Angry Jewish settlers rampage in West Bank

Jewish settlers rampaged in the West Bank on Monday, wounding four Palestinians, as they vented fury that Israel may answer US calls and dismantle outposts in the territory, officials said.

Jewish extremists blocked roads, hurled rocks at drivers, burned fields, cut down olive trees and opened fire towards Palestinians who tried to chase the trespassers from their fields in the northern West Bank, witnesses said.

Class of ’09: You’re Screwed

Like Pericles, your parents inherited a dollar; they leave you a peso. They took over the strongest, richest, most competitive nation in the world. And like Pericles they minded everyone’s business but their own. Now, not only does the US owe money all over town, its government puts out trillions more in IOUs every year – each one with your name on it. You’re not even out in the real world yet, and you’re getting the bill for 50 cents of every dollar the feds spend – almost none of it earmarked for you. But that is the thing about the real world your teachers probably forgot to tell you about. It is more unreal and fantastical than anything you studied.

The rise in long-term treasury rates (the increased interest the government has to pay investors to entice them into buying them) is driving up mortgage rates, and will have many detrimental effects on the economy.

Banks run Congress, top Democrat says

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that the banking and financial services industry has an outsized influence in Congress.

Wells Fargo, Citigroup and JP Morgan Chase each got bailouts of $25 billion in government bailouts last year. Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs got $10 billion apiece. And AIG, the mammoth insurer that lost billions in bad derivatives bets, has sucked in more than $170 billion.

Canada's leaders swoon over Israel

Have you hugged a Jew today?

Couldn't hurt, on any day, given some worrisome trends in Canada – though less here than in Europe – to demonize both Jews and Israel, particularly via the rubric of anti-Zionism, which anybody with half a brain recognizes for what it is: The same old anti-Semitism tarted up in sleazy pedantic finery.

War Is Sin

The crisis faced by combat veterans returning from war is not simply a profound struggle with trauma and alienation. It is often, for those who can slice through the suffering to self-awareness, an existential crisis. War exposes the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves. It rips open the hypocrisy of our religions and secular institutions. Those who return from war have learned something which is often incomprehensible to those who have stayed home. We are not a virtuous nation. God and fate have not blessed us above others. Victory is not assured. War is neither glorious nor noble. And we carry within us the capacity for evil we ascribe to those we fight.

Obama’s new war doctrine: ‘Cyber dominance’

The US military is moving ahead with plans to create its first “cyber command” designed to bolster America’s potential to wage digital warfare as well as defend against mounting cyber threats, officials said on Friday.

After President Barack Obama announced Friday his plans to overhaul cyber security policy, Defense Secretary Robert Gates was expected to soon formally propose the new cyber command that will be overseen by a four-star officer, Pentagon officials told AFP.

The move reflects a shift in military strategy with “cyber dominance” now part of US war doctrine and growing alarm over the perceived threat posed by digital espionage coming from China, Russia and elsewhere.

Cybersecurity Is Framework For Total Government Regulation & Control Of Our Lives

he Obama administration’s new Cybersecurity system will only make the Internet more vulnerable to attack, while creating the framework for a massively upgraded government surveillance grid that will control and regulate every aspect of our daily lives through the implementation of “smart” technology.

Obama’s announcement of the new cybersecurity grid dovetails with a recently introduced Senate bill, the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, that would hand the president the power to shut down the entire Internet in the event of a “cybersecurity” crisis.

In Pakistan, an exodus that is beyond biblical

The language was already biblical; now the scale of what is happening matches it. The exodus of people forced from their homes in Pakistan's Swat Valley and elsewhere in the country's north-west may be as high as 2.4 million, aid officials say. Around the world, only a handful of war-spoiled countries – Sudan, Iraq, Colombia – have larger numbers of internal refugees. The speed of the displacement at its height – up to 85,000 people a day – was matched only during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. This is now one of the biggest sudden refugee crises the world has ever seen.

