Israeli PM Praises US for Leaving UN Human Rights Council

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US administration for leaving the UN Human Right Council, saying its step was “courageous” in criticizing the council of bias.

Netanyahu thanked, in a statement on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump, Minister Pompeo and Ambassador Nikki Haley for their decision against what he called the “hypocrisy and lies” of the so-called UN Human Rights Council.

He added, according to Al Ray, that the Human Rights Council proves its chronic bias against Israel, claiming that it has betrayed its mission of protecting human rights.

The United States announced, on Tuesday, its leaving the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, which Ambassador Nikki Haley called “an organization that is not worthy of its name.”

Israeli government intensifies efforts to link BDS to ‘terrorism’

Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan upped his government’s efforts to link the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign with “terrorism”, in a presentation to pro-Israel activists on Tuesday night, reported The Jerusalem Post.

Erdan unveiled what he described in a post on Twitter as a “map of the Delegitimization Network – aka, the Hate Net”, which the minister claimed “mapped out the 42 leading #BDS orgs, their hub in Ramallah & the connections between them”.

The minister told an audience of Israel advocates that “a coordinated and financed network of [boycott] organizations is led from Ramallah and Gaza, a quarter of which have links to terrorist organizations, including Hamas and the PFLP [Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine]”.

UK Jews condemn Board of Deputies of British Jews for endorsing Gaza massacre

Some 75 members of the Jewish community have sent an open letter to the Board of Deputies of British Jews condemning its support for Israel’s violence against Palestinian protesters on the Gaza border.

“We are appalled that the Board of Deputies (BoD) which claims to be ‘the voice of British Jews,’ has once again attempted to justify the massacre of unarmed Palestinian people by the Israeli military,” the statement read.

The Death of Independence

The inevitability of a decent into despotism, built into the structure of Article VI, Paragraph 2 of the U.S. Constitution, commonly referred to as the Supremacy Clause, has proven true. It establishes that the federal constitution and federal law generally, take precedence over state laws, and even state constitutions.

Insatiable appetites and lust for power marks the ascendency of legislative, bureaucratic and judicial careers throughout the three branches of central government. Incrementalism and deception has evolved into open defiance and unfettered arrogance. The political class pretends that partisan parties actually offer loyal opposition, when both are camouflaged versions of the same vermin. As likely that cockroaches will inherit the earth, it is more certain that parasitic politicians steal the hopes and dreams of citizens, while destroying any chance for the common-man to have a future worth living.

Why the US will never say sorry for destroying Iraq

A new poll conducted by the Pew Research Center has found that 43 percent of Americans still believe that invading Iraq was the right decision. Let that sink in for a minute: almost half of Americans still believe that an illegal war, based on doctored intelligence and entirely debunked claims, which resulted in almost immeasurable death and destruction, was the right thing to do, morally, politically, or otherwise ... Back to Iraq. A survey conducted for the National Geographic Society in 2006 found that 63 percent of Americans aged 18-24 could not locate Iraq on a map. This is astonishing, given that the US has fought two wars there since 1990 and occupied the country for close to a decade.
Note: The cost is now TRILLIONS, not billions.

Israeli bill would criminalise critical documentation of soldiers’ activities

Israel’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation is expected to approve a draft bill on Sunday that aims to ban the documentation of Israeli soldiers’ treatment of Palestinians by human rights groups.

The legislation would prohibit the “documentation and distribution of any report about confrontations between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians with the intent either to harm national security or to ‘break the spirit of Israeli soldiers and inhabitants’”, reported Haaretz.

The law, proposed by MK Robert Ilatov of Yisrael Beitenu, enjoys support from faction head Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and the Kulanu party, headed by Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon.

Saudi Arabia Tried to Blame Doctors Without Borders for Bombing Yemen Cholera Treatment Center

Early on June 13, the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Washington, DC tweeted a photo of a fax from MSF’s administrator of communication and liaison in Djibouti. This document is dated June 11, and the Saudi embassy claimed it showed MSF “clearly admit that the unfortunate facility incident was due to their failure to update their coordinates per standard procedures.”

MSF told me this claim is false. The organization clarified that it gave the Saudi coalition the GPS coordinates for its cholera treatment center at least 12 times in writing, and the coalition “acknowledged receipt of these coordinates in writing at least nine times.”

Gaza’s bloody Monday

Throughout the past seven decades, the UN General Assembly has repeatedly recognized that Palestinian refugees are entitled to go home. The Great Return March has asserted that right, while drawing attention to how Israel violates it.

