Why is the U.S. okay with Israel having nuclear weapons but not Iran?

Iranian officials sometimes respond to accusations that Tehran is seeking a nuclear weapons capability by replying that, not only do they not want a bomb, they'd actually like to see a nuclear-weapons-free Middle East. Yes, this is surely in part a deflection, meant to shift attention away from concerns about Iran's nuclear activities by not-so-subtly nodding to the one country in the region that does have nuclear weapons: Israel.

POLAR GROWL Strengthens Allied Interoperability, Essential Bomber Navigation Skills

Two B-52 Stratofortresses from the 5th Bomb Wing, Minot (pronounced /MY-not/) Air Force Base, N.D., and a pair from the 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, La., completed today simultaneous, roundtrip sorties from their U.S. bases to the Arctic and North Sea regions, respectively.

The B-52 Stratofortress is capable of delivering large payload of precision nuclear or conventional ordnance over long ranges, while also providing decision makers the ability to rapidly project military power and generate decisive effects.

Why Iran Distrusts the US in Nuke Talks

The Iranians may be a bit paranoid but, as the saying goes, this does not mean some folks are not out to get them. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his knee-jerk followers in Washington clearly are out to get them – and they know it.

Nowhere is this clearer than in the surreal set of negotiations in Switzerland premised not on evidence, but rather on an assumption of Iran’s putative “ambition” to become a nuclear weapons state – like Israel, which maintains a secret and sophisticated nuclear weapons arsenal estimated at about 200 weapons. The supposed threat is that Iran might build one.

Who Spies for Israel in Washington’s Nuclear Negotiations?

All those Zionist ‘wise-guys’ of both genders, who think they have been so clever using their high office to serve Israel, are fooling themselves. More and more citizens are becoming aware that Israel’s espionage, its dictates to the US Congress and its manipulation of Executive powers are harming America. At the present, highly placed Zionist officials hold sway over the Obama Cabinet, but in the future they may find themselves facing charges of being agents of a foreign power, and a threat to US national security. They may find themselves sharing a cell block with Jonathan Pollard!

A Middle East Holocaust — Paul Craig Roberts

I have been around for a long time and have experienced more than most. The current situation in my experience is the most dangerous time of all for humanity.

Nuclear weapons are no longer restrained by the Cold War MAD doctrine. Washington has released them into pre-emptive first strike form.

The targets of these pre-emptive strikes–Russia and China–know it, because Washington proudly proclaims its immorality in public documents describing its war doctrine.

The result is to maximize the chance of nuclear war. If you were Russia and China, and you knew that Washington had a war doctrine that permits a surprise nuclear attack, would you sit there waiting while Washington cranks up its anti-Russian and anti-Chinese propaganda machine, demonizing both countries as a threat to “freedom and democracy”?

Saudi Arabia says it won't rule out building nuclear weapons

Saudi Arabia will not rule out building or acquiring nuclear weapons, the country’s ambassador to the United States has indicated.

Asked whether Saudi Arabia would ever build nuclear weapons in an interview with US news channel CNN, Adel Al-Jubeir said the subject was “not something we would discuss publicly”.

Pressed later on the subject he said: “This is not something that I can comment on, nor would I comment on.”

The ambassador’s reticence to rule out a military nuclear programme may reignite concerns that the autocratic monarchy has its eye on a nuclear arsenal.

Western intelligence agencies believe that the Saudi monarchy paid for up to 60% of Pakistan’s nuclear programme in return for the ability to buy warheads for itself at short notice, the Guardian newspaper reported in 2010.

Saddam Hussein – The Trial You Will Never See

A very good documentary about how Saddam Hussein was actively supported by the United States and other Western powers to get sophisticated arms, intelligence and chemical weapons to fight Khomeini’s Iran, everyone’s bogeyman of the 1980s. Human Rights violations by Saddam Hussein were criminally ignored by the United States and others, as long as he fought Iran, and right until the run up to his invasion of Kuwait. This documentary will shatter the notion of the United States and others as human rights champions, as Saddam Hussein’s killings were always known to the United States State Department and White House. This documentary at last let’s us know what Saddam’s sham trial in Baghdad was never meant to reveal to everyone.

