army's Imminent Arrival

People in the Northern town of Manbij have hoisted government flags in the town, preparing for the Syrian Army troops' imminent arrival, a media outlet reported on Wednesday.
The Arabic-language al-Watan daily quoted local sources as reporting that civilians in Manbij in Northeastern Aleppo have hoisted the government flags across the town, preparing for a warm welcome ceremony as the army is regaining control over the town following talks between the Kurds and Damascus officials two days ago.

Al-Watan said that civilians have prepared banners to welcome the army at the Western entrance of the town where the army is expected to enter Manbij.

Manbij residents have also repaired and reconstructed police stations in the town and along the Aleppo international highway to Manbij to hand over their control to the army forces, al-Watan further said.

Here's Why The U.S. Will Soon Make A Face-Saving Exit From Syria

The Syrian army is conducting its southern campaign with the pacification of the last two percent of the Qunietra province that remains under the control of the “Islamic State” (ISIS) terrorist group. That will free tens of thousands of troops of the Syrian army and its allies from the burden of fighting in the south of the country and will mark a turning point in the seven years of war imposed on the Levant.

The whole of Syria will be liberated from the territorial control of militias and jihadists. What remains of occupied Syria is under the control of two countries: territories held by the US and Turkey in the north. However, these occupations do not seem tenable, particularly now that the Kurds, in control of 23% of Syria, have decided to respond positively to the Syrian President’s call to engage in dialogue or face war.

This means the US cannot stay for much longer in Syria; it will find a face-saving way to leave very soon.

Russian Jamming Poses a Growing Threat to U.S. Troops in Syria

American troops deployed in Syria are increasingly having to defend themselves against Russian jamming devices—electronic attacks with potentially lethal consequences, according to U.S. military officials and analysts.

Officers who have experienced the jamming—known as electronic warfare—say it’s no less dangerous than conventional attacks with bombs and artillery. But they also say it’s allowing U.S. troops a rare opportunity to experience Russian technology in the battlefield and figure out how to defend against it.

Russian Ambassador Tells Israel: We Can’t Force Iran to Leave Syria

Speaking on Israel’s Channel 10 news, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov told the interviewer that Russia cannot force Iran to withdraw its military from Syria, no matter how many times Israel demands them to.

Israel has been demanding Russian intervention for months, but Iran has ruled out leaving unless Syria tells them to. Russia tried to come up with a compromise where Iranian forces would stay 100 km from the buffer zone, but Israel rejected that as well.

Viktorov told the reporters that Iran’s military presence in Syria “is fully legitimate according to the UN principles and the UN charter.” He added that Russia is “not okay” with any Israeli attacks on Syria, but that it wasn’t up to Russia to prevent them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Israeli government loves the "big lie" technique, both to exaggerate their own claims, and also to terrify their domestic population.

It will be interesting to see what Israel does regarding Syria after this announcement; but I would not believe that backing off their attacks against Syria will happen any time soon.

US-Turkey to Conduct Joint Patrols in Syria, Pentagon Head Mattis Says

The United States and Turkey will start joint military patrols in Syria in a matter of weeks, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis told reporters on Friday.

"I mean, you got to do the training… I think that we’re talking about weeks," Mattis said. "I don’t know how many. Two, four, six, but I don’t think we’re talking months."

Mattis noted there are already Turkish and US patrols on the ground, but they are separate.

"It’s already happening on opposite sides where the two of the patrols go along, and they get to certain points, they wait for the other one to get there," Mattis said. "If somebody gets there first and then they do recognition signals back and forth and they move onto the next one."

Mattis explained all the conditions for establishing joint patrols are being set for them to go forward, and the Turkish and US militaries have put together all the planning while the training equipment has landed at the Incirlik air base in Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, Mattis and Edrogan believe that there is no such thing as Syrian territorial integrity.

