Oil prices plunge below zero, sending stocks lower

This is really bad. A total collapse of oil prices.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices plunged below zero on Monday as demand for energy collapses amid the coronavirus pandemic and traders don’t want to get stuck owning crude with nowhere to store it.

Militants Surrendered to Syrian Army Say Were Trained on US Military Base - Russian Military

The once great green berets training terrorists. This has been known for quite awhile.

The surrendered militants said that US instructors had been preparing them for terrorist acts and sabotage at oil and gas and transport facilities, according to the information provided by the Russian military's centre for the Syrian reconciliation.

A group of 27 militants who surrendered to the Syrian army said they had been trained at the US military base, Rear Adm. Oleg Zhuravlev, the head of the Russian Defence Ministry's centre for the Syrian reconciliation, said during a briefing on Wednesday.

The US also provided them with weapons and vehicles, he added.

The US Space Command issued an announcement Wednesday, claiming it had knowledge that Russia had reportedly conducted a test for a direct-ascent anti-satellite (DA-ASAT) missile.

"Russia's DA-ASAT test provides yet another example that the threats to US and allied space systems are real, serious and growing," Gen. John W. Raymond, commander of US Space Command and chief of space operations for the US Space Force, said in a statement accompanying the alert.

"The United States is ready and committed to deterring aggression and defending the Nation, our allies, and US interests from hostile acts in space."

Meanwhile, WW3 May Be Brewing While We're Distracted

Authored by Brandon Tourbeville via The Organic Prepper blog,

Those who are paying close attention to the pandemic may have missed that another potential killer is brewing across the ocean. In Syria today, there is the real and looming threat of a third world war. Not only is Syria fighting Western-backed terrorists on its territory, there are many more players involved on Syrian soil – from the Russians and Iranians to the Americans, Turks, and Israelis and, with the recent Turkish actions, all of those players could very well come to blows.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would strongly hope that Russia's Putin can disabuse Trump of the notion that a war right now would be "good for business", and get him another cycle in the White House; the possibilities for an accidentally started, major fire fight in Syria grows exponentially stronger by the day.

US Flexes Military Might Near Russian Forces In Provocative F-35 Flight Over Syria

Via AlMasdarNews.com,

The U.S. military flew their new F-35 stealth jet over Syria’s skies this past week, as they display their strength in front of the Russian Armed Forces who are only a few kilometers away from the American troops in the eastern Euphrates region.

In a tweet on Monday, the Special Ops Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) in Syria and Iraq released three photos showing the F-35 above Syria, likely in the Al-Hasakah or Deir Ezzor governorates.

“A USAF F-35A Lightning II fighter jet flies near the ATG in Syria, April 10, 2020. Coalition and partner forces continue to strike at extremist organizations in Syria despite COVID-19, reflecting the world-wide unity to see an enduring defeat delivered against Daesh,” the U.S. military account posted.

The three photos showed up close and far away shots of the F-35A as it flew over the skies of eastern Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are there still Foggy Bottomites who sincerely believe that a war with Russia over Syria, is a "good thing" with which to "misdirect" the attention of the American people, between Covid 19 and the economic collapse of this country?!?!?

Russian President Vladimir Putin has compared medics treating patients suffering from coronavirus to the military fighting on the frontlines, as he announced salary increments for them amounting to up to over $1,000.

All medical staff involved in combating the deadly coronavirus outbreak in Russia will be given a pay rise, including doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers. The measure is expected to stay in force for at least three months.

“They are working selflessly, as one team,” the president said, as he hailed the efforts taken by the medics to help those suffering from the disease.

PEPE ESCOBAR: Who Profits from the Pandemic? April 8, 2020

You don’t need to read Michel Foucault’s work on biopolitics to understand that neoliberalism – in deep crisis since at least 2008 – is a control/governing technique in which surveillance capitalism is deeply embedded.

But now, with the world-system collapsing at breathtaking speed, neoliberalism is at a loss to deal with the next stage of dystopia, ever present in our hyper-connected angst: global mass unemployment.

We Catch The German Press Manufacturing The Anti-Russian News.

There we were, reading the transcript of NATO GenSec Stoltenburg’s pre-meeting presser

Then, after he had said what he wanted to say, Stoltenberg took questions via Skype and WhatsApp. Eventually, Teri Schultz from Deutsche Welle asked:

“do Allies have some responsibility in allowing Russia and China to have used that space early, to make these claims about NATO responsibility and effectiveness and the other disinformation that’s being put out right now?”

Apparently disappointed that Jens had not slammed Russia and China yet. No joy. In his reply, at some length, he did not so much as mention Russa! And Jens’ answer left the German press unsatisfied.

NATO’s nemeses Russia & China help its member-states amid Covid-19 pandemic FAR MORE than the alliance itself

NATO, struggling to justify its existence, has found a new role for itself — as an indefatigable fighter against the Covid-19 pandemic. But so far, it has contributed significantly less to this fight than its supposed rivals.
During a NATO foreign ministers meeting, held earlier this month by secure video conference, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg declared, “NATO was created to deal with crises. So we can help and our Alliance is playing its part.” NATO was on the case. But what exactly was it doing? Here Stoltenberg became vague: NATO would apparently offer “logistical, transport and medical help” to member-states fighting the pandemic.

Russia and China have of course been providing “logistical, transport and medical help” all over the world for weeks, but NATO makes it sound as if it alone is doing anything, and rushes to take credit for aid that in reality has nothing to do with the alliance.

'Russian Threat' on Hold as Battle With COVID-19 Sets New Priorities for NATO, West

As the world is battling the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s alleged threat seems to be put on hold by NATO and the West and is no longer viewed as imminent, experts said, noting that the common fight against the virus may improve – at least at the time of the pandemic - ties between the sides.

The coronavirus outbreak, which has so far claimed over 60,000 lives and left over 1 million people infected across the globe in less than four months, has shown that the biggest menace to mankind is not some country but a tiny virus. Thus, Russia is now becoming less a "threat" for NATO and the Western world in the current security environment, according to Iztok Prezelj, the chair of Defence Studies and a member of Defence Research Centre at the University of Ljubljana.

