Cruel, but Necessary

With all the current rhetoric out of Washington regarding an Israeli settlement freeze in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, we wanted to gauge public opinion on the streets of Jerusalem on a sunny, Sunday afternoon last weekend. What we found was shocking but unsurprising. The ease with which most Americans and Israelis, young and old, spouted racist and uncompromising comments about Arabs, settlements and Israeli conduct was a raw manifestation of the barriers to the peace process.

Just Knowing Is Not Enough

"The United States administration, previous administration, the European governments, the whole official international community has been complicit with Israeli crimes, war crimes in Gaza and in other places, and silent about forty-one years of occupation. So, basically, people in Israel think they can do what they want. If they violate human rights in such a terrible manner and nobody is objecting, I think they think they can move forward towards racism and an apartheid system, and that is unfortunately the case today.

U.S. stops giving militant death tolls in Afghanistan

U.S. military officials in Afghanistan have halted the practice of releasing the number of militants killed in fighting with American-led forces as part of an overall strategy shift that emphasizes concern for the local civilian population's well-being rather than hunting insurgent groups.

The change is part of the focus on making the Afghan population feel "safer" and comes as U.S. commanders are taking new steps to avoid civilian casualties.

The changes come as the Obama administration is adjusting the U.S. role in Afghanistan. A troop buildup is expected to boost the number of U.S. military personnel in the country to 68,000 by year's end.

Authorities arrest 44 in N.J. corruption case

A two-year corruption and international money-laundering investigation stretching from the New Jersey shore to Brooklyn to Israel and Switzerland culminated in charges against 44 people yesterday, including three New Jersey mayors, two state assemblymen, and five rabbis, authorities said.

Much of the cash came from Israel, where a man arrested as part of the inquiry yesterday said he obtained the money from a Swiss banker, prosecutors said. Another man in Brooklyn, Levy-Izhak Rosenbaum, was accused of enticing vulnerable people to give up a kidney for $10,000 and then selling the organ for $160,000.

More Polished Than the Last Puppet

I was never so much into giving Obama a “chance” and I think it’s way past time to call Obama and his supporters out, like we called Bush and his supporters out. Our Presidents are merely puppets for the Robber Class and Obama is no exception.

Besides foreign policy where he is a complete disaster, it appears Obama’s jobs program is little more than adding tens of thousands of troops to an already bloated military, instead of bringing troops home from anywhere. Billions will go to the money trap of the Pentagon to invest in recruiting, where the budgets of peace groups who do counter recruitment are tanking.

Poll: Majority in US Oppose Both Wars

A new AP-GfK poll released today shows a majority of Americans opposed to the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. The numbers also reveal growing concern that the president will be able to meet his goals, particularly in Iraq.

The Iraq War was opposed 63-34, while the slightly more popular Afghan War was opposed 53-44. Both numbers split strongly along party lines, with roughly two thirds of Republican supporting each war. Only 10 percent of Democrats support the Iraq War while only 26 support the Afghan War, which has been the foreign policy centerpiece for the Obama Administration.

How California Could Turn Its IOUs into Dollars

When the state's appeal for aid was rejected by the banks, California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer said he was "disappointed." He and other state leaders should show their disappointment with their feet. California could pull its deposits out of those depository banks refusing its IOUs and put them instead in its own state-owned bank, following the lead of North Dakota, which now has the only state-owned bank in the country. Set up in 1919 to escape Wall Street predators, the Bank of North Dakota has been generating low-interest credit for the state and its residents for nearly a century. North Dakota is one of only two states (along with Montana) currently able to meet their budgets.

FLASHBACK - Israeli doctors experimented on children

A leading Israeli doctor and medical ethicist has called for the prosecution of doctors responsible for thousands of unauthorised and often illegal experiments on small children and geriatric and psychiatric patients in Israeli hospitals.

An investigation by the government watchdog, the state comptroller, has revealed that researchers in 10 public hospitals administered drugs, carried out unauthorised genetic testing or undertook painful surgery on patients unable to give informed consent or without obtaining health ministry approval.

Obamacare Means an End to Liberty and Freedom

It may seem silly, but the singular fact about freedom is that having it means you have the God given right to ruin your own health without government saying you can’t, or standing in your way to get the medical care you need to fix your own mess. Obamacare, however, will both tell you how to live (taking away your freedom) as well as withhold from you the medical care you need to fix yourself. In fact, by its very nature, government healthcare has to end up that way.

