Why Are These Professional War Peddlers Still Around?

Pundits like Max Boot and Bill Kristol got everything after 9/11 wrong but are still considered "experts."? -- One thing that every late-stage ruling class has in common is a high tolerance for mediocrity. Standards decline, the edges fray, but nobody in charge seems to notice. They’re happy in their sinecures and getting richer. In a culture like this, there’s no penalty for being wrong. The talentless prosper, rising inexorably toward positions of greater power, and breaking things along the way. It happened to the Ottomans. Max Boot is living proof that it’s happening in America.

Elliott Abrams has supported death squads and genocide in Latin America but can't handle being asked about it.

The Trump administration has been hungrily eyeing Venezuela, reviving the U.S.'s old habit of overthrowing Latin American governments in countries with valuable natural resources. To help with this, Trump has named Elliott Abrams, a man with extensive experience in subverting democracy and enabling mass murder in Latin America, as Special Envoy to Venezuela.

A year ago, his appearance in front of the House Foreign Affairs committee might have been an easy affair, but on Wednesday, Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar wanted to know if Congress could expect even more atrocities from him this time around:

Omar: Mr. Abrams, you pleaded guilty to two counts of withholding information from Congress regarding your involvement in the Iran-Contra affair, for which you were later pardoned by President George H.W. Bush. I fail to understand why members of this committee or the American people should find any testimony that you give today to be truthful.

Ilhan Omar takes on the establishment

Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar has exposed a long-held open secret about the massive influence of the Israel lobby group AIPAC on US lawmakers.

In recent days, not only has she been scorned, attacked and smeared as an anti-Semite by Republicans and top members of her own Democratic Party, but elected leaders have remained conspicuously silent about AIPAC, thus vindicating her comments.

Meanwhile, the congresswoman continued on Wednesday to demonstrate her true antiwar principles when she questioned Elliott Abrams, the far right-wing Washington official tasked with overseeing the US regime change operation in Venezuela.

During a congressional hearing, Omar asked Abrams to account for his role in war crimes and the backing of death squads and genocides in Central America in the 1980s:

Israel prevents Palestinians from documenting Hebron settler crimes

The Israeli army has prevented Palestinian activists from documenting Israeli settlers’ crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.

This came after a group of Palestinian activists called Youth Against Settlement earlier this week launched a campaign to document settler violations in Hebron after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expelled the TIPH UN monitoring force that has documented Israeli crimes for 22 years, Quds Press reported yesterday.

In a statement, the activists said that settlers had already attacked them, despite the fact that they had been operating for only three days. The activists have already documented numerous violations against Hebron’s Palestinians, including attacks on Palestinian primary school pupils.

Hundreds of Saudi police officers trained in Britain 'aiding regime to commit torture'

Hundreds of Saudi police officers were trained in Britain last year, despite claims the skills they acquire could help the regime commit torture, The Sunday Telegraph can disclose.

The College of Policing, which sets the standards for UK police forces, has increased its work with a desert kingdom that faces global condemnation for alleged state-sponsored brutality.

The Telegraph investigation has found 268 Saudi police officers attended British training sessions between January and October last year. The figure dwarfs the number sent by other countries at the same time and comes as the regime faces accusations it arrested and tortured children, including some who were sentenced to death, according to a human rights charity.

Hands off ‘our hemisphere’ or Venezuela pays the price: US Senator warns Russia

This is pathetic. Without Venezuela and their gold the district of criminals is finished!

The US staked a claim on half the world, as Senate Armed Services Committee chair Jim Inhofe said Washington might have to intervene in Venezuela if Russia dares set up a military base not just there, but “in our hemisphere.”
“I think that it could happen,” Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) told a group of reporters on Tuesday. “You’ve got a guy down there that is killing everybody. You could have him put together a base that Russia would have on our hemisphere. And if those things happen, it may be to the point where we’ll have to intervene with troops and respond.”