US Declassifies Document Revealing Israel’s Nuclear Program

Smith, who heads the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy, reportedly said he thinks this is the first time the US government has officially confirmed that Israel is a nuclear power, a status that Israel has long been widely known to have despite being undeclared.

In a development that has largely been missed by mainstream media, the Pentagon early last month quietly declassified a Department of Defense top-secret document detailing Israel’s nuclear program, a highly covert topic that Israel has never formally announced to avoid a regional nuclear arms race, and which the US until now has respected by remaining silent.

FLASHBACK - VANUNU'S PHOTOS OF DIMONA - 1985

Mordechai Vanunu brought his camera to work in late 1985, shortly before leaving his eight-year stint as a technician at Israel's nuclear weapons factory at Dimona.

Acting on his conscience, he carefully took about 60 photos of the top-secret labs and unique production processes involved. When some of these photos were originally published in the London Sunday Times' exposé, they confirmed his eyewitness testimony about the extent of Israel's nuclear weapons program and revealed Israel to be one of the world's top nuclear powers. To this day, the Israeli government refuses international inspection of Dimona and continues to deny the existence of its nuclear arsenal.

Obama Takes Revenge Against Israel By Ordering Secret Nuclear Program Documents Declassified

Time for Obama to shake things up, 'declare Israel nuclear state'

Following reports of Israel’s espionage against US-Iran nuclear talks, it is time for the Obama administration to “declare Israel a nuclear state”, says Jim W. Dean, a columnist and political commentator based in Atlanta.

Current and former American officials told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday the spying operation was part of a campaign by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “penetrate the negotiations and then help build a case against the emerging terms of the deal.”

Dean told Press TV in a phone interview that “this comes as no surprise,” as Tel Aviv has been engaged in spy activities in the United States in other different areas including “industrial espionage to steal trade secrets”.

“Israel is a kind of parasite on the West. They have the right to just steal and take anything possible.”

The U.S. Has No Defense Against A Russian Nuclear Attack. Really.

The Obama Administration is proposing that the United States spend about a billion dollars per week in the fiscal year beginning October 1 to defend Afghanistan, Iraq and other nations against various threats they face. That’s how much money is in the Pentagon’s request for “overseas contingency operations.”

So guess how much money the administration is seeking to defend America’s homeland against an attack from Russia using nuclear-armed ballistic missiles. Russia has about 1,600 missile warheads capable of reaching U.S. territory, and if even a small fraction were launched, they could wipe out our electric grid, our financial networks, and quite possibly the whole U.S. economy.

The answer is that the administration is proposing to spend nothing.

The US Has Already Declared War on Russia

At times I feel completely overwhelmed by the current US-NATO military operations aimed at Russia. It's growing rapidly - one can't help but wonder if the recent 'victory' of the self-defensive forces in eastern Ukraine wasn't allowed by Washington and Kiev as a way to get public opinion behind the already well established plans for even more NATO escalation.

The Origin of the ‘New Cold War’

To start with: the ‘new Cold War,’ against Russia, is something of a misnomer, because it differs from the original version, against the U.S.S.R., in that it’s already a hot war, which started in Ukraine as being the key proxy-state for the American Government’s chief foreign-policy aim, of defeating Russia; and it’s a war that is very bloody, and widely lied-about in both the U.S. and Europe, but that is discussed in Russia as if it were somehow the result of mere errors by Western powers, when in fact all of the Western leaders knew from the get-go that this was intended to be a lynching of Russia by Uncle Sam, and when the EU have been going along with this aim because the U.S. aristocracy supposedly have the interests of European aristocrats in mind and not only their own: it’s ’the Western Alliance,’ after all.