Ahmed was the son of Mahmoud al-Rantisi, an information technology teacher at the Islamic University of Gaza and a leading member of Hamas.

Ahmed’s connections to Hamas give Israel no excuse for killing him and other unarmed demonstrators. Under international human rights law, it is illegal for Israeli snipers – shielded by two fences – to open fire on protesters.

Why Trump’s Next Pardon Should Be CIA Whistleblower John Kiriakou

President Donald Trump should pardon John Kiriakou as soon as possible. He should do so to reverse former president Barack Obama’s worst injustice: putting a man in prison for blowing the whistle on the CIA’s post-9/11 interrogation techniques, now widely considered to be torture and banned by Obama himself.

Kiriakou was highly decorated during his 14 years of CIA counterterrorism service. In 2007, he went public with what the CIA was doing to prisoners—which current CIA director Gina Haspel most recently disowned in a letter to Senator Mark Warner: “[T]he program ultimately did damage to our officers and our standing in the world. With both the benefit of hindsight and my experience as a senior Agency leader, the enhanced interrogation program is not one the CIA should have undertaken.” Kiriakou’s objections catalyzed the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005, which strengthened and clarified existing interrogation prohibitions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was so typically, and sneakily, immoral on the part of President ("You ratted what we were doing out, so now, I'm taking my revenge") Obama, that it has to make thinking people wonder about the great schism between his public personna (poetic, and eloquent enough, if the Chiron didn't stumble), and those vindictive, and mendacious tendecies which plagued his presidency, and led to a real rise in the use of extrajudicial assassinations, and in siding with the megalomaniacal monarch, Saudi Arabia's
Prince Bin Salman, in his decision to involve the US military with the Saudi military campaign in Yemen in 2015.

Youngsters “disabled for life” by Israel’s shoot-to-cripple policy in Gaza

The number of dead is outrageous; the number injured – especially gunshot victims, and particularly victims of “butterfly bullets” – is unconscionable. These young protesters will need multiple, complex surgeries (or amputation) and intensive rehabilitation, in a region where medical facilities and staff are already stretched beyond their limits. We can only hope for an authentic investigation via the UN Human Rights Council.

300 prominent global figures accuse Israel of committing ‘war crimes’

Israel’s forcible transfer of thousands of Palestinians has been denounced as a war crime by over 300 elected officials, legal scholars, academics, artists, faith leaders and activists from around the world.

The universal show of solidarity to the Palestinians was published in an open letter which voiced strong opposition to Israel’s plans to forcibly transfer thousands of Palestinians living in farming-shepherding communities in the occupied West Bank.

Signatories include 90 members of parliament, many of whom are from the EU and UK parliaments. Other notable signatories include ten Israel Prize laureates, film director Ken Loach, artists Ai Weiwei, author Alice Walker, academic Noam Chomsky and several musicians. Dozens of Rabbis have also signed the letter denouncing Israel for what many would describe ethnic cleansing.

‘Every bullet has a precise address’ – another Israeli journalist justifies the massacre

This logic has been uttered by a prominent Israeli journalist: Mass shootings of Palestinians have saved their lives. Reporting from the sniper positions near the Gaza fence, Dan Margalit writes in his Hebrew-only Haaretz opinion (Saturday):

From this position, the events looked a bit different than from the Karni crossing near Nahal Oz. Now I am convinced, more than at the beginning of the fighting about 10 weeks ago, that the massive shooting at the beginning of the battles [sic] has saved many Palestinian lives, and of course, first and foremost, lives of Israelis.”

And just how does he get to the logic, that mass shooting of Palestinians is good for them (and of course, first and foremost for us, and despite the fact that no real “battles” have really occurred in these demonstrations)?

THE SALVADOR OPTION: THE US IS ONCE AGAIN SUPPORTING DEATH SQUADS IN CENTRAL AMERICA

The United States has been quietly funding and equipping elite paramilitary police units in El Salvador accused of extrajudicially murdering suspected gang members, according to a forthcoming United Nations report reviewed in advance by CNN.

Beginning with George W. Bush in 2003, successive US administrations have provided tens of millions of dollars in aid for Salvadoran military and police in support of the government’s “Mano Dura” (“Firm Hand”) security program, an aggressive campaign to combat out-of-control gang violence in a country with one of the world’s highest homicide rates.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Such use of US-funded paramilitaries by the El Salvador government goes against the grain of everything which is American, including that apparently rather quaint, and no longer observed, concept of due process.