New legal bombshells explode on two Navy SEAL war crimes cases

Chief Special Warfare Operator Edward “Eddie” Gallagher not only stabbed to death a teenage wounded Islamic State prisoner of war during a 2017 deployment to Iraq, according to an officer in his chain of command, but the SEAL also called in “false target coordinates to engage a mosque," tried to push his platoon into pointless and potentially catastrophic firefights with insurgents and became so mentally unstable that he should’ve been relieved from duty but wasn’t.

Those allegations are contained in a proffer from the officer sent to military officials on Wednesday seeking immunity from prosecution in the sprawling war crimes case roiling California-based SEAL Team 7.

Proffers are legal documents that outline what potential witnesses will say on the stand in a court-martial trial in exchange for immunity from prosecution for crimes they also might’ve committed.

Why is Guantánamo seeking a wheelchair-accessible three-cell compound? Contingencies.

The Guantánamo Bay prison is shopping for a new three-cell, handicapped accessible compound — complete with a 115-foot dog run and guard house that can tap into the Pentagon’s secret internet network. Why?

“We must prepare for multiple contingencies, and modular buildings can be adapted and configured to provide us the flexibility needed to adapt to numerous circumstances,” prison spokesman Navy Cmdr. Adam Bashaw said Friday. He declined to answer specifically whether the proposed new compound was meant for the war court; the prison’s most clandestine lock-up for former CIA prisoners, Camp 7; or for a site called Camp Echo where captives meet their lawyers.

Echo has what Pentagon officials describe as “legacy issues,” meaning they have in the past been wired with listening devices and cameras that, defense attorneys say, allows for eavesdropping that violates attorney-client confidentiality.

Afghanistan’s Guantanamo

What happened to prisoners at Bagram, 'Afghanistan’s Guantanamo'?
Some were deported, others feel safer in Afghan jail than home and little is known about a US-accused Egyptian prisoner.

Before there was Guantanamo, there was Bagram, a US detention site near its giant airbase in Afghanistan, which came to be synonymous with torture and prisoner abuse.

But when the US relinquished control of the prison, now called Parwan Detention Facility, to Afghan security forces in December 2014, Washington renounced responsibility for the men once held there.

The handful of prisoners left behind became the Afghans' problem>>>
***

I worry that nearly two decades after 9/11, the US military continues to compromise its obligations under the Geneva Conventions to treat detainees humanely for the sake of expediency - and perhaps because they think no one is paying attention to these forgotten men.

Pussy John Bolton and His Codpiece Mustache: Examining the Freak Show

American government has become a collection of sordid and dangerous clowns. It was not always thus. Until Bush II, those governing were never lunatics. Eisenhower, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Obama, Clinton had their defects, were sometimes corrupt, and could be disagreed with on many grounds. They weren’t crazy. Today’s administration would seem unwholesome in a New York bus station at three in the morning. They are not normal American politicians.

In particular they seem to be pushing for war with Iran, China, Russia, and Venezuela. And–this is important–their behavior is not a matter of liberals catfighting with conservatives. All former presidents carefully avoided war with the Soviet Union, which carefully avoided war with America.

IS THIS THE MOST BLATANT US COUP EVER?

The Venezuela coup currently being orchestrated by the US is so utterly blatant, even by American standards, that large numbers of people are seeing right through it. This is not a black-and-white issue. Yes, extreme socialism can lead to instability and disaster; yes, Maduro is not the greatest leader; and yes, the people of Venezuela are suffering under massive hyperinflation. However, by far and away the largest factor affecting Venezuela now is not Maduro or socialism by rather US foreign intervention.

THE U.S. GOVERNMENT’S LOVE OF FOREIGN DICTATORSHIPS

Lest anyone be tempted to believe that President Trump and other U.S. interventionists are intervening in Venezuela because of some purported concern for the Venezuelan people, let’s examine just a few examples that will bring a dose of reality to the situation. This latest intervention is nothing more than another interventionist power play, one intended to replace one dictatorial regime with another.