WARNING: Adobe Acrobat, Flash and Reader Zero Day Vulnerability

Adobe has issued a security advisory following the discovery of what it describes as a "critical vulnerability" which exists within the current versions of Flash Player (v9.0.159.0 and v10.0.22.87) across all platforms, Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems, The same vulnerability can be found within the authplay.dll component that ships with Adobe Reader and Acrobat v9.x for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems and has the potential to cause a crash which could then allow an attacker to take control of the system. Well, I say potential, but Adobe admits that there are "reports that this vulnerability is being actively exploited in the wild via limited, targeted attacks against Adobe Reader v9 on Windows".

It's called Apophis. It's 390m wide. And it could hit Earth in 31 years' time

In Egyptian myth, Apophis was the ancient spirit of evil and destruction, a demon that was determined to plunge the world into eternal darkness.

A fitting name, astronomers reasoned, for a menace now hurtling towards Earth from outerspace. Scientists are monitoring the progress of a 390-metre wide asteroid discovered last year that is potentially on a collision course with the planet, and are imploring governments to decide on a strategy for dealing with it.

Nasa has estimated that an impact from Apophis, which has an outside chance of hitting the Earth in 2036, would release more than 100,000 times the energy released in the nuclear blast over Hiroshima.

FLASHBACK - Israeli organ traffickers shift operations to China

An Israeli organ trafficking ring which was smashed in South Africa last year has shifted its operations to China, according to a report in the New York Times. A 52-year-old Tel Aviv man, Ilan Peri, is alleged to have organised at least 100 kidney transplants for Israelis. The Times profiled the case of an American woman from Brooklyn and a Brazilian man from the impoverished city of Recife in Durban. She paid brokers US$60,000 (a special discount because of family ties) and he received $6,000 from them. The operation was performed at St Augustine's Hospital in Durban. This is owned by a private health care chain, Netcare, which boasts that it aims "to uphold South Africa's reputation as 'the transplant capital of the world'".

The latest US State Department report on trafficked persons http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/123362.pdf, released on 16 June, says Israel is still a destination for men and women trafficked for forced labour and sexual exploitation.

Women from the former Soviet Union and China are still being trafficked across the border with Egypt into Israel for forced prostitution by organized criminal groups.

According to local NGOs, such as Isha L'iash and Moked, each year several hundred women in Israel - many of them foreigners - are trafficked within the country for commercial sexual exploitation, according to the report.

Israel Kills Palestinian Boys, Steals Organs For Transplants

The Zionist state has tacitly admitted that doctors at the Israeli forensic institute at Abu Kabir had extracted the vital organs of three Palestinian teenage children killed by the Israeli Army nearly ten days ago.

Zionist Minister of Health Nessim Dahhan said in response to a question by Arab member of the Zionist Parliament 'Knesset', Ahmed Teibi, on Tuesday that he couldn't deny that organs of Palestinian youths and children killed by the Israeli forces were taken out for transplants or scientific research.

"I couldn't say for sure that something like that (taking out the organs) didn't happen."

Jul 23 13:24

The organ of last resort

Israel has recently become something of a pariah in the transplant world. Without a strong culture of organ donation and under the pressure of angry transplant candidates, the Ministry of Health has refused to crack down on the country’s multi-million dollar business in transplant tourism that arranges junkets from dialysis clinics in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to medical centres in Europe and the United States.
“Why should we Israelis be made to travel to third world clinics to get the kidneys we need to survive from the bodies of peasants, soldiers, or guest workers who may be in worse physical shape than ourselves?” a 71-year-old “kidney buyer” from Tel Aviv asked me rhetorically. “Organs should be seen as a human, not as a national resource.”

NJ official steps down amid corruption arrests

The mayors of three New Jersey cities, two state legislators and several rabbis were among more than 40 people arrested Thursday in a sweeping corruption investigation that began as a probe into an international money laundering ring that trafficked in goods as diverse as human organs and fake designer handbags.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the investigation initially focused, with the help of the cooperating witness, on the money laundering network that operated between Brooklyn, Deal, N.J. and Israel. The network is alleged to have laundered tens of millions of dollars through charities controlled by rabbis in New York and New Jersey.