It rather reminds me of the attitude of the Papal Vicar, Dominique Guzman, when he heard, during the siege against the Cathars at Montsegur in France, that women and children were among the men holed up there, he remarked: "Kill them all; God will find his own."

SYRACUSE NATIONAL SECURITY PROGRAM DIRECTOR REGISTERS AS A SAUDI FOREIGN AGENT

The director of a national security program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs has registered with the U.S. Department of Justice as an agent of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 28Pages.org is first to report.

In his registration statement, retired U.S. Army Colonel Bill Smullen, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, indicated he has agreed to provide “public relations support” to the Saudi embassy for compensation initially projected at $8,000.

Smullen’s National Security Studies program at Syracuse is billed as “a premier professional development program that offers executive education courses for senior civilian and military leaders who are responsible for the national security interests of their respective organizations.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh, trust me, Smullen and Keppler are going to have their work cut out for them.

Considering that Saudi Arabia is running a military genocide against the Yemeni people, and committing war crimes; considering that Saudi Arabia is a non-Constitutional monarchy, where people can have limbs amputated, and be flogged for various offenses; considering that women are considered a sub-class of human beings, and inferior to the men who literally "own" them; where female genital mutilation is still allowed, and considered "reasonable"; that there is zero freedom of religion, and one can get assassinated for being anything other than Wahabi Muslim in terms of faith, yes, these people are going to be very busy boys!!

Torture By US Is More Widespread Than Has Been Publicly Acknowledged

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the country’s use of torture is far deeper and more systemic than what has been publicly acknowledged.

Revelations on the use of torture by US intelligence personnel during the George W Bush presidency have been described as one of the "darkest chapters" in US history.

Not only did it erode whatever moral authority the US claimed to have had during the first decade of the "War on Terror," but the egregious mistreatment of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib and Camp Bucca also helped to give birth to the self-proclaimed Islamic State and to re-energise the global jihad movement.

You'd be mistaken, however, if you believed this nefarious chapter in US history started and ended with the Bush administration - and given that the Republican-controlled Congress has voted to probe whether US troops resorted to torture as part of their interrogation of prisoners in Yemen, you can be sure there is still much to learn.

For two years in a secret prison in Romania, the CIA tortured the Saudis

ROMANIA and Lithuania allowed their secret prisons to be located in secret US prisons where Palestinian and Saudi Arabian citizens were detained and abused, the European Court of Human Rights, headquartered in Strasbourg, today ruled.

The court said the Saudi Arabian citizen Abd al-Rahim Al-Nashiri, who was later sent to jail in Guantanamo Bay, was detained and abused in Romania from September 2003 to October 2005.

The court therefore called on Romania to investigate the case and punish those responsible, but, as the agency notes, Bucharest denies that such facilities were located in the US Central Intelligence Agency ( CIA ).

The court reportedly said that Lithuania on its territory provided for the CIA prison from February 2005 to March 2006, where Palestinian Abu Zubaydah was detained, suspected of planning attacks on September 11, 2001.

BREAKING: Israeli Media Exposes Identity of IDF Commander Whose Unit Kidnaps, Assassinates Palestinians

Last week, the hated IDF unit, Duvdevan, performed yet another of its nightly raids in the Palestinian refugee camp al-Am’ari outside Ramallah. It was searching for a Palestinian suspect. It’s not known whether it apprehended the suspect, who he was, or what he was suspected of. Palestinian villagers hate these nighttime raids in which their fellow residents are kidnapped, dragged for questioning, and often imprisoned for months or years either without charges or on trumped-up charges. Duvdevan personnel in particular often disguise themselves as mistarvim (dress as local Palestinians) to arrest and even assassinate targets. That’s why local residents engage in acts of resistance, including rock throwing, at the unwelcome Israeli troops.

Roberts: Putin’s Peace Efforts Are Coming To Naught

The Trump regime has sabotaged Putin’s peace efforts in Syria, Iran, Ukraine, and North Korea.