U.S. Banks Bankrolling Nuclear Arms

Some 411 banks, insurance firms, and pension funds have invested $402 billion in 28 companies involved in the manufacture, maintenance, and stockpiling of nuclear weapons, authorities on nuclear affairs were told at a conference here.

Such weapons are now so powerful---up to 50 times as devastating as the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki---that they represent a threat to all life on the planet, said Susi Snyder, Program Manager of PAX, the main civil organization in The Netherlands that works for peace. (Snyder is a former Secretary-General of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.)

"After all the financial scandals, crises and promises to act in a more responsible and transparent way, here is the evidence that these same financial institutions continue to make unethical investments, into weapons of mass destruction," Snyder said.

The Iranian Threat That Never Was

If you take politicians and the mainstream media seriously, you believe that Iran wants a nuclear weapon and has relentlessly engaged in covert efforts to build one. Even if you are aware that Iran signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and is subject to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections, you may believe that those who run the Islamic Republic have cleverly found ways to construct a nuclear-weapons industry almost undetected. Therefore, you may conclude, Democratic and Republican administrations have been justified in pressuring Iran to come clean and give up its “nuclear program.”

But you would be wrong.

Anyone naturally skeptical about such foreign-policy alarms has by now found solid alternative reporting that debunks the official narrative about the alleged Iranian threat.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has questioned the judgement of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu over his stance on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Mr Netanyahu has criticised the US and others for “giving up” on trying to stop Iran obtaining nuclear weapons.

The Israeli PM “may not be correct”, Mr Kerry said after attending the latest Iran nuclear talks in Geneva.

FBI accused Oscar winner Arnon Milchan of selling secret US nuclear tech

Arnon Milchan, the producer of the film 12 Years A Slave, just won an Oscar. However, what is not being reported in Hollywood gossip columns is his alleged life as a secret agent.

Producer Arnon Milchan is a citizen of Israel and has close ties to the leadership of the Israel Labor party. FBI documents also suggest he is a foreign spy who illegally exported US nuclear tech. Arnon Milchan owned a trading company that was allegedly used to smuggle high tech triggering devices for nuclear weapons to Israel. The FBI believes 800 of these triggers were illegally sent to Israel.

Nuclear arsenals

Nine countries together possess more than 16,000 nuclear weapons. The United States and Russia maintain roughly 1,800 of their nuclear weapons on high-alert status – ready to be launched within minutes of a warning. Most are many times more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in 1945. A single nuclear warhead, if detonated on a large city, could kill millions of people, with the effects persisting for decades.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With all the screeching about Iran's nuclear weapons (which even Mossad agrees are no more real than Saddam's) it is worth recalling what nations actually do have nuclear weapons, and which nation has actually used them against the civilians of another country.

Leaked cables show Netanyahu’s Iran bomb claim contradicted by Mossad

Brandishing a cartoon of a bomb with a red line to illustrate his point, the Israeli prime minister warned the UN in New York that Iran would be able to build nuclear weapons the following year and called for action to halt the process.

But in a secret report shared with South Africa a few weeks later, Israel’s intelligence agency concluded that Iran was “not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons”.

Historic US-Iran nuclear deal could be taking shape

Edging toward a historic compromise, the U.S. and Iran reported progress Monday on a deal that would clamp down on Tehran's nuclear activities for at least 10 years but then slowly ease restrictions on programs that could be used to make atomic arms.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Has Kerry been informed that Israel's own Mossad does not think Iran is trying to build a bomb?

Report: Leaked intelligence document shows Mossad didn't think Iran sought nuclear weapon

Al Jazeera says one of hundreds of intelligence documents it has obtained shows that Mossad assessment of Iranian nuclear threat differed with Netanyahu's statements on the issue.