What are Obama’s investments in biotech companies apparently developing the “bird” and “swine” flu vaccine?

George W. Bush announced the International Partnership on Avian and Pandemic Influenza at the United Nations General Assembly on September 14, 2005, placing the US under UN and WHO law in the event of a pandemic “emergency”.

'Hitler' gnome acquitted

A visitor to the gallery objected and lodged a complaint that Hoerl had violated German laws prohibiting the reproduction of Nazi symbols or slogans. News of the "Nazi gnome" promptly went around the world.

The prosecutors in Nuremberg said they would not put Hoerl on trial because he was obviously mocking the Nazis, not honouring them, and had made the gnomes as art. Gnomes used to be popular as garden decorations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One of the problems with these "visitors" is that they forget that they ARE just visitors and being allowed through the front door does not grant a right to decide for everyone else present what they should and should not see.

I had the same problem with my first mother-in-law, who would come over to visit my first wife and I then proceed to lecture us about how the place would look so much better with this or that artsy item placed just so and how certain items from my family really ought to go, etc. I finally told her to her face that she was a guest in my home, a welcome guest, but still a guest and that decisions on decor were reserved to my wife and myself. From the look of outrage on the mother-in-law's face you would have thought I just relieved myself on her coat; she was THAT sure that it was her right to go into other peoples' homes and offer her recommendations on how things should be. I guess that was part of that unshakable sense of entitlement and superiority that she was raised with.

WHEN REMEMBERING IS NOT ENOUGH? ~~ INTERVIEW WITH HEDY EPSTEIN

This Free Gaza video is an interview with a great woman, Hedy Epstein, just turned 85. She has dedicated her life to working for peace and human rights. In June she was going to sail to Gaza with the other 21 volunteers on board the Spirit of Humanity. But she was attacked just days before she was to leave for Cyprus. She was walking home, when she was thrown on the ground, cutting both knees and gashing her chin. She talks to us from her home in St. Louis, Missouri.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The motivation for this attack was pretty clear; from Israel's perspective, having an elderly Jewish peace activist as part of the "Spirit of Humanity" team, bound for Gaza, would be an extreme embarrassment.

So she was attacked, conveniently, just in time to keep her off the boat.

But what whoever orchestrated this attack should have known was, this wasn't going to keep Hedy from talking, and getting heard, internationally.

Gaza blockade: ?We are captive and slowly suffocating?

An already difficult situation following 40 years of occupation became significantly worse in June 2007 when Israel imposed a severe blockade following the takeover of Gaza by Hamas.

The objective indicators are sobering. Even before the recent war nearly 80 percent of Gaza residents were living below the official poverty line, less that $2.30 per day, according to the World Bank.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why it is so critically important to support any humanitarian aid going to Gaza, and letting the Israeli government know, in no uncertain terms, that not allowing the aid through is making them look like a bunch of knuckleheads.

First steps taken to implement preventive detention, military commissions

From this interim report, it's more apparent than ever that the central excuse made by Obama defenders to justify preventive detention and military commissions -- there are dangerous Terrorists who cannot be released but also cannot be tried because Bush obtained the evidence against them via torture -- is an absolute myth. That's clear for multiple reasons:

First, the Task Force is formulating detention policy not only for detainees already at Guantanamo, but also for future, not-yet-abducted detainees as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This country is already on a very wobbly slippery slope by its government having embraced and institutionalized these policies

And if you think for one hot second that this will only apply to "foreign terrorists", you need to think again. It won't be long before Americans who have disagreements with their government will be candidates for indefinite detention as well.

Obama Escalates Afghanistan Quagmire

It could be argued that the single biggest contributor to President Barack Obama’s election victory was voter dissatisfaction with former President Bush’s neoconservative warmongering foreign policy (which was embraced by Republican presidential candidate John McCain). Ironically, since taking office, Obama has turned out to be eerily similar in the warmongering department.

One has to wonder how long it will take the American public to wake up from their mainstream media-induced slumber to recognize that the man sold to them as a peace candidate is turning out to be just as bad of a warmonger, if not worse, than his much-maligned predecessor.