"Security policy simply is about prioritization of threats and responses, it is impossible to focus on e.g. 5 threats at the same time", Prezelj said.

Has The US Cold War Shifted From Russia To China?

Starting in the Obama administration the U.S. increased its full spectrum dominance campaign against Russia as an extension of its goals to destabilize the entire Middle East.

Russia’s intervention into the war in Syria after the so-called Arab Spring across North Africa emerged over an eighteen month period as the demarcation line between the unipolar moment of U.S. hegemony and the beginning of the multi-polar world now well underway.

From the moment President Putin brokered an agreement to halt the U.S. invasion of Syria over the chemical weapons attack blamed on Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad Putin has been the main focus of U.S. foreign policy.

That focus has shifted now.

Nord Stream 2 Project: Russian Pipe-Laying Ship Reportedly on Its Way to Spanish Port

In December 2019, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that the use of the vessel Akademik Cherskiy remains one of several options to wrap up the Nord Stream 2 project, but that it will take time to prepare the ship to implement the mission.

The Gazprom-owned pipe-laying vessel Akademik Cherskiy is currently on her way to the Spanish port of Las Palmas, the ship-tracking websites Marine Traffic and Vesselfinder reported on Monday.

According to them, the ship, which left the Russian port of Nakhodka on 10 February, is due reach its destination on 18 April.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said in December that the Cherskiy may be used to wrap up the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

How disinformation really works: Activists linked to pro-NATO think tank smear Russian Covid-19 aid to Italy

With over 11,000 deaths and more than 100,000 cases of Covid-19, Italy is currently a country which feels under siege. But this is no impediment to the think tank racket twisting an offer of support for its propaganda purposes.

Here's what happened. The weekend before last, Vladimir Putin called Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. During the conversation, Conte asked for help, in fighting coronavirus, according to the Kremlin readout which hasn't been contradicted by Italian officials.

Let's be clear from the outset, there was undoubtably a strong PR, as well as practical, element to Russia's assistance. However, there were also advantages to Rome from this approach, as the move may have helped to concentrate a few minds among its traditional allies.

Is US readying itself to re-invade and occupy Iraq?

By Robert Inlakesh

In the wake of the great escalation of January 2020, ultimately resulting in the retreat of United States forces, situated across Iraq, down to a few key bases around Baghdad that now come under regular rocket attack by local anti-occupation resistance groups, American strategic planners are confronted with only two choices: leave Iraq or launch a full-scale shock attack operation in the country's west and subsequent occupation of the area to regain the strategic initiative.

The US finds itself in its current position in Iraq, for the first time since the North Korean army invasion of South Korea in 1950 - an event which nearly threw American troops, at Pusan, into the sea and forced them to fight a protracted defense.

For a military force whose historical doctrine has been to 'attack, attack, attack', America’s current position in Iraq is terribly awkward and uncharacteristic of the usual predicament of total superiority it generally finds itself in.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Inlakesh puts together a brilliant, and thoughtful, scenario here; but there is a question which remains unasked in this article: should the US do this,
what will Russia do, in light of the fact that one of its chief politicians, told his Iranian counterpart last summer, that if Iran is attacked by the US, it will not stand alone.

Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

This came out in the English language edition of the Moscow times on 26 June, 2019; why do I seem to be the only person still standing who remembers this being said?!??

This.... is literally the 5,000 lb polar bear, lounging on the Bosendorfer Baby Grand, on this issue.

But there is one thing that Inlakesh got absolutely correctly; this has to happen before the US end of the Covid-19 shut-down, which is, at this moment, is set for Friday, 1 May, 2020; this gives the Federal Government 30 days to either retreat entirely from Iraq, or use it, and Saudi Arabia, as the bases from which to ultimately attack Iran.

I am an American who cares greatly about this country, and the future trajectory of both its domestic and foreign policies. I care greatly about our men and women in uniform, so I am respectfully asking the civilian government in the US to use both restraint, and wisdom, in their deployment here.

A war with Russia over Iran?!?

There is nothing Israel's Netanyahu would love to see happen more than this.

But if there were any possible scenario which could create at something perceivedly good for Israel, but which would be card-carryingly horrible for We the People, I can hardly think of a worse one than this one could create.

And before I end this post, Mr. President, would you please have someone break the following down for you, in digestible format, and that would be the following.

'But Sir, It’s an American Ship.' 'Never Mind, Hit Her!' When Israel Attacked USS Liberty

Mr. President, with "friends" like this......?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm just saying.

US Deploys Patriot Missiles in Iraq Bases Hosting US Troops

Recent US fighting with Iraqi militias has seen bases in the country hosting US troops coming under rocket fire, and this has led to the US trying to get more Patriot missiles into Iraq to intercept such rockets. The first missile systems are now set up, at Ayn al-Assad base, and in Irbil.

The US appears to be trying to move away from having troops scattered around Iraq, closing multiple bases in the west, and reportedly has missiles in Kuwait ready to be sent to two more US bases inside Iraq in the days to come.

Details on the diplomacy with Iraq on these deployments are unclear. The US has talked about wanting the missiles in Iraq since January, but it has never been confirmed that Iraq signed off on such deployment. Since the deployment is roughly intended to thwart attacks by Iraqi paramilitaries who are essentially part of Iraq’s security forces, this is potentially problematic for Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One wonders, with all the Covid-19 "smoke screens" going on in this country, if this generally ignored deployment is intended to start a land war with Iran, even though it is reeling from its own issues with Covid 19.

US Repositions Troops in Iraq, Preparing for Fight Against Iran

Initially announced weeks ago, the US withdrawal of troops from western Iraq and concentration in the east looks more and more like preparation for another confrontation with neighboring Iran. Recent reports suggest that is one policy being advocated.

On Friday, reports suggested that the Pentagon had been ordered, by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to start planning to wipe out certain Iraqi militias which they believe are Iranian proxies. Officials say the administration is increasingly divided on the plan.

Lt. Gen. Robert White was very averse to this idea, saying it would require the US bring in thousands of more troops, and divert from existing missions. He also warned it risks starting a war with Iran, which at least some of the proponents consider very much the point.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please!!!