LEADER OF AL-QAEDA IN SYRIA CONTINUES TO RECEIVE FREE PASS ON YOU TUBE WHILE AMERICANS WHO EXPOSE SYRIAN WAR ARE CENSORED AND BANNED

The following post reveals that as of July 27, 2018, the Saudi cleric leader of al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda in Syria) Abdullah al-Muhaysini still has his own channel up and running on You Tube. This post is highly important because, not only does it point out that terrorists are being given a free pass by western governments and the Powers That Be in the current age of Internet censorship against western citizens accused of bullying and spreading 'false' news, but it also provides evidence that the leader of al-Qaeda in Syria has been working directly with the White Helmets who are a western funded propaganda construct that has employed terrorists to destroy Syria, terrorists who were recently pulled out of Syria by the Israeli government and are now being repatriated into western countries.

A simple You Tube search provides the evidence that al-Qaeda's leader in Syria is fully operational on You Tube.

Screenshot of currently active You Tube videos of Abdullah al-Muhaysini:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable!

The Madness Gripping Washington

The United States and Israel have been threatening Iran for something like twenty years, using the pretext that it was developing a nuclear weapon initially, but also more recently declaring that Tehran has become a threat to the entire Middle East. Both contentions are essentially lies, concocted by an Israel and Saudi Arabia that would prefer to have Iran removed as a possible impediment to their own ambitions. And they would like the United States to do the removing.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 31, 2018: DAMASCUS IS IN ONE STEP FROM LIBERATING ENTIRE SOUTHERN SYRIA

ISIS members retreated from the town of Shajarah and the villages of As`arah and Ma`rabah east of the Golan Heights under pressure from Syrian government forces. Thus, the terrorist group remained in control of only 3 villages in the area.

According to pro-government sources, there are less than 200 ISIS members hiding in Kuwayyah, Beit Arah and Qusayr. With the liberation of these villages, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) will be able to declare full control of the contact line with the Israeli-held area, and southern Syria in general.

The key problem of the advance in the Yarmouk valley is that an unknown number of ISIS fighters and ISIS-linked individuals are hiding among civilians in the recently liberated areas. Without additional security measures, these persons will be a source of constant threat of terrorist attacks.

Caravan Of Evil Reveals Evidence Of Western/Israeli Intelligence Assets In al-Qaeda, White Helmet Groups

Syrian Forces on the Verge of Capturing Entire Southwest

According to Hezbollah’s media unit, the Syrian government and its allies are on the verge of finishing their southwestern offensive, and will soon have total control over the entire Golan Heights frontier with Israeli-occupied Golan.

The last target in this protracted offensive was Khalid ibn al-Walid, an ISIS affiliate which controlled the Yarmouk Basin. Though all the major ISIS towns have already fallen, reports suggest they still control a few villages in the area.

The southwest, including the Deraa Province and parts of Quinietra, were dominated by rebels for much of the Syrian War, and were the last parts of the country’s southern border to fall back under government control. At this point, the last real rebel strongholds are in the far north, near Turkey.

ISLAMIC STATE DRONE PROGRAM STUDY REVEALS NATO RATLINES

Despite attempts by the US and European media to depict the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in cartoon villain terms, it was always clear to serious analysis that the terrorist organization’s fighters, weapons, supplies and money were entering Syria and the result of extensive outside support.

A look at any map of the Syrian conflict, regardless of its source over the past 7 years shows IS and other militant groups maintaining territory with corridors leading directly to the borders of Syria’s neighbors, particularly NATO-member Turkey and US allies Israel and Jordan.

There have been direct admissions from the US itself that it played a role in IS’ creation. A 2013 leaked US Defense Intelligence Agency memo (.pdf) would explicitly note that the US and its allies sought the creation of what it then called a “Salafist principality” in eastern Syria, precisely where IS would later establish itself.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable: ISIS was a created "frenemy", against which the US government could rail when it wanted to as being the "ultimate villain in the Middle East, while the US government was supporting it with weapons and money.

ISIS Attacks Against Syria Were Ordered By Israel, Fearing SAA Gains

Retired Syrian brigadier General Ali Maqsoud said that there is a direct link between the terrorist attack in the town of Sweida on July 25 and the downing of Syrian aircraft by Israeli missiles.

For Maqsoud, both attacks were caused by the successes of the Syrian Army. As for the attack on the Syrian plane, Israel aimed to protect terrorists and claim the right to the occupied territories of the Golan Heights. Due to the massive terrorist attack, Americans now have ‘reason’ to remain in Syria.