Odious debt

In international law, odious debt is a legal theory which holds that the national debt incurred by a regime for purposes that do not serve the best interests of the nation, such as wars of aggression, should not be enforceable. Such debts are thus considered by this doctrine to be personal debts of the regime that [are] incurred [by]them and not debts of the state. In some respects, the concept is analogous to the invalidity of contracts signed under coercion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under this principle, We The People are not liable for the costs of the wars of aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq and Somalia; indeed pretty much every war since WW2.

Nor are we liable for the $12.8 trillion spent on the bailouts, since these funds did not benefit the public, but only the banks and brokerages.

It has been removed from maps and airbrushed from aerial photographs. But Facility 1391 certainly exists - you just have to ask the Palestinians and Lebanese who have been imprisoned and tortured there.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obviously, not erased from EVERY map!

UK forces taught torture methods

The sexual humiliation of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison was not an invention of maverick guards, but part of a system of ill-treatment and degradation used by special forces soldiers that is now being disseminated among ordinary troops and contractors who do not know what they are doing, according to British military sources.

The techniques devised in the system, called R2I - resistance to interrogation - match the crude exploitation and abuse of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib jail in Baghdad.

One former British special forces officer who returned last week from Iraq, said: "It was clear from discussions with US private contractors in Iraq that the prison guards were using R2I techniques, but they didn't know what they were doing."

FLASHBACK - Secret Service agents say Cheney was drunk when he shot lawyer

Agents observed several members of the hunting party, including the Vice President, consuming alcohol before and during the hunting expedition, the report notes, and Cheney exhibited "visible signs" of impairment, including slurred speech and erratic actions, the report said.
According to those who have read the report and talked with others present at the outing, Cheney was drunk when he gunned down his friend and the day-and-a-half delay in allowing Texas law enforcement officials on the ranch where the shooting occurred gave all members of the hunting party time to sober up.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Cheney should have been in jail for that crime alone!

When God Spoke to Me

Jacque Chirac became almost adamant in his conviction regarding the true beliefs of the president Bush and the nature of his character. He is not mistaken anymore. The man is dangerous. He is an irrational leader who wrongly believes in his messianic vision, and worse of all, intrinsic ability to decrypt the scriptures. His reading of current events epitomized the nature of his irrational thoughts and destructive instincts: Symbol of the antichrist, a transnational Islamist army is threatening the West, i.e., the main ally of the chosen people and September 11 terrorist attacks are the precursory proof [...]

Man Killed in Mexican Crash Is Indeed Iran-Contra Figure

The Israeli Embassy, confirming that the man killed in a plane crash on Wednesday was Amiram Nir, a figure in the Iran-contra scandal, said today that Mr. Nir was not on ''any official business'' in Mexico.

Mr. Nir was an adviser to two Israeli Prime Ministers, and he was said to have played the role of intermediary in the sale of United States arms to Iran. The Mexican police and a spokeswoman for the airline whose plane crashed also positively identified the victim as Mr. Nir.

Mr. Nir was killed Wednesday while traveling under an assumed name, Pat Weber. As a counterterrorism adviser to Israel, he once briefed Vice President Bush on secret arms sales to Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Interesting how hard the Israeli embassy is working to distance themselves from this man!

Israeli ministers: No West Bank settlement freeze

Senior members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet reiterated Sunday that the government has rejected a U.S. demand to halt all activity in West Bank settlements, despite strongly-worded demands from the Obama administration to do so.

"I want to make it clear that the current Israeli government will not accept in any way the freezing of legal settlement activity in Judea and Samaria [West Bank," Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz told Army Radio.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ummm, isn't it ALL illegal activity in occupied territory?

Rabbinical Court's exit ban forces US man to divorce wife

In a groundbreaking ruling, the Tel Aviv Rabbinical Court had the final say this week in the divorce case of a Jewish American couple that has dragged on for six years, as the husband has refused to grant his wife a get (Jewish divorce).

After three nights in jail and a ban preventing him from leaving the country, however, the wanton husband - who is not an Israeli citizen - finally succumbed to the demands of the Rabbinic Court Administration (RCA) and agreed to free his wife from their marriage. It was the first time that Israel's religious court system has ever flexed its muscles in a case involving Jews from abroad.