Just a thought, sir; what will the optics look like in November if we wage a full-fledged war against Iran, a war in which Russia has already promised to participate on Iran's side?!?

Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

Your problem with your perspective on Iran is, that you can only see its geopolitics through the rather jaundiced and horrifically prejudicial, "vision" of one of your BFFs in the Middle East, specifically, that of one Israeli Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu.

And Mr. President, please don't think for a millisecond, that there are not elements of the Israeli government which are, as I type this, conjuring up all kinds of scenarios as the "perfect false flag" with which to "sucker in" the American government to fight Iran, and consequently, Russia.

And sir, if you doubt me for even a second, please re-acquaint yourself with the real history of the USS Liberty incident in 1967:

'But Sir, It’s an American Ship.' 'Never Mind, Hit Her!' When Israel Attacked USS Liberty

With "friends" like this, Mr. President...........?!?!?!?!?!?

US Plans to Transfer Cargo to Syrian Militants Disguised as Aid for Refugees - Russian Military

he Rukban camp, which houses up to 25,000 refugees is located in the US-controlled zone around its unauthorised military base at Al-Tanf, making it almost impossible for humanitarian workers to access the area.

"The American side cynically seeks to take advantage of the situation concerning the spread of the coronavirus and is putting pressure on the UN leadership to bring 'humanitarian aid' to the Rukban refugee camp under the guise of diagnostic tools to feed controlled militants", the interagency coordinating headquarters of Russia and Syria said in a joint statement on Saturday.

The military stressed that the disastrous situation in the camp is a result of the illegal occupation of the area by American forces, noting that the refugees should be returned to their homes in the territory under the control of the Syrian government.

In what collective, twisted minds in the Bowels of Power in this country, does this even make sense?!?

Russia To Close All Borders Monday After Banning International Flights

Though official numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases out of Russia have remained comparatively low to other large countries, there's alarming signals coming out of the country of some 150 million people that authorities understand the true numbers to in reality be much higher.

Russia will “temporarily” initiate a complete shutdown of its borders staring Monday in order to curb the pandemic, impacting all automobile, railway, pedestrian and river checkpoints along all Russian border points.

The total border closure looks to be among the most comprehensive measures any country has yet taken to halt the spread of the virus, even as China has belatedly closed its borders to all foreign passport-holders this week.

Rosneft Abruptly Exits Venezuela, Sells Assets To Russian State, Amid US Squeeze On Maduro

In the past weeks the Kremlin has shown it's willing to punch back as well as take drastic necessary defensive action in the face of Washington sanctions at a moment America is preoccupied and made more vulnerable by the coronavirus threat — first by dumping OPEC+ and MbS, effectively declaring war on US shale — and now by taking aggressive measures to insulate Russia's state-controlled Rosneft.

On Saturday Rosneft announced it has sold off all its Venezuelan oil assets to an unnamed Russian state entity. "The government of the Russian Federation has acquired assets in Venezuela from Rosneft. A company 100% owned by the Russian Federation has become the owner," Russia's TASS said.

Moscow Surrenders to Coronavirus as Humiliated Russians Ordered to Take Fake 1-Week “Holiday”

MOSCOW – We knew it was coming, but we naively believed that it would take longer than one week, and more than three dead grannies, to shut down Russia. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin – the fink of our time – has ordered all restaurants, shops and non-essential businesses to close their doors starting on Saturday. The city’s cherished parks and museums will also be shuttered. His decree was followed a day later by a fun little update from Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who casually dropped on Friday that the new restrictions being implemented in Moscow would actually be extended to the entire country.

Why didn’t Hitler invade Russia with a ubiquitous virus that kills less people than the common cold? Think of all the chiseled SS death squads that would still be alive and well.

In his coronavirus address, Vladimir Putin promised to squeeze the rich and install safety nets for the vulnerable. With the Russian economy additionally hammered by the oil price drop, this begins the true test of his presidency.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin made his first direct appeal to the nation since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. This was Putin’s most somber address to the Russians in his two decades in power, with the Russian leader essentially admitting that the country faces a grave economic crisis due to the spreading coronavirus disease and an imminent global recession.

The Washington Post Admits Crimeans Are Happy Russians

The Washington Post – an inveterate keystone of US foreign policy propaganda – made a surprising admission recently. The people of Crimea – allegedly “annexed” by the Russian Federation – are vastly satisfied under Moscow’s governance.

The Washington Post article titled, “Six years and $20 billion in Russian investment later, Crimeans are happy with Russian annexation,” attempts in every way to misrepresent, and deny the cause and obvious implications of the polling data presented – but still admits:

…the annexation was popular, especially among Crimea’s large population of older ethnic Russians. More than five years later, and billions of rubles of investment later, it remains popular.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Et Tu, Tony Cartalucci?!?

NO, Russia did not ANNEX Crimea; post the US sponsored-putsch in Ukraine, putting Poroshenko into power Obama admits that US brokered a deal in support of regime change in Ukraine, the Crimeans did two things.

First, the Crimeans held a well-supervised,voted-upon referendum, where they were asked if they wanted to stay with Ukraine, post-putsch, or petition Russia to join the Russian Federation; in an overwhelming vote, they chose the later.

Tony, Russia did not annex Crimea; please, you're better than this!!!

The pro-Western World Uyghur Congress (WUC) Is Being Used “To Detonate the World”

You read about the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suddenly exploding, antagonizing Russia, even provoking the European Union, and sending more and more occupation troops into neighboring Syria. You could be forgiven for thinking that he has gone insane.

But no, there is actually a steely logic to his actions. For decades, Erdogan has believed that the Turkic minority ethnic group, mainly found in China’s Xinjiang Province, is the proverbial birthplace of the Turkish nation. When he was the mayor of the city of Istanbul, he even erected a small statue of a Uyghur, in the historical Sultan Ahmed neighborhood.

US plans to build new base in western Iraq for Patriot missile system deployment: Source

An Iraqi security source says the US military intends to construct a new military base in the country’s western province of al-Anbar for the deployment of Patriot missile systems.

“US forces intend to establish a new base in Umm Samij area north of al-Baghdadi district in the city of Hit in order to deploy a Patriot anti-missile system, and protect Ain al-Assad air base as well as other locations in western regions against possible attacks,” the unnamed source told Iraq’s Arabic-language al-Ahad news agency on Monday.

