'GFC-level terrible': Australian retail drops into recession

The Australian economy has been dealt another blow with a leading business survey declaring the retail sector is "clearly in recession".

The data from major bank NAB comes a week after the Reserve Bank was forced to cut interest rates to its lowest level in history and Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed the economy had slowed to its weakest level since the global financial crisis in 2009.

In figures released today, the NAB index of business conditions dropped two points in May, leaving it well below the long-run average.

Speaking on the NAB Economics podcast, NAB group chief economist Alan Oster agreed with the proposition that the Australian retail sector was now "GFC-level terrible".

More U.S. millennials subscribe to video games than traditional pay TV: survey

About 53% of people born between 1983 and 1996 now pay for gaming services, versus 51% who pay for television, according to a survey from the accounting and professional services firm Deloitte.

That is compared with Deloitte’s survey last year, in which paid subscriptions among millennials were 44% for video games and 52% for television.

Paid television through cable, satellite or fiber - for instance Comcast Corp’s Xfinity, Dish Network Corp or AT&T Inc’s U-verse TV - has been challenged by changing viewer habits, particularly the rise of direct-to-consumer streaming services.

At the same time, video games and e-sports have soared in popularity, giving rise to an industry of competitive professional and amateur games watched in person and online by fans, alongside more casual gaming on mobile phones.

A computer virus has thrown Philadelphia’s court system into chaos

Since May 21st, a virus has shut down Philadelphia’s online court system, bringing network access to a standstill. The problems started unexpectedly: suddenly, no one could seem to access the system to file documents. “It wasn’t working,” says Rachel Gallegos, a senior staff attorney with the civil legal aid organization Community Legal Services. “I thought it was my computer.”

As Baltimore deals with a devastating malware attack, the Philadelphia court shutdown is raising similar questions about how cities can respond when crucial services are suddenly lost. The outage has now stretched on for weeks, forcing attorneys to use paperwork filed in person and raising difficult questions about who is slipping through the cracks of the broken system.

Radiohead Get Hacked for Ransom, Release All Stolen Material to Donate to Climate Change Protests

Experimental rock band Radiohead has released 18 hours of material that was stolen from lead singer Thom Yorke's archived MiniDiscs by an unknown hacker.

The group announced on its social media platforms today that the archive—consisting mostly of unfinished music and clips from the mid-90s—had been stolen last week. The hacker, or hackers, demanded $150,000 to keep it from being released to the public, Radiohead said.

In response, the band decided not only to ignore the ransom demand but release the entire trove of music to Bandcamp in aid of Extinction Rebellion, the new climate change movement.

Facebook quietly kills off advanced search tool that helped investigators track down war criminals and child predators as critics warn decision could be a 'disaster' for human rights

Facebook has raised the ire of human rights advocates and investigators after it killed off advanced features of a search tool used to surface information on posts, users and other elements of the social media site.

The tool, called Graph, is open to any of the site's users and allows people to search all of Facebook's public data using a set of highly granular filters.

Graph's abilities include finding posts by a user that fall within a certain date range, identifying users who like a specific page and live in a specific city, or surfacing places users have visited as recorded by their check-ins and tags.

But key aspects of Graph, like being able to search videos to find a specific user, were suddenly taken down late last week, Vice reported, citing sources close to the situation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Color me completely unsurprised by this development; it is completely consistent with Facebook's deplatforming/dedollarization of conservative, or alternative, thought which does not conform to the current governmental narrative.

'An embarrassment to the country': Tearful Jon Stewart's excoriating attack on DC lawmakers after only FIVE turn up to hear 9/11 victims plead for their fund to be renewed earned the comedian a standing ovation

Comedian Jon Stewart lashed out at Congress on Tuesday for failing to ensure that a victims' compensation fund set up after the 9/11 attacks never runs out of money - as just five members out of 14 turned up to hear the victim's appeal for more support.

Stewart, a longtime advocate for 9/11 responders, called out lawmakers for failing to attend a hearing on a bill to ensure the fund can pay benefits for the next 70 years.