“The United States has established a base in the Al-Tanf [border region of Sweida province] for the training of tens of thousands of terrorists, who were behind the ISIS attack on the 25th. The US now has a pretext for remaining in Syria, meaning they have given the terrorists an advantage in order to stay in Syria,” he said.

MAINSTREAM JOURNALIST TRACKED MISSILE CASINGS USED BY AL-QAEDA AND THEY ALL CAME FROM US BASES

Finally, a journalist for a mainstream UK media outlet is methodically tracking weapons shipment serial numbers and English-language paperwork recovered from al-Qaeda groups in Syria, and he’s literally showing up at arms factories and questioning arms dealers, including officials at the Saudi Embassy in London, asking: why are your weapons in the hands of terrorists?

Veteran Middle East war correspondent Robert Fisk recently published a bombshell report entitled, I traced missile casings in Syria back to their original sellers, so it’s time for the west to reveal who they sell arms to. In it Fisk recalls a bit of detective sleuthing he’s lately been engaged in after stumbling upon a batch of missile casings and shipment paperwork last year hidden in what he describes as “the basement of a bombed-out Islamist base in eastern Aleppo” with the words “Hughes Aircraft Co/Guided Missile Surface Attack” emblazoned on the side of the spent tubes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the world of reporting geopolitics, Robert Fisk has always been an industrial-strength, tell-it-like-it-is guy.

And the reason he has found these western markings on the bombs and bullets he's looking at, is that the west was supporting these terrorists with weapons and money, to attempt to bring down the duly elected government of Syria.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 30, 2018: GOVERNMENT TROOPS LAUNCH FINAL PUSH TO DEFEAT ISIS IN SOUTHERN SYRIA

Militant groups in the province of Idlib have started an active phase of preparations to counter an expected advance of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the area.

On July 29, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra), Jabhat Tahrir Suriya (formerly Ahrar al-Sham), the National Front for Liberation, the Turkistan Islamic Party, Horas al-Din and some other groups created a new operations room to coordinate their military actions against the SAA.

White Helmets coming ‘home’: West & Israel provide ‘exceptional’ rescue strategy for NATO's ghosts

History appears to repeat itself as Israel conducts an “exceptional” rescue of extremist militants and their White Helmet “mannequins” from southern Syria – at the urgent request of NATO member states.

The military alliance’s member states just conducted a novel version of Operation Paperclip in Southern Syria but, instead of resettling Nazi war criminals to develop a weapon’s program in the US, they will resettle Al Qaeda militants and their auxiliaries. Indeed, the latter’s role has been to corroborate alleged tales of chemical weapons use by Syria – to justify the intervention of the US coalition, both by proxy and directly, against a sovereign nation.

Post World War II, the US imported Nazi scientists to prevent them falling into the hands of Soviet forces. Decades later America and its allies are extricating their client extremists, who are operating undercover in Syria, from the threat of discovery by approaching Syrian and Russian forces.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says the White Helmets are terrorists posing as volunteer rescue personnel, and will be killed if they don’t surrender and lay down their arms, Russian media outlets reported Thursday.

Hundreds of members of the group — feted in the West and credited with saving thousands of lives during the Syrian regime’s bombing campaigns — were evacuated out of Syria by the Israeli military last week, with around 50 of them expected to be resettled in Canada.

At the time, Syria’s foreign ministry dubbed the rescue a “criminal operation” intended to destabilize its government.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 27, 2018: ARMY ELIMINATES OVER 600 ISIS MEMBERS IN SOUTHERN SYRIA

ISIS is on the verge of full collapse in southern Syria. Over the past few days, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) led by the 4th Armoured Division and the Tiger Forces, have liberated over 30 villages and settlements from the terrorist group in the area west of Daraa city.

Government troops have liberated the towns of Saham al-Jawlan, Tasil, Hayt and Adwan, the villages of al-Jumou and Maziraa as well as multiple nearby points. Then, they also advanced in the direction of al-Shajara, which is one of the few remaining ISIS strong points.

ISIS “Victories” Are Western “Victories”

So, when Israel shot down a Syrian warplane on 24 July, as the plane was attacking ISIS near the occupied Golan Heights1, it was a victory not only for ISIS, but for the West and its allies who seek regime change. ISIS is good for Regime Change.