He noted, “Identification of a location for the deployment of the Patriot missile system is the first of its kind in Iraq. Such measures are indicative of US forces’ intention to stay in their bases in the western regions of Iraq for a long period of time.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF in fact this report is true, (and presstv.com generally "nails and vets" its information before it is published), it is correct in its assessment that it does not appear that the US government is planning to leave Iraq soon; in fact, such a base of operation might well be established as a "forward operation base" from which to attack Iran directly, should that be the thinking in DC.

I do not know how long it takes to build a military base in a foreign country; but after the Covid 19 has peaked in Iran, one may well see some kind of US military action against it, and perhaps sooner than later, to demonstrate that the current administration is "doing something" against Iran before November's election; if, in fact, the US election IS held in November of this year.

Russian military planes carrying medics and equipment fly to devastated Italy to help combat Covid-19 pandemic

Seven of the nine military transport planes prepared by Russia to deliver help to Italy in its desperate fight against the Covid-19 infection have departed an air base near Moscow.

The Ilyushin Il-76 planes are heading to the Pratica di Mare Air Base of the Italian Air Forces near Rome, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. The planes are carrying Russian military medics and specialists in infectious diseases, as well as equipment necessary for diagnostics and disinfection of the deadly coronavirus.

Source Reveals Why NATO Warships in Black Sea Can’t Collect Intelligence Against Russian Fleet

NATO warships sailing near Russia’s borders in the Black Sea around the Crimean peninsula are virtually incapable of carrying out any useful reconnaissance thanks to the Russian military’s powerful coastal electronic warfare systems, a source in the region’s security apparatus has said.

Commenting on the alliance’s “attempt to penetrate” the region’s “communications and digital networks,” the source indicated that this was made impossible as a result of the deployment and real-world testing of the latest electronic warfare countermeasures.

“As a result [of these measures] NATO warships turn around and leave,” the official said.

Washington Post breaks ranks with other US & UK media, ADMITS polls show Crimeans prefer to be part of Russia

One of the curious things about Western media coverage of Crimea since 2014 has been the consistent narrative that Russia's reabsorption of the peninsula was carried out against the will of locals.

Look, you can make legitimate arguments about international law and the way the process was carried out. But attempts to give the impression Moscow somehow dragged residents kicking and screaming into the Russian Federation have always been ridiculous.

The overwhelming majority of Crimeans want to be part of Russia. This fact is not disputed by any credible expert on the post-Soviet space and is also borne out by opinion polling, including surveys carried out by American and German companies.

The Coming War On China (China Documentary) | History Documentary | Reel Truth History

The Coming War on China, from award winning journalist John Pilger, reveals what the news doesn’t – that the world’s greatest military power, the United States, and the world’s second economic power, China, both nuclear-armed, may well be on the road to war.

Nuclear war is not only imaginable, but planned. The greatest build-up of NATO military forces since the Second World War is under way on the western borders of Russia. On the other side of the world, the rise of China is viewed in Washington as a threat to American dominance.

Putin Won't Blink First: Putin Rejects Potential US 'Intervention' In Russia-Saudi Oil War

"We do not think that anyone should intervene in these relations," the Russian presidency's office stated Friday of its "good relationship" and "partnership" with the Saudis, hitting back at Trump's comments on the emerging oil-price war. Yesterday President Trump described the Saudi-Russia oil price war as "very bad" for Saudi Arabia but ultimately "devastating" to Russia, but with the consolation of lower prices at the pump for American consumers.

Trump assured the public that “we have a lot of power over the situation,” adding that that Washington will attempt mediate the dispute “at the appropriate time.” This after US oil prices collapsed by a staggering 24% Wednesday to just $20, before clawing back Thursday afternoon and into Friday morning to $25 on Trump's comments and especially reports that the US will buy up to 30 million barrels of crude for its emergency stockpile by the end of June.

Irritated by Russia-Turkey Idlib Deal, US Ready to Undermine Syrian Settlement - Moscow

On 5 March, Moscow and Ankara clinched a ceasefire deal to stop an ongoing escalation between Turkish and Syrian forces in Idlib Province, and to establish joint military patrols in the area.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters on Friday that the US, which is frustrated over the Moscow-Ankara accord on the Idlib settlement, uses any pretext to promote anti-Russian hysteria.

She said that the Ministry has paid attention to “the intensification of contacts between American politicians and the quasi-humanitarian organisation White Helmets operating in Syria”.

“Such contacts usually end up with big problems in the region in the form of provocations and provocative actions. On 17 March, US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun met the White Helmets leader despite restrictions on contacts with foreigners introduced by the State Department in connection with the spread of the coronavirus", Zakharova said.

Russia's gold & near-zero debt give it best chance of thriving in post-coronavirus apocalypse – Max Keiser

The coronavirus pandemic has popped a quadrillion-dollar financial bubble and we can expect a very deep and prolonged period of adjustment, RT's veteran business commentator Max Keiser believes.

The financial crisis, which many believe we have just entered, stems from the times of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, with the establishment of 'neoliberal' policies "that enriched bankers and destroyed workers by giving bankers free reign to borrow and speculate without oversight or accountability," Keiser told RT. Now, governments will have to adjust to a new reality, and having a low debt and massive reserves could be the trump card, according to the former Wall Street stockbroker.

"Russia has the best hand at the geopolitical poker table. The Kremlin, for 20 years, has been doing the opposite of everyone else by reducing their national debt to near zero, and buying thousands of tons of gold while simultaneously raising living standards," he said.

The Inevitable Outcome Of The Oil Price War

In purely basic oil economics terms, Russia has a budget breakeven price of US$40 per barrel of Brent this year: Saudi’s is US $84. Russia can produce over 11 million barrels per day (mbpd) of oil without figuratively breaking sweat; Saudi’s average from 1973 to right now is just over 8 mbpd. Russia’s major oil producer, Rosneft, has been begging President Putin to allow it to produce and sell more oil since the OPEC+ arrangement was first agreed in December 2016; Saudi’s major oil producer, Aramco, only suffers value-destruction in such a scenario. This includes for those people who were sufficiently trusting of MbS to buy shares in Aramco’s recent IPO. Russia can cope with oil prices as low as US$25 per barrel from a budget and foreign asset reserves perspective for up to 10 years; Saudi can manage 2 years at most.