The Zadroga Act pledged in 2015 to extend medical coverage until 2090 but now thanks to a rapidly dwindling kitty will fall short, which prompted Stewart and a host of victims' families to appeal for greater funding.

Pointing to rows of empty seats at a house subcommittee hearing room, an angry Stewart, 56, said that 'sick and dying' first responders and their families came to Washington for the hearing, only to face a nearly deserted dais.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Jon, both this little family of 2, and WRH, absolutely stand with you on this issue.

Man who transitioned into a woman, then into a diaper-wearing baby to “correct my life,” proves that transgenders need HELP, not affirmation

Consider 21-year-old “Camille” Lola, a self-identifying “transgender” who after his “conversion” came to the realization that he still isn’t happy or content, which prompted him to “convert” again into a diaper-wearing “baby.”

According to reports, the Switzerland native decided to become a “baby” upon realizing that he wasn’t actually a “woman” inside a man’s body, but rather a deeply broken individual who experienced serious trauma when he was a child, and now wants to “correct my life” by reliving his earliest years.

Presumably at the prompting of his “affirming friends,” Camille decided that the best course of action early on was to deny his biological existence and pretend to be the opposite sex, which didn’t work. So he’s now trying another form of role-playing that, like his first attempt, will also be unsuccessful.

The New York Times has stopped publishing political cartoons over a month after experiencing heavy backlash over a controversial cartoon featuring a blind President Donald Trump led by a seeing-eye PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Complaining about the "moralistic mobs" that "gather on social media and rise like a storm," cartoonist Pat Chappatte – who did not draw the offending cartoon – nevertheless slammed the image as something "that should never have run in the best newspaper of the world," blunting his message with the suggestion that he sympathized with the outrage mobs in this case.

George Soros ‘Purchases’ Local Elections to Push for ‘Radical Agenda’ ? US Attorney

George Soros, 88, is known for his investments in pro-migrant groups and broader globalist agenda. One of his most recent endeavours is a criminal justice reform drive in the United States, in which he has thrown his weight behind progressive candidates in several district attorney elections.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has ripped into American-Hungarian investor and liberal philanthropist George Soros, accusing him of using his wealth to quietly “remake” American society.

George Soros was reported to have ploughed over $3 million into district-attorney campaigns in several states in 2016, supporting progressive candidates who would back a criminal justice reform.

“Once elected, these candidates have ended cash bail, treated felonies as misdemeanours and sometimes ignored some crimes entirely,” Carlson said.

Will China win the military AI race on the back of commercial technology?

The earliest weapons were dual-use technologies: rocks chipped into sharp edges and bound to arrows or spears or clubs that proved as useful for hunting as they did fighting.

Modern life is millennia removed from proto-ethical debates over the dangers of collaborating on hunting technology with people who may someday turn it to violence, but dual-use tools are at the center of a major inter- and intra-national debate. The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission held a hearing June 7 about China and technology, specifically the ways in which developments in the civilian sector could be exploited and weaponized by China’s military.

“China has been hyped as an AI superpower poised to overtake the U.S. in the strategic technology domain of AI,” said Jeffrey Ding, China lead for the Center for the Governance of AI, Future of Humanity Institute, University of Oxford; D.Phil. Candidate, University of Oxford.

Can artificial intelligence improve aerial dogfighting?

Artificial intelligence is meeting its next match: aerial dogfighting.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency wants to automate air-to-air combat, which would free pilots to concentrate on the larger air battle creating a human-machine team.

DARPA created the Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program to take on this project. While agency leaders acknowledge aerial dogfighting will be a less frequent occurrence in the future, the program centers on creating pilot trust in AI dogfighting.

Where is the investment in AI oversight, asks inspector general?

As artificial intelligence becomes a priority for national security, the Intelligence Community must ensure that it invests in proper oversight, the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community said.

“Maintaining American leadership in AI and shaping the global evolution of AI in a manner consistent with our nation’s values, policies, and priorities have become national security issues,” Inspector General of the Intelligence Community Michael K. Atkinson stated in his semi-annual report to Congress. “For intelligence oversight authorities to remain effective, there will need to be sufficient focus on and investments in oversight of AI in the Intelligence Community. “

For Atkinson, the lack of investments being directed toward developing oversight for AI usage is a major concern.