In the interest of peace Putin has avoided responding to US and Israeli provocations in Syria. Putin went so far as to invite the war criminal and genocidal maniac Netanyahu to Russia for the celebration of Russia’s victory over Germany in World War II. Netanyahu accepted, but showed Putin who is boss by ordering illegal Israeli military attacks on Syrian army positions just prior to his departure for Russia. Washington rewarded Putin’s peace efforts by occupying with US and French troops the part of Syria still held by Washington’s mercenaries sent to overthrow Assad and by re-supplying the Muslim extremists Washington is using against Assad’s secular government. With US and French troops present, Putin has halted the offensive to clear all of Syria of the foreign invaders. If Americans or French are killed, Putin knows that the demonization of Russia will reach a new high pitch and Washington will use it to counteract Europe’s dissatisfaction with Washington. The box into which Putin has been put by the Russian government’s misjudgement of US and Israeli intentions allows continuing US-led attacks on Syrian military positions. War Crimes Committed by Federal Forces During the Civil War

We have all come been taught that Abraham Lincoln was a gentle man, “Honest Abe,” a man who advocated “malice toward none and charity for all.” We have been taught that Lincoln would have opposed the policy pursued by Radical Republicans like Thaddeus Stevens, which pushed for vengeful, retributive policies against the South. We have been taught in books, movies and documentaries that Lincoln instead preferred a policy of healing that neither punished the defeated Confederate government and Army nor average Southern civilians.

The Sand Creek Massacre

Colorado Territory during the 1850's and 1860's was a place of phenomenal growth in Colorado homes spurred by gold and silver rushes. Miners by the tens of thousands had elbowed theirway into mineral fields, dislocating and angering the Cheyennes and Arapahos. The Pike's Peak Gold Rush in 1858 brought the the tension to a boiling point. Tribesmen attacked wagon trains, mining camps, and stagecoach lines during the Civil War, when the military garrisons out west were reduced by the war. One white family died within 20 miles of Denver. This outbreak of violence is sometimes referred to as the Cheyenne-Arapaho War or the Colorado War of 1864-65.

Was My Lai just one of many massacres in Vietnam War?

In a war in which lip service was often paid to winning "hearts and minds", the US military had an almost singular focus on one defining measure of success in Vietnam: the body count - the number of enemy killed in action.Very quickly the phrase - "If it's dead and Vietnamese, it's VC" - became a defining dictum of the war and civilian corpses were regularly tallied as slain enemies or Viet Cong.

Civilians, including women and children, were killed for running from soldiers or helicopter gunships that had fired warning shots, or being in a village suspected of sheltering Viet Cong.

At the time, much of this activity went unreported - but not unnoticed.

CIA KNEW TORTURE WAS EXTORTING BAD INTELLIGENCE — KEPT DOING IT ANYWAY

The CIA’s record of torture is front and center in the media again. This time because President Donald Trump’s new CIA Director, Gina Haspel, played a key role in the agency’s program of “enhanced interrogation” (i.e., torture). Haspel was head of station in at least one of the CIA’s black sites in Thailand where torture took place, and also held multiple senior roles at the CIA Counterterrorism Center, which oversaw the torture program.

She was also involved in the destruction of the video recordings of the torture sessions and was less than forthcoming recently with members of Congress who asked about her role in that action.

Nevertheless, the Senate confirmed her. The fact that Haspel, who played a key role in the CIA torture program, made it through the confirmation process fairly easily, signals, at the very least, that the agency should have no problem continuing to shield itself from any outside scrutiny of its treatment of terror suspects in the years after 9/11.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Back during World War II, the Germans had a brilliant interrogator, Hanns Scharff.

The Story of Hanns Scharff

Scharff never indulged in violence of any kind; he used kindness and rewards to gain insight into the British and German prisoners of war he questioned, and frequently brought them out of their prison on day trips for cultural events.

After the war, Scharff was so well thought of, and respected, that the American military invited him to the US to teach his methods to American interrogators.

It is unfortunate that the President and CIA have forgotten (and/or unlearned) that there were other methods, rather than torture, which would give the interrerogator far superior, and actionable, intelligence.

So instead of a Scharff archetype being nominated and confirmed in the position of CIA director, they put a Torquemada archetype in charge instead.

This choice bear ominous witness to what lies ahead for US foreign policy; more and more wars, other than those we cannot seem to be able to win, like Afghanistan and Libya, and ultimately... more torture.

Torture only makes the tortured person say what they believe their torturers want to hear, to get the torture to stop.

And when the US government tortures, or outsources torture, two things happen.

First, the world understands, very clearly, that for all of the political drivel being vomited to the world, about this country's respect for humanitarian values, and the rule of law, when it comes torturing prisoners of war, (which is what these people are), those values and laws get well and truly flushed.