Egypt comes to mind. It is ruled by one of the most brutal and tyrannical military dictatorships in the world. The U.S. government loves it, supports it, and partners with it. There is no concern for the Egyptian citizenry, who have to suffer under this brutal tyranny and oppression.

Saudi Arabia also comes to mind. It too is a brutal and tyrannical dictatorship, also a murderous one. The U.S. government loves it too, supports it, and partners with it. There is no concern for Saudi citizens who have to suffer under this brutal tyranny and oppression.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is never the people of a country the US regime changes who matter; it is always about the money and the resources.

Do you think for one moment, that the US is concerned about the people of Venezuela, rather than its proven oil reserves?!?

Of course, not!!

REPORT: US INTERROGATORS WORKING AT UAE PRISONS

US interrogators are present in UAE prisons in Yemen, the Daily Beast has revealed today, providing shocking evidence that the American military is a witness to the torture of Yemenis.

In a series of interviews, two former detainees have testified to being interrogated by men with American accents, who looked on as they were beaten and electrocuted.

“They would strip me naked, they would beat me very harshly and slowly you start to understand the dynamics in the room. These are the two people, one of them is overseeing the whole interrogation and the other is doing the questioning and ordering the torture,” a Yemeni man identified only as Salvatore said, suggesting that the US was more that an unwilling observer.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under Gina Haspel's tutelage and leadership of the USA's CIA, it appears that US-sanctioned torture, and US participation in torture, is still alive and kicking (sometimes, literally), and well, at prisons around the world.

And forgive me, but wasn't this the same woman who pledged to the American Congress, and to the American people, that torture would not be used, under her watch as head of the CIA?!?

UNDER INTERROGATION, TORTURE QUEEN GINA HASPEL PROMISES TO STOP TORTURING
While Trump’s C.I.A. nominee pledged not to re-start the agency’s torture program, no amount of brutal questioning could get her to say the practice was immoral.

Of course, in retrospect, looking at the lady's dubious, and vilely dripping track record, before landing the "top dog" job at the CIA, it didn't take much intelligence to realize that this was simply another pack of lies she told, just to get that job.

Having chosen this woman as the head of the CIA, it is painfully clear that President Trump doesn't care at all about how things are done in this government; just that the US maintains its economic and weapons hegemony over all the other countries on earth, no matter what that might entail, including the use torture.

What he is pathologically unable to see, is that this vision is rapidly being disrupted by countries choosing not to use the dollar at all in their transactions with other countries, such as Iran and China, and working with local currencies only.

It is deeply disconcerting to me, that President Trump's two BFFs in the Middle East, are the Monster of Yemen, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince bin Salman, and Israel's Butcher of Gaza, Prime Minister Netanyahu.

However, I think I know why this has happened.

Both men have the supreme power over life and death in their respective countries, and can order hits on alleged enemies just as easily as you or I might order breakfast at a restaurant, and neither country actually has a legitimate Constitution which could, potentially, restrain them from putting other people in harm's way; in some ways, President Trump is a little jealous because of that.

And our weaponry?!? China and Russia are way ahead of the US in terms of working war weaponry that is both cost-effective, and elegantly designed, with which the US military cannot not even begin to compete at the moment.

“It Can’t be Fixed:” Senior ICC Judge Slam John Bolton, Quits in Protest of US, Turkish Meddling

A senior judge at the United Nations’ International Court in The Hague has resigned in protest of “shocking” interference from the Trump administration into a preliminary war-crimes investigation into U.S. troops.

The judge, Christoph Flügge, who hails from Germany, slammed National Security Advisor John Bolton over his response last year to a preliminary investigation into American soldiers accused of torturing people in Afghanistan. That investigation ultimately found “a reasonable basis to believe that war crimes and crimes against humanity” were committed by U.S. forces, MintPress News reported.

“The United States will use any means necessary to protect our citizens and those of our allies from unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court,” Bolton said in September.

He also called for sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) and warned the body against pursuing any investigations into “Israel or other U.S. allies.”