Separately, but related, ISIS and the West also scored a “victory” in the province of Sweida, Syria, on 25 July, 2018. What did the “victory” look like?” ISIS terrorists emerged from areas near the illegal U.S military base at Al-Tanf. They murdered about 240 Syrians, and wounded about 170.

Israel’s ‘Jewish nation-state’ law a prelude to annexation

When the Netanyahu government passed a Basic Law this week enshrining a superior set of rights for Israel's Jewish citizens, it ushered in a new era of open apartheid. To appreciate the significance of the new nation-state law, one must understand why the bill split Israel's nationalist camp, and why demographic factors forced it to the fore. After the final vote, ruling Likud lawmaker Avi Dichter, who sponsored the bill's first iteration, explained its true purpose. "We are enshrining this important bill into a law today to prevent even the slightest thought, let alone attempt, to transform Israel to a country of all its citizens," Dichter gloated after the law passed this week ... Of course, ever since the state was founded in 1948, Israel has discriminated against its non-Jewish Palestinian citizens in a myriad of ways.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 26, 2018: SYRIAN ARMY REPELS LARGE-SCALE ISIS ATTACK IN AL-SUWAYDA

On July 25, ISIS carried out a large-scale attack on positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the local National Defense Forces (NDF) in the province of al-Suwayda. ISIS employed at least six suicide bombers in the city of al-Suwayda and temporarily captured the villages of Shbeiki, Shureihi, Rami and Duma. The SAA and the NDF killed two suicide bombers, captured one and retook the villages after a few hours of clashes. In these clashes, at least 15 ISIS members were killed.

However, the ISIS attack resulted in multiple civilian casualties. According to local sources, up to 150 civilians were killed and an unknown number was injured.

The ISIS attack in al-Suwayda shows that a large-scale operation against ISIS cells still operating in desert areas in central Syria is something urgently needed to keep security in the formally liberated areas.

Syria - For The Third Time Israel Falsely Claims Iran Pull-Back Deal With Russia

A typical Israeli propaganda scheme is to falsely claim that an agreement with some entity has been made and to then push that entity to stick to a "deal" it never agreed to. Israel dislikes any 'Iranian presence' in Syria. It tries to press on Russia to push Iran out of Syria by claiming that Russia offered or made such a deal.

Last fall a campaign in Israeli media claimed that Russia had agreed to push Iran away from the border with Israel. Russia denied that anything like that happened. Iranian forces in Syria are legitimately there. In late May a similar campaign repeated that scheme. It claimed that the Russian Foreign Minister had agreed to move Iran out, when in fact he had called on U.S. forces to leave Syria.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – JULY 25, 2018: ISRAEL SHOOTS DOWN SYRIAN WARPLANE BOMBING ISIS TERRORISTS

On July 24, the Syrian military faced the expected Israeli military actions resulting from Tel Aviv’s displeasure with the fact that its long-time supported militant-held buffer zone east of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights is crumbling.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) employed two Patirot air defense missiles to shoot down a Syrian Su-22 warplane involved in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) operation against ISIS in the area. One pilot, Colonel Umran Mare, died in the incident.

Israel claimed that the warplane entered about 1 mile into its airspace, meaning the occupied Golans, and was shot down after a few warnings. The Syrian side said that this once again shows Israeli support for terrorist groups operating in Syria.

Israel Downs Syrian Jet Targeting Israeli-Backed Rebels in the Golan Heights

However, the Syrian government has strongly contested that assessment, stating that the jet had in fact been attacking jihadist groups along the border on the edge of the Yarmouk Valley and had never left Syrian airspace when it was shot down. Syrian state news agency SANA asserted that Israel’s attack on the jet “confirms its support for the armed terrorist groups” currently being targeted by the Syrian military as part of its successful offensive to retake southern Syria from rebel groups.

If Israel did shoot the plane down in Syrian airspace, it certainly would not be the first time Israel has intervened in the region in order to protect extremist Islamist rebel groups that have controlled the Syrian side of the border for the past several years. Indeed, Israel is largely responsible for the continued existence of these groups, having cultivated their presence in the area, as a so-called “buffer zone” against Syrian-allied Iranian and Lebanese forces, under the orders of former Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.