Secondly, when we torture, or outsourcing it, that gives leadership in other countries carte blanche to torture American military members, and American troops.

Please chew on that last one for a while, if you still think torture is a "good idea."

Haspel Is Not the Problem. The CIA Is the Problem.

As a general rule, when Dick Cheney favors a foreign policy position it’s best to be on the opposite side if you value liberty over war and authoritarianism. The former vice president’s enthusiastic endorsement of not only Gina Haspel as CIA director but of the torture program she oversaw should tell us all we need to know about Haspel.

Saying that Haspel would make a great CIA director, Cheney dismissed concerns over the CIA’s torture program. Asked in a television interview last week about the program, Cheney said, “if it were my call, I’d do it again.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, Dr. Paul, this is precisely what we have become as a country; a country with no concern for human rights, either domestic or foreign; where the quietly corrupt, as is former President Barak Obama, who has been unmasked as having ordered spying on the Trump campaign, gets brilliantly financially rewarded; and where the agendas of the military/industrial complex and the medical/industrial complex must be obeyed, and anyone with peaceful, alternative views will get either literally, or, professionally, assassinated.

I understand this very completely, as that last criminal act, is what happened to my sweetheart Michael, when he asked a very logical question concerning the very strange death of Vincent Foster, during the Clinton years.

The Holocaust Did Not Legitimize Zionism

The Holocaust did not legitimize Zionism
If international public opinion does not understand that Jews deserved Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in 1933 no less than in 1948, it will infer that Zionism owes its legitimacy to Hitler.

Western support for Israel and the Jewish People based on shame and guilt due to the Holocaust is problematic. It implies that Jews in Israel are owed solidarity due to the wrongs of the past, rather than to their being right in the present.

Living in Berlin, I realize that many Europeans and particularly Germans support Israel more out of collective guilt and shame than genuine conviction. This is dangerous. As soon as these painful feelings ebb - as they inevitably are bound to - so will their support for Israel and Jews. Furthermore this guilt and shame can easily morph into resentment and rage.

The Messiah Is Here

Excellent piece covering the last couple of weeks in the Mideast.
Pretty well sums it up! Trump and Putin in Netanyahu's pocket.

The arrival of Benjamin Netanyahu on that day was a heaven-sent gift for Putin. Here was the man who could call upon the US Senate, who can deal with the US President, and now he came in person, Mr World Jewry personified, supporting the Russian narrative of history

Netanyahu repaid his host by a missile strike upon Syria, almost right away. This is a standard Israeli procedure: upon any high-level meeting with the Russians, bomb their allies, so they would know who is more important. They bombed Syria while Russian Defence Minister Shoygu’s jet was still in flight from Moscow to Tel Aviv.
Putin swallowed it, and promised to refrain from supplying S-300 to Syria, despite his Chief of Staff’s words.

A Grotesque Spectacle in Jerusalem

Much of the world condemned the killings in Gaza. Yet the United States, Israel's most important patron, has given it a free hand to do with the Palestinians what it will. Indeed, by moving the embassy to Jerusalem in the first place, Trump sent the implicit message that the U.S. government has given up any pretense of neutrality ... Trump has empowered what's worst in Israel, and as long as he is president, it may be that Israel can kill Palestinians, demolish their homes and appropriate their land with impunity. But some day, Trump will be gone. With hope for a two-state solution nearly dead, current trends suggest that a Jewish minority will come to rule over a largely disenfranchised Muslim majority in all the land under Israel's control.

IDF Snipers Ordered to Shoot Palestinian Children, Israeli General Confirms

Lets be clear as to implications.

When they ” shoot at children, they are doing so deliberately, under clear and specific orders.”

What this means is that the Netanyahu government ordered the killing of children. The guidelines adopted by the IDF were approved at the highest levels of the Israeli government.

We are dealing with crimes against humanity and the self-proclaimed “international community” applauds. Western leaders, not to mention the media, are complicit: the consensus is that “Israel has the right to defend itself” …. by killing children.

Through omission, the Western media does not mention the words “Gaza Massacre”. You won’t see it. The Palestinians are described as “terrorists”. The lie become the truth!

Webmaster's Commentary:

When you mame and kill children, you mame and kill the future of that society of which those children were a part; this is one of the many-faceted elements of Israel's "Final Solution" to the "Palestinian Problem".