Pompeo and Netanyahu Paved a Path to War With Iran, and They’re Pushing Trump Again

by Gareth Porter Posted on March 21, 2020

The administration of President Donald Trump may escape the most recent conflict with Iran without war, however, a dangerous escalation is just over the horizon. And as before, the key factors driving the belligerence are not outraged Iraqi militia leaders or their allies in Iran, but Trump’s secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has long sought to draw the US into a military confrontation with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this push for war with Iran, under Trump's watch, will not end well.

Even though Iran is reeling from the effects of an horrific Covid 19 epidemic, not one single US-engineered sanction will be lifted, to speed the delivery of desperately needed drugs, food, and aid for this beleaguered country.

Right now, President Trump isn't looking at any attack on Iran's alleged "proxies" in Iran, because the optics would be awful; that, of course, is no guarantee that the Israeli intelligence, or military, hasn't got several "false flags" up their collective sleeves, to be "green lit" at the moment when Netanyahu needs "maximum coverage and distraction" away from his corruption trials, which began last Tuesday, 17 March Court Denies Request for Delays in Netanyahu's Corruption Trials

Netanyahu desperately needs a distraction here, and damned quickly; what better "distraction" than an alleged "Iranian attack" against either Israeli or US assets in the Middle East, to which President Trump would be "obligated to respond"?!?

But I would, very politely, like to mention (again) to all Foggy Bottomites (and their underlings, occasionally "cursed" with having to read this blog) that last Summer at a gathering in Moscow, a Moscow politician assured his Iranian counterparts that should Iran be attacked, it "would not be alone."
Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The article goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

When asked if Russia was ready to provide material support to Iran if the U.S. attacks it, Kabulov said that “specific actions are a question for the Russian president.”

“But it’s not just Russia, many other countries sympathize and empathize with Iran,” the Kommersant business daily quoted him as saying. “Tehran won’t be alone if the U.S., God forbid, takes wild and irresponsible actions against it.”

You can bet your sweet bippie, that Kabulov would never have made that statement, unless he had full, and completely supported, support from Putin to say it.

War with Russia over Iran?!?

Folks, please think about this; because the next time the Unhinged, Surveilled, State of Amerika re-introduces a draft, it will be not only becoming for your your sons, but also your daughters as well.

U.S. Oil Industry Could End Up Losing More Than 200,000 Jobs

With West Texas Intermediate below $30 a barrel and Saudi Arabia’s plans to keep pumping as much as it can for as long as it can, the U.S. oil industry is bracing for job losses that could end up in five-figure territory. “A sustained drop in oil prices would cost the sector 50,000-75,000 jobs if employment returned to its low from a few years ago,” the chief economist of PGIM Fixed Income, Nathan Sheets, told CNBC this week.

Trump To Intervene In Russia-Saudi Price War At "Appropriate Time" After Crude Hit $20

As Congressional voices and US oil companies have grown louder in urging President Trump to mount a muscular pushback against the Russians and Saudis flooding the market following their spat early this month that triggered an ongoing oil-price war — which lately witness crude falling to $20 yesterday — the administration has said it plans to get involved at "the appropriate time" and hopes to find a "middle ground". Trump said Thursday at a White House briefing: "They are in a fight on price, on output," and indicated that "At the appropriate time I will get involved."

Early this month the Saudis were caught completely off-guard when Putin said Russia would ignore Riyadh and OPEC+ plans to significantly cut production, effectively and dramatically overturning the balance of power in the oil world while declaring war on US shale, sending crude prices crashing and leaving dozens of American producers teetering on bankruptcy.

Lockheed Martin Releases Clip Of Simulated Attack On Russian Defense Systems

Leave it to a major US arms defense contractor to hype the "ever-evolving threats" to US national security in a new hugely provocative video at a time the world fights an "invisible enemy" - as world leaders are calling it - in the form of the Covid-19 panemic.

A new promotional video released by Lockheed Martin simulates what appears to be a major airstrike on Russian weaponry. Taking note of the promo which features CGI footage, Russian state media described it as a "simulated first strike on Russian positions and weapons systems."

Specifically Russia’s trademark S-400 anti-air systems are among the targets of Lockheed's own systems in the simulated portion of the video, all of which touts the comany's Advanced Development Programs, also known as Skunk Works, which is an elite group tasked with working with the Pentagon on the most advanced and secretive projects.

Watch: Lockheed Martin Uses Computer Graphics to Destroy Russia’s S-400s in New Promo

The clip, which heaps praise on the secretive Skunk Works division, notably features mostly computer-generated prototypes of aircraft, with the problematic F-35 fighter jet being the only already-existing model.

Lockheed Martin Corp has released a promotional video that appears to show a simulated airstrike on Russian weaponry.

More than halfway into the promo, CGI footage shows strikes by Lockheed’s planes on Russia’s trademark S-400 anti-air systems and a road-mobile Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile system, as the voice-over narrates about the “ever-evolving threats” to US security.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem with the way in which the US military buys weapons from its suppliers, is rife with corruption and controversy, and must change immediately, if the US is ever going to gain, and maintain, weapons superiority against Russia and China.

It is no secret that the companies creating hardware and software for America's weaponry, donate to both sides of the aisle, so that at the end of the day, no matter which candidates or parties dominate the White House, their products will still be chosen.

And unless these products are designed intelligently, brilliantly well, and honor the American people, by also being brilliantly cost-effective, they will have failed this country miserably.

What our military needs, but is terrified to ask for, are weapons which get delivered timely; doing what they are advertised to do, and with no huge cost over-runs. Russia and China have those kinds of relationships with their suppliers; this country does not.

And THIS has cost us, and will cost us, big-time in terms of defensive and offensive weapons which really work, unless and until that changes.

And I will assure you, that US weapons manufacturers very much like the situation just as it is, with their ability to deliver so late, as to render them obsolete in the field; create products which ultimately never work as originally advertised, and have cost-overruns from here to, literally, eternity.