Seven SEALs granted immunity in Iraq war crimes prosecutions

New details in the case against a Navy SEAL charged with multiple war crimes emerged Friday during a marathon motion hearing at Naval Base San Diego.

The hearing revealed that seven Navy SEALs have been granted immunity to testify for the prosecution during the upcoming trial of Edward R. Gallagher, a chief special warfare operator alleged to have murdered a wounded teenage ISIS combatant by stabbing him in the neck.

The trial phase is scheduled for Feb. 19. Prosecutors expect to call the seven SEALs and up to 13 additional witnesses of the May 2017 incident in Mosul, Iraq.

Defense attorneys asked the judge, Navy Capt. Aaron Rugh, to suppress some aspects of those witnesses’ expected testimony, particularly the numbers of people Gallagher allegedly bragged about killing.

The New Congress Can End Wars and Constrain the ‘Deep State.’ Will It?

The U.S. Congress has power over two very important things: money and information.

It can, in theory and practice, end a war by refusing to fund it. It can (and has!) compelled the leading architects of American foreign policy – CIA directors, national security advisors, secretaries of defense – to answer for their uses and abuses of executive power publicly and under oath.

As anyone who has served in it will tell you, Congress has never experienced a “golden age” of dispassionate bipartisanship or attachment to high principle. Yet, its recent failures seem to reflect dangerous signs of decay: the rubber-stamping of a new CIA director implicated in the worst excesses of the agency’s torture program; the inability to even moderately question wars that have comfortably outlasted Vietnam; and almost total indifference to arms deals struck by the White House.

IDF chief turned PM candidate touts body count & bombing Gaza into ‘stone age’ in campaign ad

Parts of Gaza were returned to the stone ages,” one clip boasts over footage of the bombed-out shells of Palestinian buildings. As chief of general staff of the Israeli Defense Forces, Gantz led the offensive that bombarded Gaza for 51 days, killing – as the ad boasts – “1,364 terrorists” and bringing “3.5 years of quiet.”

The second ad in the series shows a running tally of deaths over scenes of Palestinian funerals, and a third shows the targeted assassination of a Hamas leader whose car explodes in a ball of flame.

Haaretz notes that even the official Israeli military figures counts less than half of the Palestinian casualties as militants – meaning Gantz included close to 500 civilian casualties in his “terrorist” tally.

Propaganda of omission: Britain’s role in Rohingya genocide absent from UK reports

In recent years, tens of thousands of ethnic Rohingya have been killed by the Burmese military. The ethnic cleansing made international headlines. But Britain’s role is conspicuously absent from UK mainstream reporting.

The media had, in previous years, reported that the UK trains the Burmese (aka Myanmarese) military, yet the media have not only failed to put two and two together and explore Britain’s role in the recent atrocities, but as the atrocities increased, coverage of British involvement disappeared.

The plight of the Rohingya people is a tragic remnant of colonialism. Prior to colonization and the imposition by Western governments of national boundaries on subjugated peoples, the Rohingya lived in what is now Bangladesh and Burma. When both countries achieved independence (Burma from Britain and Bangladesh from Pakistan), the Rohingya found themselves trapped behind two national borders.

Make No Mistake: ISIS Needs the U.S. to Survive

“We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency,” the president wrote. He later expanded on that sentiment in a video message, posted on Twitter. “Our boys, our young men and women, are coming home now,” Trump noted. “We won.”

But a recent attack on U.S. forces in Syria, carried out by a suicide bomber which ISIS claimed was operating on its behalf, has led to an outpouring of criticism of Trump’s precipitous decision. “ISIS has claimed credit for killing American troops in Syria today,” Senator Marco Rubio tweeted in the aftermath of the attack. “If true, it is a tragic reminder that ISIS not been defeated and is transforming into a dangerous insurgency. This is no time to retreat from the fight against ISIS. Will only embolden & strengthen them.”

Israel killing of Palestine children in Gaza protests amounts to ‘war crimes’

Israeli forces have killed Palestinian children during protests in the occupied Gaza Strip in “conduct amounting to war crimes”, according to a report submitted to a United Nations inquiry by Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCIP) and the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law.