UN Votes to Send War Crimes Investigators to Gaza

The United Nations' top human rights body has voted to send a team of international war crimes investigators to probe the deadly shootings of Gaza protesters by Israeli forces.

A resolution calling on the UN Human Rights Council to "urgently dispatch an independent, international commission of inquiry" was backed on Friday by 29 members.

The members - United States and Australia - voted against and 14 abstained.

Investigators must "investigate all alleged violations and abuses ... in the context of the military assaults on large scale civilian protests that began on 30 March 2018", the approved resolution said.

Gaza and Palestine 101 for Americans

One should ask, “Why are Palestinians protesting?” before cheering for their death in Gaza. Blaming Hamas is a talking point that hides many facts and realities. Number of Israelis injured: ZERO!...

Israel Won’t Cooperate With UN Probe on Gaza Killings

Israeli officials announced Friday that they will completely refuse all cooperation with the new UN probe into the Nakba Day killings of 61 Palestinian protesters at the Gaza border. The protesters were killed by Israeli troops.

A UN Security Council resolution failed to agree on the probe, when it was vetoed by the United States. The UN Human Rights Council, where no veto power exists, held a special session agreeing to send international investigators into the probe.

It was the deadliest single day in the Gaza Strip since the 2014 Israeli invasion. The incident lead to substantial international outcry. Israeli officials argued that the number of deaths were themselves of no consequence, likening it to killing Nazis.

Gina Haspel Said Only One Detainee’s Torture Was Taped. She’s Wrong.

Donald Trump’s chosen CIA chief claimed the torture tapes she helped destroy showed one detainee’s torture. But she oversaw the torture of a second taped detainee.

It seemed like a small misstatement, the sort anyone makes from time to time, but it might augur much for Gina Haspel’s relationship with the truth as Donald Trump’s potential next CIA director.

All the available evidence, to include declassified CIA documents, indicates that two detainees had their torture at the hands of the CIA recorded on 92 agency videotapes in 2002 at a black site Haspel eventually ran. The vast majority of the tapes showed Abu Zubaydah’s torture. A few showed the torture of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, whose waterboarding and other torture occurred under Haspel’s command as chief of base at the Thailand secret prison she ran between October and December 2002.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The choice of Haspel was perfectly logical, on Trump's part.

He is telegraphing perpetual wars, "seasoned" with torture, will be the rule of the day, and the rule of law, and the Geneva Conventions, be damned.

And I would like you to think about this, particularly if you have family in the military.

When this country tortures, or outsources it , there are two results. First, the rest of the world understands that the humanitarian values, this country claims it practices, are practiced in the breach, not in their observance.
Second, when this country tortures, or outsources torture, it gives a country's leadership carte blanche to do precisely the same to American citizens, or our military.

Back in World War II, there was a German interrogator, Hans Scharff, who never, ever used torture:
Wikipedia: Hans Scharff

He was lauded for his humanitarian treatment of American and British POWS, and would take them out on day passes for cultural events, and feed them decently. At the end of the war, he was so highly respected by the US government and military, that he was invited to teach his methods at military bases all over the country.

Torture doesn't work, and will only get the tortured person to say what he or she thinks the torturer wants to hear to get the torture to stop, and very rarely produces actionable results. People who torture like to hurt people, because they can, and psychologically "get off" on the process, and know that they will be able to get away with it with impunity.

The fact that he and his advisors chose a Torquemada archetype, as the Director of the CIA, rather than a Scharff archetype, does not bode well for American foreign policy any time soon.

Arab League demands international probe into Israeli 'crimes'

The Arab League called Thursday for an international probe into alleged crimes by Israeli forces against Palestinians following mass protests on the Gaza border that saw dozens of demonstrators killed.

Tens of thousands have protested along Gaza's border with Israel since March 30 calling for Palestinian refugees to be able to return to their homes now inside Israel.

The largest demonstrations coincided with the move of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Monday, which saw Israeli forces kill some 60 Palestinians.

Senate Panel Endorses Gina Haspel, Despite Her Facilitation of Torture

The Senate Intelligence Committee voted 10-5 to support Gina Haspel’s nomination today, despite the fact that her facilitation of torture should disqualify her from assuming the role of CIA director.

Next the full Senate will make a final decision on Haspel’s nomination in a vote that is expected to take place next week but could occur as early as tomorrow.