BREAKING: Facebook banned Natural News for “off-platform” article that Natural News never posted to Facebook

Just days after being banned and deleted by Facebook, Natural News has now learned that Facebook banned Natural News because of an opinion article that Natural News never posted to Facebook. The article in question — "LGBT progressivism horrors" — warned against children being physically and chemically disfigured by parents pushing an LGBT indoctrination agenda onto their own children.

Facebook now says the existence of this article is the reason Natural News was de-platformed from Facebook. This means Facebook is banning channels for "off-platform" content.

It’s also an admission that Natural News did nothing to violate any community guidelines or terms of service with Facebook. Quite the opposite, in fact: The Natural News social media team followed a strict procedure of self-censorship all through 2019, meaning no articles about LGBT topics were posted to the Natural News channel on Facebook.

It’s time to stop pretending that “mainstream media” reporters are real journalists: They are Left-wing political activists and journo-terrorists

The news profession has been trending to the Left for decades now, but in the age of Obama and POTUS Donald Trump, reporters have increasingly eschewed their journalistic credentials in favor of donning their Left-wing political activist caps.

One of the most recent examples involves April Glaser, a Slate correspondent serving as an operative for the Democratic Party under the guise of being a ‘news’ reporter.

As noted by indy journalist Tim Pool and reported by Information Liberation, Glaser not-so-covertly threatened Chase Bank recently with negative press if the institution did not act to deplatform Right-leaning activist group Proud Boys.

Pool was leaked an email in which Glaser allegedly wrote:

Weird 'Anomaly' at the Moon's South Pole May Be a Metal Asteroid's Grave

There's something very weird, and very dense, under the surface of the moon's South Pole-Aitken basin, new research suggests.

That unexpectedly massive patch may represent the buried remains of an asteroid that crashed into the moon's surface and formed that basin in the first place. That new hypothesis is based on data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) and Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter missions. When the scientists combined the two types of data, they saw a mismatch between the surface topography and the gravitational tug of the moon.

"Imagine taking a pile of metal five times larger than the Big Island of Hawaii and burying it underground," study lead author Peter B. James, a geoscientist at Baylor University in Texas, said in a statement. "That's roughly how much unexpected mass we detected."

At least 25 people have been killed in aerial bombardment carried out by Russian jet fighters in Idlib region, with schools and medical centres knocked down during a continued Syrian military offensive.

The rebel stronghold of northwestern Syria despite being part of a buffer-zone deal has come under deadly regime bombardment in recent weeks, sparking fears for its roughly three million residents.

At least 13 people were killed, including women and children, after Russian Sukhoi jets dropped bombs on the village of Jabala in southern Idlib province, residents and civil rescuers told Reuters news agency.

Russian jets were also behind several raids that hit the town of Khan Sheikhoun, Kafr Battikh and several other villages that left at least another 12 civilians dead, according to another local rescuer.

JUDAISM ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

“Do you think Judaism will ever recover from having been hijacked by Zionism?” a friend recently asked me.

I have wrestled with a similar question for many years: how can the ethical precepts of Judaism—pursue justice, love your neighbor, love the stranger, repair the world—be reconciled with Zionism? Any Judaism I can believe in is at odds with this nationalist ideology, which claims that only a state controlled by Jews and privileging them over non-Jews can protect them against anti-Semitism and the threat of another Holocaust.

I did not always realize this. When I was growing up in Tokyo, Japan, in the 1950s, I thought Judaism consisted only of rituals performed with Hebrew prayers and allegiance to the newly established state of Israel. Our small Jewish community, made up mainly of Ashkenazi emigres from Siberia like my father’s family and of Sephardi emigres from Syria and Lebanon, together with Israeli Embassy staff and American businesspeople, did not have a rabbi.