Rockets Hit Iraq Base Housing US Troops South of Baghdad

Details are still emerging, but this was much fewer rockets than previous strikes, and so far there has been no word of any casualties in the incident. The US has threatened retaliation for further attacks, but no such strikes were yet reported.

Both sides have been hitting one another recently and talking up escalation. That this was a much smaller, casualty-free attack may suggest that the militias are trying to save face but not escalate the matter any further.

This would depend heavily on the US not looking to escalate further either, however, and all indications out of the administration are that they consider the Iraqi militias to be “Iranian proxies,” and are very keen to keep picking fights with them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As Americans are well and truly distracted (and to some reasonable degree, should be) with Covid-19; hand sanitizers; and bathroom tissue, the folks in Foggy Bottom which brought you the original Iraq War, are most probably about to bring you the Iraq/Iran War 2.0, complete with very probable Russian military assistance to the Iranians.

Madness, you say?!? Absolute madness, writ large, dear readers, particularly
when a Russian Official, meeting with some Iranian counterparts in a Moscow conference last Summer, assured them that if Iran was attacked, "it would not stand alone."

Iran Won't Be Alone, if the US Attacks. The article, from last June's Moscow Times, English Language Edition, goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

Readers, career politicians like Kabulov do not even FART without Putin's approval; and this statement was just as much for American consumption as for the Iranian delegates attending; unfortunately, DC's lethal combination of a collective "tin ear", and general hubris, in light of the fact that the US has, ultimately, lost every war it has started since Vietnam, is not helping the situation.

Oh, and BTW, who, really, "won" the war in Iraq?!?

In short form, China. And why do I say this?!?

Take a look at the following headline, and see for yourself: Iraq signs contract with Chinese oil company to complete 80 wells in Iraq

You are probably looking at this headline, dated September 7th, 1999, foaming at the mouth, fulminating, and thinking, "why the hell were the American people not told about this?!?" It is simple; the Trump Administration didn't want you to know, so the story was suppressed in most English language papers.

Here are other articles about this, primarily from the foreign press, in English:

Iraq, China launch 'oil for reconstruction' agreement

OH, and WAIT: there's more from Reuters:

CORRECTED-China's CPECC wins $121 mln West Qurna-1 contract from Iraq

The US government is DESPERATE to prevent China from starting this development deal, so what are they going to do?!? They are going to create a situation so dangerous for the Chinese, that the risk/benefit ratio will make it "too difficult" for China to move ahead with this.

So, how will they do this?!?

By declaring "Iraq War 2.0", of course; unlike China, which very much likes to create deals to get what they want, the Foggy Bottomites will most likely declare a "national emergency", leading to yet more military conflict in Iraq, and potentially against Iran itself, from Iraq, no matter how much the Iraqi government protests, or the costs to the Iraqi and/or Iranian people.

The Coronavirus and the New World Order:“War is in the Air”"Time is out of joint..." – "Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark". William Shakespeare from his tragedy Hamlet

The worldwide fear of a hitherto unknown but supposedly highly contagious and weapons-grade virus means that many people feel paralysed, public life in several states is crippled by governments, at the same time fundamental civil liberties are “honed” or severely restricted and also the military is brought into readiness. What is going on here?

The former Soviet head of state Mikhail Gorbachev recently described the current political situation as extremely worrying. According to “Sputnik News” of 12.03.20 he wrote: “War is in the air.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

BUMP TO THE TOP

What concerns me most gravely right now, are statements from the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, regarding alleged "Iranian Paramilitary Activity", hitting the US's crumbling military stance in Iraq right now, where both the Iraqi people, and military, are demanding that the US military leave the country, and right the hell now.

We found this "little gem" in rt.com, their English language edition, yesterday: US will act in ‘self-defense’ if attacked in Iraq – Pompeo

The article went on to state: "Washington will act in “self-defense” in Iraq if its military comes under attack, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. US bases in Iraq have been repeatedly shelled recently and several servicemen have been killed and injured.

Pompeo told Iraqi PM Adil Abd al-Mahdi that Baghdad “must defend Coalition personnel supporting the Iraqi government's efforts to defeat ISIS,” the US Department of State said in a statement on Monday.

Those “responsible for the attacks must be held accountable,” the official warned, adding that Washington “will not tolerate attacks and threats to American lives” and will take “action as necessary in self-defense."

And right below that, we see the following headline: "Baghdad Summons US and British Envoys after condemning their strikes on Iraqi Targets as "violation of Sovereignty". The article goes on to state:

"Over the past week the US Camp Taji base, located north of Iraq’s capital, came under rocket shelling twice. On Wednesday, three soldiers, two from the US and one from the UK, were killed at the installation, while a dozen others were injured. Iraqi military personnel were affected by the attack as well.

While no one claimed responsibility for the deadly shelling, Washington was quick to blame Iraqi Shia militias for it and launched “retaliatory” airstrikes on them. Since said militias are an integral part of the Iraqi military, the US basically bombed its own allies, killing at least six servicemen and wounding several more."

So I have to ask; under what possible geopolitical circumstance, could this possibly make sense, in Pompeo's weltanschauung?!?

The answer becomes frighteningly real, from an except of the following article last year, in an interview Pompeo did, where he made the following statements, as recorded by bbcnews.com:;
Pompeo says God may have sent Trump to save Israel from Iran
The article goes on to state:

"US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said it is "possible" that President Donald Trump was sent by God to save Israel from Iran.

In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network during a high-profile trip to Israel, he said it was his faith that made him believe that.

He also praised US efforts to "make sure that this democracy in the Middle East, that this Jewish state, remains".

The comments came on a Jewish holiday celebrating rescue from genocide.

The holiday, Purim, commemorates the biblical rescue of the Jewish people by Queen Esther from the Persians, as the interviewer noted to Mr Pompeo.

What did Pompeo say?

He was asked if "President Trump right now has been sort of raised for such a time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from an Iranian menace".

"As a Christian, I certainly believe that's possible," said Mr Pompeo, a former member of Congress for Kansas and CIA director.

"I am confident that the Lord is at work here," he added."