In her testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on May 9, Haspel insisted that the CIA’s interrogation program during the Bush administration was legal. Haspel, a 33-year CIA veteran, argued that it could not be determined whether torture was effective to gain intelligence. She refused to state categorically that torture is immoral. And she never condemned the torture program in which she participated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If Haspel wins the nomination of the Senate on this appointment, consider the international rules of law having completely thrown out by the Trump Administration. We will then witness more continuous US-led wars for resources, to which this country has absolutely no moral right, and the return to the draft, both for our young men... and young women.

And with that will come more waterboarding, and more torture, and more abuses both at home and abroad.

Is love or politics behind Putin’s promotion of Chabad?

JTA — When even Russian policemen had to pass security checks to enter the Sochi Winter Olympics, Rabbi Berel Lazar was waved in without ever showing his ID.

Lazar, a Chabad-affiliated chief rabbi of Russia, was invited to the opening ceremony of the games last month by President Vladimir Putin’s office. But since the event was on Shabbat, Lazar initially declined the invitation, explaining he was prevented from carrying documents, among other religious restrictions.

So Putin ordered his staff to prepare an alternative entrance and security-free route just for the rabbi, according to one of Lazar’s top associates, Rabbi Boruch Gorin.

Weak-Kneed Russian Response to US Jerusalem Embassy Opening

Putin just loves Israel!
Trump’s moving of Washington’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, an international city, demands universal condemnation.

Not from Russia, notably not after Putin shamefully welcomed Ziofascist Netanyahu as an honored guest in Moscow for the 73rd Great Patriotic War triumph commemoration.

On Monday while Israeli soldiers were massacring Gazans, Russia failed to condemn it – nor Great Friday March of Return Friday mass-killings since March 30, nor moving Washington’s Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.

Palestinians are isolated on their own, struggling valiantly against a ruthless occupier, committing high crimes with impunity because the world community fails to stop them.

In the backdrop of the U.S. capital move to Jerusalem, the escalation of war with Iran, and the Israeli bombing in Syria, the Palestinian plight has worsened. Over the last few weeks, the bloodshed has significantly increased with over 100 deaths and over 7000 injuries. The hospitals do not have the necessary supplies to care for the injured which will surely raise the death toll. All of the death and injuries occurred against unarmed civilians resulting in major casualties for the Palestinians and zero injuries for the Israelis. Israelis continue to claim self defense as the world wakens to the insanity of those claims.

On US Imperialism, Capitalism and Fascism

By David Pear. If you want to know the untold history of the U.S.A., then a good place to start is with the history of US imperialism in Asia from the mid-19th century until today. Not only will that reveal the history of the criminality of US foreign policy, but it will also reveal the true nature of U.S. capitalism, imperialism, fascism and U.S. wars of aggression: past, present and future. For centuries the U.S. has preached that it believes in democracy, freedom and self-determination, but its actions towards other countries speak louder than words. Internationally the U.S. is a predator and a bully. It subjugates small countries, corrupts them by backing right-wing dictators, and enables death squads to commit mass murder of all suspected dissidents. During the First Cold War leftists, anti-colonialists, nationalists and intellectuals were called "communists" and imprisoned, tortured and executed. Now they are called "terrorists". ‘Terrible massacre’: Israel kills 59, injures 2,771 Gaza protesters as US embassy opens in Jerusalem

Fifty-nine Palestinian protesters, including seven children under 18, have been killed by Israeli fire during demonstrations on the day of the US embassy's inauguration in Jerusalem, the Palestinian health ministry said Monday.

More than 2,700 protesters have been injured in Gaza on what has been the most violent day of the six week long Great March of Return. Those wounded on Monday include 203 children and 78 women, according to the ministry.

The Palestinian government denounced Monday’s violence as a “terrible massacre” perpetrated “by the forces of the Israeli occupation”, and called for an immediate international intervention to prevent further deaths. A day of national mourning has been declared by the government in Ramallah, to be held Tuesday.

Prediction of New False-Flag Gas Attack in Syria Seems to Fit US Escalation Plans

If a chemical weapons “attack” comes to pass in the place it has been predicted, it would be the first such provocation blamed on Assad to take place in territory occupied by a foreign power, likely triggering an intensified military response from the U.S.
***
>>>While Israel seems to have taken it upon itself to militarily intervene in Syria to prevent the Syrian government from continuing to reclaim its lost territory, the other major powers that have long sought the end of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have seemed to step back from intervening in Syria, unless another chemical weapons attack were to take place and be blamed on Assad.