U.S. helped Israel develop hydrogen bomb: Obama releases documents

Officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran claim they have documents that prove the United States assisted Israel in its development of a hydrogen bomb, which they claim is a crime according to international laws, according to the Iranian news media. And there is suspicion that President Barack Obama declassified the documents and released them to a left-wing think-tank to hurt Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Fiji slams UK for refusal to compensate victims of nuclear tests

Fiji has slammed the UK government for its refusal to compensate Fijian soldiers who were exposed to radiation during British nuclear tests in late 1950s.

“We are bringing justice to a brave and proud group of Fijians to whom a great injustice was done,” Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama said at a Friday ceremony held for the recognition of the suffering of the veterans.

“We are righting a wrong. We are closing an unfortunate chapter in our history,” Bainimarama added in an apparent reference to the UK’s refusal over the compensation.

The prime minister also stated, “Fiji is not prepared to wait for Britain to do the right thing. We owe it to these men to help them now, not wait for the British politicians and bureaucrats.”

Fiji was a British colony at the time of the nuclear tests.

Oceania: Heavy legacy of US military ambitions

Drawing by a child on the Marshall Islands, depicting the US’s Bikini Atoll nuclear explosion. It was widely seen as a nuclear experiment on human beings. Admitted: US helped Israel build the Bomb

An official government document revealing the true extent of this ‘special relationship’ is now available for the world to see.

It surely would not have been possible for the Israelis to acquire the H-Bomb without American help, and now we know for sure that the US did indeed help – allegedly ‘skirting’ around strict international standards on the issue.

At present, much is being made by Republicans in the US Congress about Iran’s alleged (and still non existent) nuclear weapons program and “the rule of law”, so this latest revelation only their own belies grandiose platitudes on the issue.

Arkansas state senator suggests US nuke allies in order to deal with ISIS threat

Arkansas state Senator Jason Rapert took to Facebook to suggest that the best way to “quickly turn things around” in territory captured by Islamic State extremists would be a “strategically placed nuclear weapon.”

“With ISIS spreading all over the Middle East and Africa and Islamic Extremists carrying out violence in Europe, the United Kingdom and even in the United States, I wonder why the civilized world just sits by when we have weapons that could wipe out these barbarians where they are concentrated?” he asked.

“I believe,” Rapert continued, “it is time to annihilate the strongholds and pursue the rest till we have them all captured or killed. A strategically placed nuclear weapon would save the lives of our soldiers and quickly turn things around.”

Russia to Conduct Observation Flights Over US, Italy – Defense Ministry

Russian aviation inspectors will conduct two observation flights over the territory of the United States and one over the territory of Italy in February under the Treaty on Open Skies, the head of the Russian National Centre for Reducing Nuclear Threat Sergei Ryzhkov has said.

It will be the second, third and fourth Russian observation flights over the territories of the treaty signatory states in 2015. Earlier in February, a group of Russian inspectors have conducted an observation flight over Greece.

State of the Nation: Historic US–Israel Rift: Obama Leaks Israeli Nuke Violation Doc Before Bibi Visit

The Obama Administration has radically departed from the traditional U.S. relationship with Israel during this second term. Such a sea change in attitude by the American government augurs great changes on the horizon, both for the Middle East and the world.

It appears that this may be one of the ‘higher purposes’ of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He has so polarized the Israelis, the American people, and various camps throughout the Mideast that many now understand the status quo can no longer be maintained. Netanyahu has forced the Palestinian plight onto the entire community of nations.

Nuclear Specter Returns: "Threat of War Is Higher Than In The Cold War"

he Ukraine crisis has dramatically worsened relations between NATO and Russia. With cooperation on nuclear security now suspended and the lack of a "red telephone," experts at the Munich Security Conference warn any escalation in tensions could grow deadly.

The scientists had no idea that their experiment could spell the end of civilization. On Jan. 25, 1995, Norwegian and American researchers fired a rocket into the skies of northwestern Norway to study the Northern Lights. But the four-stage rocket flew directly through the same corridor that American Minuteman III missiles, equipped with nuclear warheads, would use to travel from the United States to Moscow.