Senate Votes for ‘Temporary’ Army Increase of 30,000

The vote appears to be little more than a rubber stamp approving an announcement by Defense Secretary Robert Gates about his intention to increase the military by at least 22,000.

However this bill makes no provision for funding the increase, but rather will leave the Obama Administration facing yet another “emergency funding” bill, like the one they fought through earlier this year. During the campaign President Obama condemned the Bush Administration for using emergency funding to pay for the wars, and promised after submitting the previous one that it would be their last.

Webmaster's Commentary:

But its significance shouldn't be underestimated: in Kurdish minds, the region's ability to refine the oil it pumps is a vital step toward deepening its autonomy from the Arab-majority remainder of Iraq.

Clinton Vows ‘Crippling Action’ if Iran Becomes Nuclear

Following a growing trend in the Obama Administration, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today presented the US claim that Iran is developing a nuclear weapon as an absolute fact, as opposed to speculation for which even the IAEA concedes no evidence exists.

During the interview on Thai television today, Clinton warned Iran that “once they have a nuclear weapon” they won’t actually be any safer, because the US intends to take “crippling action” against them, including dramatically improviding the military capacity of US allies in the Gulf, presumably referring to Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Crippling action"?!?!?

A memo to SoS HRC: our options here are very limited.

We're not going to get more traction in the UN, because Russia will veto.

Russia is Iran's 7th largest trading partner.

Yes, the US and Israel might, in fact, bomb the crap out of Iran's power station.

However, Russia has been warning the US and Israel that a military attack against Iran will lead to World War III.

War with Russia, anyone?!?

Thought not.

Mind running through those "crippling actions" again, Secretary Clinton?

Jul 23 09:08

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS STUFF?

If Iran needs to be invaded, and occupied, to prevent them from ever developing and possibly using a nuclear weapon against the mainland United States, then our parents and grandparents wasted untold trillions in producing nuclear weapons and submarines to defend against just such a threat.

And we want our money back.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Relinked in light of the obvious renewed propaganda effort to sell us a war in Iran.

Middle East atomic conflict would kill tens of millions: report

It's the nightmare that haunts the modern Middle East --Iran succeeds in its quest for nuclear weapons and goes to war with Israel, causing massive human casualties and destruction on a demonic scale that in turn could trigger a worldwide economic collapse.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is more war propaganda.

Why would Iran attack Israel? Iran is not in the habit of invading other countries and has not done so for the last 200 years.

Israel, on the other hand, constantly attacks and steals land from everyone around it. Israel already HAS nuclear weapons. Israel's chief enabler both in the land grabs and the WMDs is the United States; the only nation on Earth to actually use nuclear weapons of mass destruction against the civilians of another country.

And the people trying to convince you that Iran is a threat requiring preemptive war (an idea pioneered by Hitler) are the same folks who promised you Saddam had 'nookular' bombs.

Fool me once ...

U.S. envoy told: Pakistan drone strikes not working

Controversial unmanned aircraft strikes against targets in Pakistan's restive tribal region are not working, the country's prime minister has told the Obama administration's point man for the region.

"Continued drone attacks in FATA have proved counterproductive and have seriously impeded Pakistan's efforts towards rooting out militancy and terrorism from that area," Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani told Ambassador Richard Holbrooke on Wednesday, according to a press release from Gilani's office about their meeting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Pakistani Prime Minister Gilani; just because this indiscriminate bombing isn't working, and is turning large numbers of the Pakistani population against its government, is no reason to believe for one second that the US will stop doing it.

It appears that this campaign has been orchestrated to create more chaos and misery in Pakistan, under cover of "liquidating the insurgents".

The US is looking for some excuse - any excuse - to "save a nuclear armed Pakistan from itself."

What we are seeing here is simply the beginning of that process.

Palestinian arrested after testifying in Geneva

Palestinian sources reported Wednesday that a resident of the West Bank village of Naalin was arrested upon returning from Geneva, where he testified before a UN committee charged with investigating the IDF offensive in Gaza earlier this year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This man was arrested for his perceived "crime" by the Israelis of telling the truth about what happened during the Gaza offensive.

This arrest and detention is also calculated to have a chilling effect on any other Palestinian who would dare tell the truth to an international fact-finding body.