The great carbon credit con: Why are we paying the Third World to poison its environment?

In the fields around this giant chemicals factory in Gujarat, the barren soil smells of paint stripper and the water from the well makes you gag. So why has it been given tens of millions of pounds of taxpayer-funded UN ‘green reward points’, which are traded hungrily on the financial markets at huge profit?

Webmaster's Commentary:

GFL is part of a worldwide carbon-trading scheme, and again, the concept was not thought all the way through.

Yes, GFL has reduced its carbon emissions to qualify for the financial benefits. But the low carbon processes they are using produce other, far deadlier pollutants that are poisoning the local farm lands and water. Because the carbon trading scheme is concerned only with carbon (and money) the holistic reality of even greater damage being done is ignored.

US Won’t Accept North Korea as a Nuclear State

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said today that the US “will not stand idly by as North Korea builds the capability to wreak destruction on any target in the region — or on us.” He also urged a unified international response to what he characterized as an unhelpful series of tests.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And, SecDef Gates, just what can we do about North Korea?

Need I remind you who North Korea's number-one trading partner is, China?!?!?

We have absolutely no bargaining chips here, unless we can persuade China to lend one big hand in leading Kim Jong-Il to the bargaining table, replace the armistice with a permanent peace treaty, and allow for trade, educational, and cultural exchange with North Korea.

We have managed to normalize our relationship with Vietnam; why not North Korea?

US treasury secretary visits China

The visit comes as the US struggles to get out of recession and finds itself heavily dependent on loans from China to finance its budget deficits.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If Geithner comes home empty-handed in terms of China refusing to finance more of the US budget deficits, this could get really ugly.

Chinese economists deem huge holding of US bonds "risky," split on way out

On the first day of U.S. treasury secretary Timothy Geithner's visit to China, the Beijing-based Global Times published a survey of 23 famous Chinese economists on Sunday, saying that the majority of them deemed the vast holding of U.S. bonds "risky."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, these 17 out of 23 people are absolutely right.

And there is very little Geithner can say to reassure China, looking at the economic conditions of the US right now, and for the near future.

Leap in U.S. debt hits taxpayers with 12% more red ink

Taxpayers are on the hook for an extra $55,000 a household to cover rising federal commitments made just in the past year for retirement benefits, the national debt and other government promises, a USA TODAY analysis shows.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And how much of this is for these wars without end?!?!?

Are those a part of "other government promises", or have these costs been left out of this equation??

This article seems to be putting the blame for families' economic burdens on social security, medicare, and retirement programs for military and civil servants' pensions.

Lincoln issued his famous greenbacks to fund the Civil War without enslaving the American people to the 30% interest demanded by the bankers. Lincoln refused to plunge the people of the nation into a debt they could never pay back, and issued his own currency instead.

“... (we) gave the people of this Republic the greatest blessing they have ever had – their own paper money to pay their own debts...”

The bankers understood the threat a government-issued currency represented to their wealth and power. The London Times wrote of Lincoln's move...

Obama Justice Department Continues Bush's 'State Secrets' Argument...Again

In a court filing submitted in the middle of the night, President Obama's Justice Department is continuing the "state secrets" argument of his predecessor in litigation over the National Security Agency's Terrorist Surveillance Program.

In the middle of the night the Justice Department filed its response in the court case, telling a federal judge, who has ordered it to disclose information in the case, that Justice is still asserting the state secrets privilege.

"The Government has merely declined voluntarily to agree to a protective order that would, in the Government's view, require disclosures that would irretrievably compromise important national security interests," the Justice Department filing said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This reeks.

The more the alleged "Justice Department" is allowed to get away with this, the more they will indulge in this kind of behavior, exponentially.

'Obama's decrees are like Pharaoh's'

"The American demand to prevent natural growth is unreasonable, and brings to mind Pharaoh who said: Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river," Science Minister and Habayit Hayehudi head Daniel Herschkowitz said Sunday, referring to US President Barack Obama's demand to freeze all settlement activity, even that ensuing from natural growth.