Furthermore, Israel has been shown to have supplied these groups with food and weapons and has bused injured rebels into Israel for medical treatment before sending them back to the Syrian border. In some cases, Israel even financed the groups entirely — as is the case with the rebel group Fursan al-Golan (Knights of the Golan), which has received approximately $60,000 per year from the Israeli government since 2013.

UK Favours Extremism Over Democracy in Syria

By propping up Turkey's Afrin operation, the British government has once again supported Islamist-backed military conquest over more liberal forces.

How does a British government respond when an allied state invades another territory with the backing of jihadists, overthrows a democratic experiment and consolidates an occupation? Judging by what Turkey is doing in the Afrin district of northern Syria, the answer is: by supporting it.

Britain, far from helping to defeat terrorism in Syria, is once again aiding it.

As Britain arms Turkey, there is a real risk that such military equipment can end up in the hands of jihadists. Yet the British government defines Turkey as a priority market for promoting arms sales that have been worth more than £200 million ($265m) since 2016, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, grenades, small arms and ammunition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congratulations to Prime Minister May to have become the UK's own Merchant Death, this time with Turkey as the primary recipient of the UK's military weaponry.

That you even believed, for one second, that Erdogan, whose meglomania and paranoia is growing by the day, is a force with whom you could reason, for economic gain, I would politely suggest that you think again; you do not know where the weapons you have sold the man will actually wind up, and against whom they will be used.

Or maybe, you didn't give a damn when you sold him those weapons.

Israel Evacuated Alleged Mossad-Linked Rebel Commanders During “Humanitarian” White Helmet Rescue

Given that Israel had spent over $60,000 a year supporting Syrian rebel group Fursan al-Golan financially, it would make sense for Tel Aviv not only to develop and maintain ties with their commanders, but to rescue those commanders as the Syrian government continues its advance.

Over the weekend, and as MintPress predicted last Tuesday, the controversial Western government-funded “humanitarian” group, the Syrian Civil Defense — popularly known as the White Helmets — were evacuated from southern Syria as the Syrian government continues to gain ground in its offensive throughout the country’s southwest. However, sources from within the Syrian opposition have revealed that the White Helmets were not the only ones evacuated from Syrian territory, as four top “rebel” commanders were also among the evacuees, undermining the heavily promoted narrative that the evacuation was purely “humanitarian” in nature.

Israel Rejects Russian Plan To Keep Iranian Forces 100km From Golan Border

Israel has rejected a Russian proposal to keep Iranian forces in Syria at least 100 kilometers from the Syrian-Israeli recognized ceasefire line along the Golan Heights, Reuters reports, while Israeli leadership has further threatened to hold Assad responsible "for any Iranian aggression".

According to the breaking report, which cites an unnamed Israeli official, the issue came up during a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a visiting Russian delegation led by Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov:

The official said that Netanyahu told Lavrov "we will not allow the Iranians to establish themselves even 100 kilometres from the border."

Israel shoots down Syrian fighter jet over Golan Heights

Syrian state media said the fighter jet was targeted in Syrian airspace while conducting raids against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and other fighters in southern Syria.

"The Israeli enemy confirms its support for the armed terrorist groups and targets one of our warplanes, which was striking their groups in the area of Saida, on the edge of the Yarmouk Valley in Syrian airspace," Syrian news agency SANA quoted a military source as saying.

The incident comes during a Russia-backed Syrian offensive to retake parts of southern Syria the Bashar al-Assad government lost to rebels during the civil war that started in 2011.

‘They may be jihadists but they’re our jihadists’: White Helmets' UK resettlement policy attacked

The UK is to offer asylum to members of western-backed White Helmets group, that operates in Jihadists-held areas in Syria. The move has prompted dire warnings about who exactly Britain might be admitting.

Some 98 White Helmets members were rescued by the Israel Defense Forces on Saturday night, as part of an evacuation mission that saw a total of 422 people collected from Syria and transferred across Northern Israel and into Jordan at three points, the Guardian reports.

The paper claims that the UK is prepared to offer asylum to up to 500 White Helmets members or relatives of the group, officially known as the Syria Civil Defence. The proposed resettlement of members of the group has divided opinion.