U.S. Rebuffs U.N. Requests for Guantanamo Visits, Data on CIA Prisons

The Obama administration has declined requests from U.N. human rights investigators for information on secret prisons and for private interviews with inmates at the U.S. military detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, U.N. officials said, dampening their hopes of greater U.S. cooperation on human rights issues.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the US had absolutely nothing to hide, from a standpoint of human rights, and how we are compelled under the Geneva Accords to treat prisoners of war, this would be a non-issue.

Unfortunately, by institutionalizing torture, the US has, for all practical intents and purposes, withdrawn from any human rights accords to which we have ever been a signatory.

This means that any American military or civilian personnel captured by any hostile forces can expect no better treatment than we have given prisoners of war at Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo.

Iran can rejoice as Israel fails missile defense test

Despite attempts by the operators of the Arrow missile defense system in Israel to portray Wednesday night's aborted test as "a partial success," in reality it was nothing less than a resounding failure. The fact that the interceptor missile failed to launch in the direction of the target is damning proof that the test failed.

Overall, the goal of the test is not to assess various data systems that could be checked without launching the missile, but to launch the interceptor missile at the oncoming target.

The Death Penalty for a Hate-Crime?

How Have LGBT Groups Reacted to the Matthew Shepard Act Amendments?
Not well. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) groups have decried the addition of the death penalty. The American Civil Liberties Union have perhaps said it best through Christopher Anders, ACLU Senior Legislative Counsel, when noting:

"The expansion of the federal death penalty stands in stark contrast to furthering the cause of civil rights in the United States"

Big Pharma Bribes Doctors to Hook Your Kids on Drugs

The pharmaceutical-industrial complex has virtually annexed the mental health profession, whose all-star opportunist team is captained by Harvard psychiatrist Joseph Biederman, the high-profile doctor most responsible for the explosion of kids on psychiatric drugs, first for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and then for bipolar disorder.

In 2008, Biederman was nailed by Congressional investigators for taking $1.6 million from drug makers from 2000 to 2007 and failing to report most of this loot to his university, a major conflict of interest in violation of the rules.

House passes measure to require 'pay-as-you-go'

By itself, pay-go does nothing to address the government's deficit woes. The deficit for the current year is estimated to top $1.8 trillion, and the Congressional Budget Office projects unsustainable deficits over the coming decade. The pay-go measure wouldn't force lawmakers to find the courage to actually do anything to stanch the flow of red ink; it instead seeks to prevent lawmakers from making it even worse.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We could stop these major military misadventures which have been funded through borrowing from countries like China, which holds an extraordinary amount of US paper. That would certainly help.

Of course, that would be logical.

Mayors, rabbis arrested in corruption probe

The source described the alleged public corruption as "straight bribery" -- cash-filled envelopes exchanged for political influence. It involves local and state Democrats.

The other investigation centered on a group of rabbis who allegedly laundered tens of millions of dollars through their religious organizations for a fee, according to the source.

Webmaster's Commentary:

UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal is referring to the arrested rabbis as "religious leaders."

I wonder if they would have been as circumspect had the arrested money launderers been Imams!

Botched Surgery Costs Airman His Legs, Possibly His Job

Family members say during that procedure a two-year resident performing the surgery nicked a heart valve, shutting off blood to Colton's lower body. Doctors had to amputate both legs, but his gall bladder is still intact. Relatives tell FOX40 the military surgeon overseeing the procedure is now taking responsibility for the mistake.

Morgan Stanley sets aside 72% of revenue to pay bonuses

Morgan Stanley is setting aside a huge sum to pay out bonuses despite posting its third consecutive quarterly loss and admitting it is disappointed with key departments.

The US bank's latest results show it is allocating $3.9bn (£2.36bn) for paying out to staff, 72% of its net revenues. That dwarfs the percentage of revenue set aside by arch rival Goldman Sachs, where workers are on track for large bonuses after record results last week.

Clinton trades jibes with 'no friends' North Korea

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday that North Korea had "no friends left" to defend it from nuclear sanctions, triggering vitriolic defiance from the Stalinist regime.

Pyongyang hurled invective at "schoolgirl" Clinton and declared disarmament talks dead, as she told Asia's largest security forum that international efforts to squeeze the North over its atomic programme were paying off.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to SoS HRC: North Korea is a client state of China, which is its largest trading partner, just in case you had managed to forget that.