The 57-page report was given to investigators working as part of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the 2018 protests in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), established during a special session of the UN Human Rights Council in May 2018.

According to a statement released Tuesday, the DCIP-CUNY report “provides background and context to mass protests in Gaza, highlights Israeli forces’ unlawful killing of Palestinian child protesters, and details serious violations of international law by Israeli forces”.

Why Israel’s Airstrikes in Syria Are a Sign of Weakness, Not Strength

I will proceed from what seems to be an established fact (SANA confirmed) that on the night of January 11th Israel hit one depot at Damascus international airport. I.e., material damage. 12 projectiles were fired in total. Syrian air defences worked, and by all accounts they were as effective as they were in the previous Israeli bombing run (80% accuracy approx.).

Even if Israel had hit two warehouses or a local farm in addition, then it changes absolutely nothing. What the Syrian Army lost can be replaced with little risk; Iran has seemingly supplied the Syrian Army very well and continues to do so at will.

Pompeo Touts US Goodness and Threatens More of It

Mideast Fact Meets Fiction: Mike Pompeo Touts US Goodness and Threatens More of It
Pompeo’s speech seems to have been a not-so-subtle means of putting the entire Mideast region and world on notice that the U.S. is poised to initiate a new era of military intervention in the Middle East in order to “liberate” nations that continue to resist U.S. influence and regional hegemony.

During a speech given Thursday at Cairo’s American University, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered remarks that some analysts have likened to a mix of evangelism and historical revisionism regarding the U.S.’ historical role in Middle Eastern and Northern African affairs.

Pompeo began his speech by stating:

"It’s the truth, lower-case ‘t’, that I’m here to talk about today. It is a truth that isn’t often spoken in this part of the world, but because I’m a military man by training, I’ll be very blunt and direct today: America is a force for good in the Middle East.”

Prior to his speech, at an earlier press conference, Pompeo made a similarly jarring characterization of U.S. involvement in the Middle East, stating:

America has always been a liberating force, not an occupying power, in the Middle East. We’ve never dreamed of domination....”

If Trump Isn’t Planning to Draw Down U.S. Intervention in Somalia, He Should Be

The United States has maintained some degree of military presence inside Somalia for much of the last three decades, but a pattern of escalation that began late in former President Barack Obama's second term has markedly accelerated in the two years since President Donald Trump took office.

Airstrikes are on the rise; hundreds of U.S. boots are on the ground; and Trump's March 2017 decision to designate portions of Somalia as "areas of active hostility" means military operations can proceed with less oversight and greater tolerance for civilian casualties.

FBI-CIA Collaboration Reveals Blatant Illegitimacy of Guantánamo Trials

Earlier last month, lawyers for Moath Hamza Ahmed al-Alwi, a Yemeni citizen who’s been detained in Guantánamo since January 16, 2002, petitioned the Supreme Court to review his case. His legal team argues that the US government lacks the authority to detain al-Alwi under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force and that indefinite detention is illegal. Previously, the district and circuit courts denied al-Alwi’s habeas petition, which is why his lawyers are going to the Supreme Court. Al-Alwi’s case is a reminder of Guantánamo’s reality: The military commissions system is a kangaroo court designed to cover-up CIA torture while dozens of men remain indefinitely detained, and it’s likely that new prisoners could be transferred to Guantánamo.

Yemen and the War Powers Act

There are two things you should never let your children see being made: sausage and policy. The House and Senate War Powers Resolutions were complicated to begin with, so most journalists and politicians were not able to explain half of it.

For the wonkiest of wonks, here is some information about the two separate Resolutions invoking the War Powers Act to end U.S. support for the now widely reported Saudi-led war.

What’s driving the debate and vote for US involvement in this four-year-old war, is the horrific human toll it’s taking. The United Nations called the war in Yemen the worst humanitarian crisis in recent history. New estimates show more than 60,000 people have been killed in the Yemen war in past two years, according to the UK-based independent research group Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED).