Speaking ahead of the weekly cabinet meeting, mathematician Herschkowitz furthered his point with a simple equation. "If there is a family that expands from one child to four or five, what should we tell them - to ship the children off to Petah Tikva? This is an unacceptable demand, even if it comes from the Americans, and Israel should reject it decisively," he affirmed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to President Obama: stop signing the checks, and stop military aid immediately, if you are serious about Israel not expanding the growth of its illegal settlements in Palestinian territory. And be very vocal about why the aid has stopped.

This guy has just spat in your face, and told you it's raining.

It's time that you (and this country) don't tolerate this kind of behavior from Israel anymore.

Arnold's Cuts Would Make California "Unrecognizable," Nearly All Target Poor Residents

“Government doesn’t provide services to rich people,” Mike Genest, the state’s finance director, said on a conference call with reporters on Friday. “It doesn’t even really provide services to the middle class.” He added: “You have to cut where the money is.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh, yeah?!?

What about tax breaks for the wealthy and major corporations?!?

As reported in:

"One of the aspects of the political economy of last 30 years has been tax cuts for the wealthy. This ensured that government was starved of revenue in the bad times, and unable to catch up, not to mention get ahead by providing adequate services and saving for a rainy day in the good times.

California has been the poster child for this. Since 1978 we have steadily excluded wealth from taxation. Since 1993 we have given $12 billion in tax cuts and tax breaks. Corporate taxes were around 9% in 1981 and are now below 5%, yet corporations have provided neither wage growth nor stable jobs to the state, and our core services are underfunded.

As a result the poorest among us now bear the largest share of the tax burden. The lowest 20% income brackets pay 11.7% of their income in state and local taxes, whereas the top 4% pay only 7.1% of their income. The result is that lower income Californians have a higher tax burden - but get less in return for those taxes. Our income tax is also flawed in that there is only one bracket for people making between $47,500 and $999,999."

If you don't find that this qualifies as "services" for the very wealthy, I don't know what does.

Geithner Sees Signs That US Economy Is Stabilizing

Geithner told reporters traveling with him Beijing that there are a number of signs the U.S. economy is beginning to stabilize. The U.S. has been mired in its longest recession since World War II.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Signs?!?!? WHAT signs, please?!?

How many actual Americans has he talked to who have lost their higher paying jobs to companies overseas, who are working twice the hours for nearly half the money and can barely make ends meet?!?

Are these signs some sort of heavenly vision (read: psychological disturbance) which enables him to prattle and preen about what a magnificent job he's done as Treasury Secretary?

Hearing this statement from this man just gives me the overwhelming urge to stockpile everything of use and value which might be needed if things here collapse completely.

As a side note, the Titanic finally stabilized ... after it hit the bottom.

Iraq's Kurdish region to export oil for first time

Iraq's self-ruled Kurdish region will begin exporting crude oil for the first time on June 1, piping up to 90,000 bpd to its neighbours in a landmark step for the area, officials said on Sunday.

"Piping of the oil will start Monday morning from the Taq Taq field, pumping it from seven wells," said Mohammed Okotan, director of the Taq Taq project for Turkey's Genel Enerji, which is partnered with Calgary-based Addax Petroleum.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember the lies we were being fed about how the oil revenues from Iraq would pay for the costs of the war??

Take a good look at who the partners are on this deal; a Turkish company, and a Canadian company, with not one American company in sight.

Demand that Obama Actually Fix the Economy By Taking the Power to Create Money Away from Private Bankers

Ellen Brown - trial attorney and the author of the book Web of Debt - has launched an initiative to urge Obama to save the economy by taking the power to create money away from the bankers, and give it back to the government as the Founding Fathers intended.

Brown's ideas have been endorsed by many very smart and independent financial experts.

Click here and vote Brown's proposal up.

This is a brief introduction to Brown's idea. See this for more information.