For that reason, a recent article, published in early May by Russian news agency RIA Novosti, should raise concern, as it exposes alleged plans for another gas-attack provocation in Syria. According to the report, preparations for a staged chemical weapons attack began late last month as civilians were relocated to a territory near Jafra oil field in Eastern Syria, where they will participate in a staged filming of a chemical-weapons attack scene. According to South Front, a U.S. military garrison was recently established in this area. The report, based on the testimony of an anonymous member of the Syrian security services, claimed that an attack was being planned by U.S. security services and would employ “prohibited substances” against a group of civilians.

Serbian President Slams NATO Yugoslavia Bombing as More Kids Get Cancer

In 1999 NATO used ordnances containing depleted uranium in their bombardment of then-Yugoslavia in a bid to stop the killings of Albanians in Kosovo. According to Serbian data, they resulted in thousands killed and wounded civilians.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has slammed NATO's bombing campaign against then-Yugoslavia using munitions containing depleted uranium during the opening ceremony of the new Oncological Institute. According to him, Serbian doctors determined that such ordnances have severely affected the health of the country's young population.

"Today in the Oncological Institute I learned that more and more children are diagnosed with cancer in our country. Two Interrogations, Gina Haspel and Adolf Eichmann

Haspel Says CIA Won’t Torture Again as Ray McGovern Is Dragged Out of Hearing
Likewise Eichmann was probed about his obedience when “ordered to do something blatantly illegal.” In a response that augured Haspel’s Senate testimony a half century later, Eichmann told his interrogators:

“You say illegal. Today I have a very different view of things…But then? I wouldn’t have considered any of those actions illegal… If anyone had asked me about it up until May 8, 1945, the end of the war, I’d have said: This government was elected by a majority of the German people…every civilized country on earth had its diplomatic mission. Who is a little man like me to trouble his head about it? I get orders from my superior and I look neither right nor left. That’s not my job. My job is to obey and comply.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Watching Ray McGovern, a 78 year old peace activist/grandfather, getting stomped on by Capital Police at the Haspel hearings, in such a way that they deliberately injured him, has given me the clearest image of where my alleged government has gone, and that is full-tilt boogie fascistic.

U.S. MOVES FORWARD WITH MULTIBILLION-DOLLAR “SMART BOMB” SALE TO SAUDI ARABIA AND UAE DESPITE CIVILIAN DEATHS IN YEMEN

Last month, warplanes belonging to the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen repeatedly bombed a wedding party in the northern part of the country, killing more than 20 people, including the bride, and injuring dozens of others. In the days that followed, local media published a photograph of a bomb fragment with a serial number tying it to the U.S.-based weapons manufacturer Raytheon.
Now the State Department is taking preliminary steps toward a massive, multibillion-dollar sale of similar weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, three congressional aides, a State Department official, and two other people familiar with the sales told The Intercept.

The State Department has yet to announce the exact details and dollar value of the package, but it is said to include tens of thousands of precision-guided munitions from Raytheon, the same company that was involved in producing the weapons used in last month’s strike.

Webmaster's Commentary:

PLEASE, LORD, NO!!!

It feels like the entire American public has been at a "slow frog boil", a situation where the frog doesn't know it is in danger of dying, until it is too late; so it is with the normalization of weapons sales to absolute despots, to create a genocide which the B.O.Y. ( the Butcher of Yemen, AKA the Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman) is doing in Yemen.

I have rarely felt more completely out of control of my government than I do right now, as our alleged government continues to hurtle, at breakneck speed, toward more wars in the Middle East, most probably culminating in a war against Iran, which probably means a war against Russia.

The 'witch-hunt' that wasn't: The actual figures behind Troubles legacy investigations

A Northern Irish human rights organization has hit out at claims that a "witch-hunt" is underway against UK armed-forces veterans who served in Northern Ireland between 1968 and 1998.

The Pat Finucane Centre, a Derry-based advocacy group, took to Twitter to counter"inaccuracies and blatant lies," published in a Daily Mail 'scoop.' The piece labeled government plans to form a new Historical Investigations Unit (HUI), tasked with investigating unsolved murders during the conflict, as a "betrayal of our soldiers...again!"

But statistics provided by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and originally published by the BBC prove that this is not the case.

The setting up of the HUI was agreed as part of 2014's Stormont House Agreement – overseen by both the Irish and UK governments – and will take over from the now-defunct Historical Enquiries Team (HET), which ran from 2005 to 2014.