Gaza 4 Jan – Press Release — On Friday evening, 04 January 2019, Israeli forces wounded 46 Civilians, including 7 Children, 4 Journalists and 6 Paramedics, in an excessive use of force against the peaceful demonstrators in the eastern Gaza Strip though the demonstrations have scaled down for the tenth week consecutively and despite absence of most means usually used during the demonstrations since the beginning of the Return and Breaking the Siege March 9 months ago.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These...are war crimes, and there is no other way to say this, than to call it what it is.

Human Rights: Time for US to Walk the Talk

The Trump administration's record of human rights violations is poor and the State Department has just announced that it won’t cooperate with United Nations investigators regarding their complaints about such issues in the US.

Israel vows to 'worsen' conditions for Palestinian prisoners

Israel's Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has announced plans to "worsen" conditions for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including rationing water supplies and reducing the number of family visits.

The planned moves, which are expected to come into force in the coming weeks after being approved by the Israeli cabinet, were sharply criticised by Palestinian leaders and activists who described as them as another escalation of human rights violations by Israel.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Erdan said the plan will also see jails removing cooking rights and limiting prisoners' access to television as well as blocking funds to the Palestinian Authority.

The minister said that family visits had already been halted for prisoners affiliated with the Palestinian movement Hamas.

Afghan strike forces overseen by the CIA are operating with little care for preventing civilian casualties, a lengthy New York Times report details Monday, and their brutality has fostered local populations' sympathy for the Taliban.

The CIA-managed teams work "unconstrained by battlefield rules designed to protect civilians, conducting night raids, torture and killings with near impunity," the Times reports, citing Afghan and American officials. "Those abuses are actively pushing people toward the Taliban, the officials say," and as the U.S. military footprint in the country has declined from its 2011 peak of about 100,000, these "strike forces are increasingly the way that a large number of rural Afghans experience the American presence." Unconfirmed reports suggest some raids may even include American operatives.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to read this with absolute disgust, contempt, and a really nasty feeling in one's gut, that were war crimes were a competitive sport, the US would be close to winning "the gold", as the country which has committed so many war crimes that it has lost count..if count was ever kept.

And I have to speculate; is this behaviour on the part of the CIA-backed troops actually intended and engineered to make this 18 year old war run longer, so that the various "Alphabet Soup" agencies, which make millions running the poppy trade, creating very strong, cheap, heroin, for "off-shelf operations", won't lose their source of income?!?

Were I a betting woman, I would not bet against it. And no, the photos below haven't been photoshopped:

Former Blackwater guard convicted for 2007 massacre of civilians in Baghdad

A former security guard for the US firm Blackwater has been found guilty of murder for his role in a notorious massacre of unarmed civilians in downtown Baghdad in 2007.

Nicholas Slatten, 35, was convicted of first-degree murder by a federal jury in Washington on Wednesday after five days of deliberations.

Slatten was convicted of killing Ahmed Haithem Ahmed Al Rubia’y, 19, an aspiring doctor who was one of more than a dozen civilians killed by Blackwater guards in Baghdad’s Nisour square on 16 September 2007.

While escorting a diplomatic convoy, Blackwater guards opened fire in the bustling square with sniper rifles, machine guns and grenade launchers – allegedly without provocation – leaving at least 14 civilians dead and at least 18 wounded. The Iraqi government says the toll was higher.

Trump Is Helping the Saudis Starve Yemen

In The Imperial Presidency, the historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. warned that the habit of “indiscriminate global intervention, far from strengthening American security, seemed rather to weaken it by involving the United States in remote, costly and mysterious wars, fought in ways that shamed the nation before the world and, even when thus fought, demonstrating only the inability of the most powerful nation on earth to subdue bands of guerrillas in black pajamas. When the grandiose policy did not promote national security and could not succeed in its own terms, would it not be better to pursue policies that did not deform and disable the Constitution?”