Call me silly, but I would consider that a very powerful friend at this time for North Korea.

North Korea appears to think that it doesn't have to go back to the negotiating table at this point, and apparently it is not getting a great deal of pressure from China to do so.

Unfortunately, the US gave both North Korea and the world a magnificent object-lesson in what happens to a country which doesn't have a nuclear deterrent capability with the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.

ABOUT THAT PHOTO OF HITLER AND THE MUFTI!

Israel is using the photo to imply that Palestinians are Nazis andf more specifically, that Israel has a right to demolish the Shepherd Hotel. Israel's position is that they have a right to demolish the Shepherd Hotel because it was once owned by the Mufti, who was buddy-buddy with Hitler.

But this is a dangerous allusion to engage in!

US Escalates War Plans In Latin America

On June 29 US President Barack Obama hosted his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe at the White House and weeks later it was announced that the Pentagon plans to deploy troops to five air and naval bases in Colombia, the largest recipient of American military assistance in Latin America and the third largest in the world, having received over $5 billion from the Pentagon since the launching of Plan Colombia nine years ago.

Six months before the Obama-Uribe meeting outgoing US President George W. Bush bestowed the US's highest civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom, on Uribe as well as on former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

The US Has No Business Being in the Murder Business

The new CIA director, Leon Panetta, has just informed the US Congress he canceled a secret operation to assassinate al-Qaida leaders. Panetta said the campaign was authorized soon after 9/11 by the Bush White House, but had not yet become operational in 2009.

I respect Panetta, but his claim is not credible. The US has been trying to kill al-Qaida personnel (real and imagined) since the Clinton administration. These efforts continue today under President Barack Obama.

Does Panetta mean that CIA and its masters in the White House sat on their hands and delayed this CIA project to kill senior al-Qaida cadres for eight long years? Sounds unbelievable. It also sounds illegal.

The Myth of Fed Independence

Mr. Chairman, at a time when we find ourselves once again receiving a report on the Federal Reserve's conduct of monetary policy, it is more important than ever that we in the Congress push for more effective oversight and transparency of the Federal Reserve System. FLU IS NOT THE BIGGEST DANGER ... IT'S THE VACCINE

The word 'evil' is much overused and I don't say it lightly; but we are dealing with evil in the sense that the word is the reverse of 'live'. Those behind the conspiracy to cull the human population and turn the rest into little more than computer terminals are anti-life. They have no respect for it and no empathy with those who suffer the consequences of their actions, no matter how appalling.

I have been warning of what was coming for nearly 20 years and it is not 'coming' any more - it's here. No more excuses from anyone, please. We have to deal with it. We have to draw a line in the sand and say no more.

Medical Insurance that Worked — Until Government “Fixed” It

The response of the medical establishment, both in America and in Britain, was one of outrage; the institution of lodge practice was denounced in harsh language and apocalyptic tones. Such low fees, many doctors charged, were bankrupting the medical profession. Moreover, many saw it as a blow to the dignity of the profession that trained physicians should be eagerly bidding for the chance to serve as the hirelings of lower-class tradesmen. It was particularly detestable that such uneducated and socially inferior people should be permitted to set fees for the physicians' services, or to sit in judgment on professionals to determine whether their services had been satisfactory. The government, they demanded, must do something.

And so it did.

NEVER Believe Uncorroborated Police Testimony

Simply put: Gangs and governments do exactly the same things, but the latter immunizes its agents from punishment. This explains why government enforcement agents — better known as police — so frequently engage in blatantly criminal behavior.

Whenever police commit criminal acts against innocent people, they do so in the serene confidence that their uncorroborated testimony about the incident will be accepted by judges, and most juries, as the truth.

Congo Rapes, Violence Linked To Multinational Companies: Rights Group

The militarization of mining in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is prolonging the armed conflict which has been tearing the country apart for more than 12 years.

In their broader struggle to seize economic, political and military power, all the main warring parties have carried out the most horrific human rights abuses, including widespread killings of unarmed civilians, rape, torture and looting, recruitment of child soldiers to fight in their ranks, and forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. The lure of eastern Congo's mineral riches is one of the factors spurring them on.