US Confirmed Existence of Israeli H-Bomb Program in 1987

The 1987 report’s confirmation of Israel’s advanced nuclear weapons program should have immediately triggered a cutoff in all U.S. aid to Israel under the Symington and Glenn Amendments to the US Foreign Assistance Act of 1961. Although 100 copies of the tightly-controlled report were apparently published, none seem to have made their way into the office of the President in time to cut off any of the $82 billion in aid subsequently delivered to Israel – or publicly issue the required waivers.

Obama, what about Israel’s nuclear arsenal?

A Washington-based think-tank, the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy (IRmep) recently painted a different, and more appealing, picture. A “special report” written by its director, Grant F. Smith, focused on a lawsuit that it has filed challenging “US ‘ambiguity’ towards Israel’s nuclear arsenal”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember Obama's first Press Conference as President? Helen Thomas came right out and asked Obama what nations in the Middle East have nuclear weapons.

Obama did not answer that question, and the next day Helen Thomas, a long time fixture in the White House Press Corps, was gone!

Undeterred by the prison sentence, she has been continuing her activism from behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, according to a report by NPR, dedicating some of her time in custody to her fellow inmates.

Russia Deploys Nuclear ICBM Launchers On Combat Patrol

Perhaps it is a coincidence that a day before John Kerry's arrival in Kiev (a visit which "coincided" with a 35% devaluation of the local currency) where among other things the US statesman discussed the possibility of official (as opposed to unofficial) deliveries of US "lethal support" to the civil war torn and now hyperinflation country, that Russia decided to put its nuclear ICBMs on combat patrol missions in various Russian regions. Specifically, according to Tass, "About 700 units of military equipment, including launchers are deployed in the positioning areas in the Tver, Ivanovo, Kirov, Irkutsk regions, as well as in Altai Territory and the Mari El republic."

U.S.-Russia Clash in Ukraine?

Among Cold War presidents, from Truman to Bush I, there was an unwritten rule: Do not challenge Moscow in its Central and Eastern Europe sphere of influence.

In crises over Berlin in 1948 and 1961, the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and the Warsaw Pact invasion of Prague in 1968, U.S. forces in Europe stayed in their barracks.

We saw the Elbe as Moscow’s red line, and they saw it as ours.

While Reagan sent weapons to anti-Communist rebels in Angola, Nicaragua and Afghanistan, to the heroic Poles of Gdansk he sent only mimeograph machines.

That Cold War caution and prudence may be at an end.

Biological weapons in the World Wars

Although there is no documented evidence of any other use of biological weapons in World War II, both sides had active research and development (R&D) programs. The Japanese use of biological warfare agents against the Chinese led to an American decision to undertake biological warfare research in order to understand better how to defend against the threat and provide, if necessary, a retaliatory capability. The United Kingdom, Germany, and the Soviet Union had similar R&D programs during World War II, but only Japan has been proved to have used such weapons in the war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Funny how only the losers in a war are ever suspected of or proven to have used such weapons.

Russia’s Nuclear Weapons Upgraded, U.S. Missile Defense Can’t Stop Them, Claim Russians

Both the Russian and U.S. military continue to stoke World War 3 fears, with a Russian deputy prime minister now claiming that Russia’s nuclear weapons cannot be stopped by U.S. missile defense systems in the event the new Cold War becomes hot.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And he is correct. The US missile defense system is built around the doctrine of inbound threats following predictable ballistic arcs. But both Russia and China now have maneuverable warheads and upper stages that make such interception impossible.

Helen Caldicott Foundation

The US and Russia possess 93% of the world’s approximately 16,300 nuclear weapons. While about 6,300 await dismantlement around the world, 4000 are operationally available. An estimated 1800 remain on high alert, ready to launch on short notice. The US nuclear fleet rests not only at 12 sites in 11 US states, but also at 6 sites in 5 different European countries. Russia is more opaque about the locations of its nuclear weapons but is estimated to have permanent storage at 40 locations within the country.