OK, there you have it folks; to energize their evangelical base, a "faith-based" foreign policy has been put into play, which consistently demonizes Iran, and consistently characterises Israel as "the innocent party", in geopolitical affairs when most of the time, nothing could be further from the truth.

There's a phrase in DC, the originator of which I cannot recall at the moment, but it goes something like this; "Never let a good crisis go to waste"; now having said that, Covid 19, and its monumental spread, does comprise a health crisis of huge concern.

But please also note, today, in RT, there is a very serious article at the top of the blog with the following headline: US halts deployment & recalls troops from NATO’s biggest drill ‘Defender Europe 2020’ due to coronavirus threat

Sounds good, and reasonable, on the surface, doesn't it?!?

But what if there are other deployments to come for these military personnel, which may well not be announced beforehand?!?

I would like to politely speculate that these battles in Iraq against alleged "Iranian militia" at US Camp Taji base, and beyond, may well be only the "beginning here; the US government is flailing, in both Iraq, and in its Covid 19 response, and President Trump well knows that a combination of the wall-street melt-down with a "too-little too late" response to the pandemic, will most likely result in his 2020 candidacy going up in absolute flames, unless he "does something dramatic."

So please, do not bet that a war against Iran, and ultimately against Russia, which has declared their support for Iran should the US attack it (and publicly: Iran won't be alone if the US attacks it, says Russian official), is off the table for these people, particularly for Pompeo.

The world can't forget the fight for the Saudi crown amid virus panic: The political landscape is changing as the Covid-19 outbreak undermines Donald Trump and his allies, such as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

by Patrick Cockburn, theindependent.uk.co

The political consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic are already vast because its advance, and the desperate measures taken to combat it, entirely dominate the news agenda and will go on doing so for the foreseeable future, although it is in the nature of this unprecedented event that nothing can be foreseen.

History has not come to a full stop because of the virus, however: crucial events go on happening, even if they are being ignored by people wholly absorbed by the struggle for survival in the face of a new disease. Many of these unrecognised but very real crises are taking place in the Middle East, the arena where great powers traditionally stage confrontations fought out by their local proxies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, Patrick; let's not forget one very critical factoid, which you painfully and awkwardly attempted to camouflage by omission, in that last bit regarding Iraq's invasion of Kuwait:

[Congressional Record: January 26, 2011 (House)]
[Page H503]
HOW THE 20-YEAR WAR STARTED

The article went on to state: " Mr. PAUL. Mr. Speaker, how did the 20-year war get started? It had
been long assumed that the United States Government, shortly before
Iraq invaded Kuwait in August of 1990, gave Saddam Hussein a green
light to attack. A State Department cable recently published by
WikiLeaks confirmed that U.S. Ambassador April Glaspie did indeed have
a conversation with Saddam Hussein one week prior to Iraq's August 1,
1990, invasion of Kuwait. Amazingly, the released cable was entitled,
``Saddam's Message of Friendship to President Bush.'' In it, Ambassador
Glaspie affirmed to Saddam that ``the President had instructed her to
broaden and deepen our relations with Iraq.'' As Saddam Hussein
outlined Iraq's ongoing border dispute with Kuwait, Ambassador Glaspie
was quite clear that, ``we took no position on these Arab affairs.''
There would have been no reason for Saddam Hussein not to take this
assurance at face value. The U.S. was quite supportive of his invasion
and war of aggression against Iran in the 1980s. With this approval
from the U.S. Government, it wasn't surprising that the invasion
occurred. The shock and surprise was how quickly the tables were turned
and our friend, Saddam Hussein, all of a sudden became Hitler
personified.
The document was classified, supposedly to protect national security,
yet this information in no way jeopardized our security. Instead, it
served to keep the truth from the American people about an event
leading up to our initial military involvement in Iraq and the region
that continues to today.

{time} 1440

The secrecy of the memo was designed to hide the truth from the
American people and keep our government from being embarrassed.
This was the initial event that had led to so much death and
destruction--not to mention the financial costs--these past 20 years."

This is something which can no longer be ignored by either the American people, or the world, sir.

And to President Trump, sir, a word; your proclivity for liking the company of dictators who can "get away with" murder (literally, like Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Bin Salman, and never having to face the consequences), is something of which the American people are growing painfully tired.

Getting US troops out of Yemen, where they are enabling Saudi war crimes in that country, would be one of the most practically intelligent things you could do right now, but I am betting you won't, simply because of what could be characterized by "Imperial Hubris."

Please, have someone look up the words I have just typed, and break them down for you, simply.

Between the stock-market selloff, coupled with your lackluster Covid 19 scare response, your re-election, which seemed a safe bet several months ago, is now thrown open for question, and the challenge by your would-be Democratic contender, Joe Biden, whose mental faculties seem to be sorely, and publicly, tested by this campaign, is gaining pace.

And while there are moments when I worry about your desire to throw weapons at the bad guy (whoever the "bad guy du jure" is), I cringe to think that it might possibly be a President Biden with his hands around the nuclear football.

Putin Unleashes Strategic Hell on the U.S.

I am an avid board game player. I’m not much for the classics like chess or go, preferring the more modern ones. But, regardless, as a person who appreciates the delicate balance between strategy and tactics, I have to say I am impressed with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s sense of timing.

Because if there was ever a moment where Putin and Russia could inflict maximum pain on the United States via its Achilles’ heel, the financial markets and its unquenchable thirst for debt, it was this month just as the coronavirus was reaching its shores.

Like I said, I’m a huge game player and I especially love games where there is a delicate balance between player power that has to be maintained while it’s not one’s turn. Attacks have to be thwarted just enough to stop the person from advancing but not so much that they can’t help you defend on the next player’s turn.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have always seen Putin as a master chess player on the geopolitical stage, and no where did this become more apparent than his economic moves last week; unfortunately, the guy is generally 40 moves ahead of the entire US government, and that.... is a problem for the US government.

NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg has said the Defender-Europe 20 exercises will not be cancelled due to the flu-like disease which has now spread to every country in the European Union causing hundreds of deaths so far.

Assad has won the war but has no legitimacy: ex-CIA director

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:40 P.M.) – In article penned on OZY, ex-CIA director John McLaughlin argues that Syria is reaching its end game after nine years of conflict between multiple parties, including the government and opposition factions.