The FBI Tragedy: Elites above the Law

One of the media and beltway orthodoxies we constantly hear is that just a few bad apples under James Comey at the FBI explain why so many FBI elites have been fired, resigned, reassigned, demoted, or retired — or just left for unexplained reasons. The list is long and includes director James Comey himself, deputy director Andrew McCabe, counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok, attorney Lisa Page, chief of staff James Rybicki, general counsel James Baker, assistant director for public affairs Mike Kortan, Comey’s special assistant Josh Campbell, executive assistant director James Turgal, assistant director for office of congressional affairs Greg Bower, executive assistant director Michael Steinbach, and executive assistant director John Giacalone. In short, in about every growing scandal of the past two years — FISA, illegal leaking, spying on a presidential candidate, lying under oath, obstructing justice — someone in the FBI is involved.

Nearly 1,700 Suspected Child Sex Predators Arrested During Operation “Broken Heart”

The Department of Justice today announced the arrest of almost 1,700 suspected online child sex offenders during a two-month, nationwide operation conducted by Internet Crimes Against Children task forces. The task forces identified 308 offenders who either produced child pornography or committed child sexual abuse, and 357 children who suffered recent, ongoing or historical sexual abuse or were exploited in the production of child pornography.

The 61 ICAC task forces, located in all 50 states and comprised of more than 4,500 federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, led the coordinated operation known as “Broken Heart” during the months of April and May 2019. During the course of the operation, the task forces investigated more than 18,500 complaints of technology-facilitated crimes targeting children and delivered more than 2,150 presentations on internet safety to over 201,000 youth and adults.

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE – WHITE HELMETS, “BANA AL-ABED” AND KILLING “EVIL RUSSIANS”

Since the formal defeat of ISIS’ self-proclaimed caliphate and so-called “moderate rebels” in most of Syria, the Middle Eastern country, has largely disappeared from the front-pages of mainstream media outlets. Nonetheless, the narrative management operation to distort the real situation in the war-torn country and demonize the Damascus government and its allies fighting foreign-backed radical militant groups continues.

The upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is an obvious example of the scale and spread of this campaign. The official trailer for the new part of the franchise features “heroic actions” of the White Helmets, “big bad Russians” bombing civilians and a kid in a gas mask apparently signaling the expected usage of “Assad’s chemical weapons” mantra in the story-telling.

SAUDI TEEN FACES EXECUTION, CRUCIFIXION FOR TAKING PART IN PROTEST AT AGE 10

A teenager who has been imprisoned by the Saudi Arabian government for nearly 5 years is facing execution for taking part in a protest that happened 8 years ago when he was just 10 years old. Murtaja Qureiris was initially arrested when he was 13 years old, 3 years after an Arab Spring related protest that he took part in.

He has spent at least 15 months of his 5 years in prison isolated in solitary confinement.

The Saudi government has charged him with engaging in anti-government protests, possession of a firearm and they also allege that he was affiliated with a terrorist organization. A boy that was only ten years old at the time is accused of being a gun-wielding terrorist, and now they want to torture and kill him, then mutilate his body.

The prosecutor in the case has recommended that after the now 18-year-old young man is killed, his body should be dismembered, or crucified.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please: if one of your BFFs in the Middle East, the Butcher of Yemen, Mohammed bin Salman, is about to sign off on an execution of this boy, for crimes (most likely coerced under torture) this kid did at the age of 10, will you not, please, try to intervene here?!? After all, you do have the Prince's ear right now, as the US is thoroughly, and completely complicit in his genocide in Yemen.

Or, sir, is the part of his "luster" for you, that he can have people mercilessly tortured and killed, with absolutely no repercussions, for "crimes" they may well not have actually committed, but confessed to, in order to get the torture to stop?

I have come to the very dark conclusion, Mr. President, that this may well be true. The power to kill with impunity, coupled with this Prince's great wealth, are what draws you to him, like a moth to a flame.

But sir, I would very strongly, peacefully, and logically caution you, that this flame can be most dangerous.

Hundreds of Illegal Immigrants from Congo and Angola Dropped Off in San Antonio

For those of you following along on the Congolese migrant influx in San Antonio, this is what made air on Thursday. A lengthier write-up including the struggles Catholic Charities is facing can be found here: https://www.kens5.com/article/news/local/parle-francais-city-searches-... …@KENS5 #kens5eyewitness

Roughly 350 migrants from the Congo are expected to arrive in San Antonio in the coming days leaving the city scrambling for French-speaking volunteers.