These many years later, America is complicit in a mysterious war in Yemen that is waged by Saudi Arabia in ways that shame both of our allied nations. These famine-ravaged youngsters are what that war looks like. As Nicholas Kristof aptly put it, “Your tax dollars help starve children.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am getting just a little sick to my stomach, reading that last paragraph; I did not know (but am not at all surprised) that President Trump had a number of business deals with the Saudis before he came into office.

Mr. President, as long as I am breathing, I am compelled, as a Christian pacifist activist who never commends violence, to call you out on the US military assisting the Saudi Government in war crimes. And I am about to post some images the presstitutes in corporate media don't dare (warning: very graphic), and not a one of them has been photoshopped or altered in any way.

The Saudis are slaughtering innocent children, women, and the medically infirm.

Images:
Yemeni children shot and killed or maimed for life by Saudi air raids

Yemen ports have been successfully blockaded by Saudi and American troops, so no desperately needed food can reach those now dying of malnutrition
Images: Yemeni children dying from malnutrition, because Saudi/US forces have blockaded Yemeni harbors, so food cannot get in.

Cholera (possibly weaponised) rages, unchecked in Yemen, as the water infrastructure has been successfully destroyed by the Saudi military.
Images: Yemeni children dying from cholera (possibly weaponized), as the Saudis have destroyed all the water infrastructure in Yemen.

Mr. President; I must ask this question: I know US weapons manufacturers are selling American bombs to the Saudis, and making incredible profits from this, but at what moral cost to this nation?!?

I was hoping in 2016 that the next President this country elected, would not sign off on more war crimes, as did your predecessors Bush and Obama, starting with Afghanistan; Iraq; Libya; Yemen; and Syria, did; it very much pains me to say it, but sir, in your haste to make sure American weapons manufacturers could profit brilliantly from wars in places like Yemen, you have placed an indelible, moral crimson stain over this entire country's future which can never be cleansed.

And as you are caterwauling over your "great success" in having American ambassadors push their host countries into "buying American" when it comes to weaponry, I hope you can sleep without seeing those images of the dead, the dying, and the maimed for life, which I have attached above; because Mr. President, I cannot sleep because of this, nor can many of the good moral people who elected you, understanding very clearly, that these weapons are causing the deaths of so many innocents.

And I have a companion piece I would like to share:

Saudis leave American fingerprints on Yemen carnage.

Did Defense Secretary James Mattis Commit War Crimes in Iraq?

Retired Gen. James Mattis earned the nickname “Mad Dog” for leading U.S. Marines into battle in Fallujah, Iraq, in April 2004. In that assault, members of the Marine Corps, under Mattis’ command, shot at ambulances and aid workers. They cordoned off the city, preventing civilians from escaping. They posed for trophy photos with the people they killed.

Each of these offenses has put other military commanders and members of the rank and file in front of international war crimes tribunals. The doctrine that landed them there dates back to World War II, when an American military tribunal held Japanese Gen. Tomoyuki Yamashita accountable for war crimes in the Philippines. His execution later was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.

During the siege of Fallujah, which I covered as an unembedded journalist, Marines killed so many civilians that the municipal soccer stadium had to be turned into a graveyard.

Dahr Jamail | James Mattis Is a War Criminal: I Experienced His Attack on Fallujah Firsthand

In November 2005 US marines in Iraq committed a massacre of 24 unarmed Iraqi civilians. The slaughtering of unarmed men, women, children and elderly people, shot multiple times at close range, was retribution for a roadside bomb attack on a convoy of marines. The war crimes were extremely well documented and the atrocity garnered international attention.

When it came time to bring the marines responsible for the massacre to justice, Mattis was the convening authority over the eight charged with crimes at Haditha.

Mattis went on to dismiss all of the charges leveled against the marines who had been accused of killing the civilians and of the eight originally charged, only one still faces possible prosecution, but one can guess how that will end up.

Hey, Remember How James Mattis Was Accused of Doing War Crimes?

It’s also worth remembering that Mattis is hardy deserving of the respect stowed upon him simply because he’s a military guy. In fact, Mattis very may well have committed war crimes while commanding Marines in Iraq. Per Aaron Glantz, who wrote a retrospective for Reveal when Mattis was first nominated for defense secretary:

Retired Gen. James Mattis earned the nickname “Mad Dog” for leading U.S. Marines into battle in Fallujah, Iraq, in April 2004. Russian Experts: US Supports Terrorists in Syria by Taking 50,000 Civilians Hostage in Al-Tanf
Russian experts said that the US is supporting the terrorists by incarcerating thousands of civilians in Homs province, referring to Washington's occupation of al-Tanf base in Eastern Syria

The Arabic-language website of SANA news agency quoted the experts as saying on Thursday that over 5,000 US military men are deployed in Northeastern Syria and al-Tanf region.

They added that the US troops are occupying al-Rukban camp in al-Tanf region as a cover to support the remaining ISIL terrorists in the region, while keeping 50,000 civilians in the camp as they face shortage of humanitarian aid.

The experts also said that presence of the US forces and their allies in Syria and their military measures in Syrian territories without any permission from Damascus is clear violation of the international laws, which should be prosecuted through the international court of justice as a war crime.

Other reports also said that human trafficking has increased in al-Tanf region and the terrorists plunder civilians' properties.

Who were they to lecture Germans on racial oppression? The wily Stalin new this would come up, and looked forward to scoring propaganda points against his hypocritical and cynical allies. The Pentagon's "accounting error” regarding the refueling of coalition jets in Yemen is just another swindle in a long line of accounting issues from the poshest military in the world

Cancer as Weapon: Poppy Bush’s Radioactive War on Iraq

If George Bush Sr., Dick Cheney, Colin Powell and Bill Clinton are still casting about for a legacy, there’s a grim one that will stay around for an eternity.

It was justly called an environmental war crime.

But months of bombing of Iraq by US and British planes and cruise missiles has left behind an even more deadly and insidious legacy: tons of shell casings, bullets and bomb fragments laced with depleted uranium. In all, the US hit Iraqi targets with more than 970 radioactive bombs and missiles.

George H.W. Bush’s Complicity in the 1991 “Highway of Death” Massacre.

A “statesman” and “American hero”? What a lie!

When George H.W. Bush was president he ordered the massacre of Iraqi soldiers after the ceasefire in 1991, and after he had promised them safe passage out of Kuwait. This article, which went viral after the war, exposed Bush as a mass murderer and war criminal, directly involved in the “Highway of Death.” He is a “hero” only to Big Oil and the Wall Street financial empire. This account was assembled by the author and presented by her at a tribunal examining U.S. war crimes. It is still cited around the world on anniversaries of this war.

I want to give testimony on what are called the “highways of death.” These are the two Kuwaiti roadways, littered with remains of 2,000 mangled Iraqi military vehicles, and the charred and dismembered bodies of tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers, who were withdrawing from Kuwait on February 26th and 27th 1991 in compliance with UN resolutions.

Trump Admin Mum on Syria “Rebel” Chemical Attack in Aleppo

On Saturday evening, a barrage of mortars filled with chemical weapons was launched into Syrian government-controlled territory in the Aleppo province by “rebels” linked to al Qaeda in the nearby Idlib province.

The attack – which was confirmed by both pro-government and pro-opposition sources – left over 100 civilians hospitalized after the gas released by the mortars caused “difficulty breathing, eye inflammation, shivering and fainting,” according to the head of the Aleppo Doctors Syndicate, Zaher Batal, as cited by Reuters. Batal and other Aleppo doctors suspect that chlorine gas was the substance responsible for the symptoms of those affected.

Despite the fact that chemical weapons were used by al Qaeda-linked militants in Idlib, the U.S. government and its allies have thus far been silent about the recent attack, even though the incident was covered by mainstream Western outlets such as CNN and Reuters. Instead, the U.S. announced a UN Security Council meeting — not to denounce the chemical-weapons attacks launched against civilians by an internationally recognized terror group but to address the recent hostilities between Russia and Ukraine over Crimea.