“We didn’t get a heads up,” Interim Assistant City Manager Dr. Collen Bridger told KEN 5 on Thursday.

Bridger said the Congolese migrants began to arrive in town on Tuesday. They told Migrant Resource Center workers, they traveled with a group of about 350 migrants through Ecuador to the southern border.

Webmaster's Commentary:

NORTH KOREAN LEADER'S ASSASSINATED HALF-BROTHER WAS A CIA INFORMANT: WSJ

SOURCE: ZEROHEDGE

The half brother of North Korea's Kim Jong Un - who was assassinated in Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia in February 2017, when two women smeared his face with the nerve agent VX - was an informant for the Central Intelligence Agency and met with agency operatives on several occasions, Wall Street Journal reports, citing a person who knew about the matter.

Kim Jong Nam was once considered to be the heir to late North Korean leader Kim Jong Il but he fell out of favor with his father in 2001 after he was caught trying to enter Japan on a false passport, and was arrested at Tokyo airport, apparently en route to Disneyland. Kim Jong Nam had been critical of Kim Jong Un, reportedly saying in 2012 that he “won’t last long” because of his youth and inexperience. The two brothers have different mothers, Bloomberg reports.

Webmaster's Commentary:

LOCAL BAKERY WINS $11 MILLION AFTER OBERLIN COLLEGE STUDENTS LABELED IT 'RACIST'

But in the heady modern political climate, Oberlin is known less for helping ferry runaway slaves to freedom in Canada, and more for an activist community that has condemned cafeteria food offerings as racist (because they're not authentic), questioned the value of teaching the western canon and pushed the necessity of safe spaces. One black female professor provoked a controversy in 2016 after she was fired for making incendiary statements like blaming Israel for 9/11. Soon, the school's black student union was condemning the school as an "unethical institution" and demanding that the professor be given tenure.

But while these incidents may have tarnished the school's reputation, reinforcing its reputation as a bastion of over-privileged trust-funders, the college will now face a very real cost after losing a legal battle with a local bakery that has been a pillar of the downtown business community since it opened more than 100 years ago, according to the Washington Post.

PROSECUTORS CRACK DOWN ON CLERGY ABUSE AS BISHOPS GATHER

SOURCE: APNEWS.COM
DETROIT (AP) — Hundreds of boxes. Millions of records. From Michigan to New Mexico this month, attorneys general are sifting through files on clergy sex abuse, seized through search warrants and subpoenas at dozens of archdioceses.

They’re looking to prosecute, and not just priests. If the boxes lining the hallways of Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s offices contain enough evidence, she said, she is considering using state racketeering laws usually reserved for organized crime. Prosecutors in Michigan are even volunteering on weekends to get through all the documents as quickly as possible.

For decades, leaders of the Roman Catholic Church were largely left to police their own. But now, as American bishops gather for a conference to confront the reignited sex-abuse crisis this week, they’re facing the most scrutiny ever from secular law enforcement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

THIS time, the Catholic Church needs to acknowledge that they have an institutional illness, called child abuse.

When you deny clerics their very sexuality, which was, BTW, NOT a tenant , or article of faith by the early church, but came after a series of scandals involving mistresses, etc., and put them into a position of power, particularly over impressionable kids, this crud... will, and does happen.

And to Pope Francis; your institution is just on the keening edge, of being sued out of existence.

So how do you solve it?!? Retract the oath of celibacy, and look for young men, with wives and kids, who will contribute to the whole of the church's future.

Because, sir, if you do NOT do this, and now, you are setting up the church for a fall from grace, and away from public good will, beyond what you can possibly imagine.

You are welcome, Your Holiness!!!

Tens of thousands of images stolen in US border hack

Images of tens of thousands of people crossing the US border with Mexico have been stolen in a major hack, the US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) has said.

It said fewer than 100,000 people were affected based on "initial reports".

It also contradicted claims that image data had been shared on the dark web.