According to the author, “Syria’s Assad has won — at least military,” pointing to the fact that the Syrian Armed Forces have managed to retake most of the country.

US now openly admits its goal in Syria is to make it 'difficult' for Moscow and Damascus to defeat terrorists

The State Department’s special envoy for Syria has just admitted that the US aims to defend jihadist militants in Idlib against ‘Russian aggression,’ proving once again that the swamp in Foggy Bottom is alive and well.
Russia and the Syrian government “are out to get a military victory in all of Syria,” Ambassador James Jeffrey told reporters on a conference call out of Brussels on Tuesday.

Our goal is to make it very difficult for them to do that by a variety of diplomatic, military, and other actions.

To illustrate these methods, Jeffrey cited the US threat to respond “in a very savage military way” against any chemical attacks, which he described as “a favorite tactic of the Syrian regime in making advances.” This is factually untrue, since the alleged attacks always happen after Syrian Army victories, as a pretext for US intervention.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hearing the consistent hissings of US government lying is enough to make me physically ill; but Jeffries is near the competitive "gold" for describing the reality that the US hires, trains, arms, and funds terrorists, to keep the Russians and Syrian government from winning this war.

I would like to politely remind him, that payback for this kind of public lying, and the actions it can attempt to justify, can be a real bear.

Russia Rejects Turkey’s Proposal To Jointly Steal Syria’s Oil, Erdogan Threatens Turning To US Instead

Turkey’s President said he has proposed to his Russian counterpart that the two countries “jointly operate” the eastern Syrian oilfields, adding he could make the same offer to the United States, which is already implicated in stealing the Syrian crude.

The Ukraine: Things Fall Apart

Volodymyr Zelensky used to play a school teacher on a hit Ukrainian TV show called "Servant of the People." The premise was simple: a video goes viral of the teacher sounding off about corruption and, before you know it, he’s elected president. The program did so well that Zelensky formed a political party called "Servant of the People," ran for president against incumbent Petro Poroshenka, and won election by a margin of three to one – not on TV, but for real. Evidently, life imitates art so perfectly in the Ukraine that it’s sometimes hard to tell where one begins and the other leaves off.

US Nukes Reportedly Delivered To Poland

In order to prevent the conflict in the region to be nuclear, USA decided to take the nukes out of Turkey. The fact of taking the ammunition out of the country was widely discussed in Turkish media.

The media informed that five C-17A Globemasters III arrived to Incerlik AB from Ramstein Air Base and took the whole bulk of nukes out to Germany, Poland and one of the Baltic States.

An official in the Air Mobility Command who wished to remain anonymous said that the nuclear ammunition had already been delivered to Powidz, Poland in early March 2020.

In this way the tensions are to rise in Europe: the biggest US maneuvers in Europe, more nukes– that can provoke reactions from Russia.

Moscow has already warned that Russian government would take responsive measures to an upcoming, massive U.S. military deployment and U.S.-led exercises across multiple European states bordering Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, just because something is the most pig-headedly, ham-fistedly stupid thing the US government could ever do, is no guarantee that it will not do just that, which is one of the most frightening aspects of US foreign policy; and right now, looking at the Turkish and Russian positions in Syria, this could potentially devolve into all-out war, as both Turkey and the US are sister NATO countries, and the US (and Israel) want Al Assad's government crushed to smithereens in Damascus.

Autarky Economics

Putin is aiming for a limited form of autarky to protect Russia against the west. This is the Britannica version and they don't like autarky. The USA used to practice a limited form of autarky with tariffs that raised money for the federal government. Before the War of Northern Aggression, the South paid most of the tariffs and the Morill tariff which tariffed outgoing Southern raw material was the last straw. The NWO boys can't be too happy with Vladimir Putin. They hate autarky and self sufficient countries.

Putin's Crude Revenge

Last week, OPEC called on Russian oil companies to lower production in response to reduced demand from China and a Eurozone bound for recession. They said no.

Just like that, oil took a nosedive, losing 25% of its value on Monday. The price of a barrel of oil closed at $33 dollars, compared to $45 late last week.

For the last decade, America's rise as an oil exporting power thanks to the expensive shale exploiting process has allowed neocons to cripple the economies of Venezuela, Iran and Russia.

‘Western ideologists will go crazy’: Putin leaves door open to run for president again

Speaking to the Russian parliament Tuesday, Vladimir Putin argued that stable leadership is good for a country in turbulent times but does it mean we'll really see him in power beyond 2024.

Putin said Tuesday that he will seek a new term when his current one is up “only if it’s approved by the Constitutional Court and if citizens support such a proposal” when they vote for constitutional amendments on April 22.

He addressed the issue during a speech in parliament after MP and the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova, called for his tenure to be reset so that he would be eligible for two more runs before being subject to the new restrictions, envisaged by the amendments.

The changes to Russia's principal law, among other things, include redistributing some powers away from the president to the parliament, banning state officials from having foreign citizenship and setting the minimum wage above the basic cost of living.

In Crashing the Oil Price, Russia Just Told the World, 'No!'

There is real power in the word “No.”

In fact, I’d argue that it is the single most powerful word in any language.

In the midst of the worst market meltdown in a dozen years which has at its source problems within global dollar-funding markets, Russia found itself in the position to exercise the Power of No.

Multiple overlapping crises are happening worldwide right now and they all interlock into a fabric of chaos.

Between political instability in Europe, presidential primary shenanigans in the U.S., coronavirus creating mass hysteria and Turkey’s military adventurism in Syria, the eastern Mediterranean and Libya, markets are finally calling the bluff of central bankers who have been propping up asset prices for years.

Russia’s Rejection of OPEC+ Was the Result of Cold Geostrategic Calculations

The world is still trying to figure out why Russia rejected its OPEC+ partners’ request late last week to further curtail its oil production next month, with this surprise decision prompting the Saudis to wage their oil price war that’s since crashed the price of this indispensable resource and caused panic across the global economy. The prevailing theory is that Moscow sought to simultaneously take down its American shale rivals while chipping away at some of Riyadh’s gradually declining market share, timing its move to coincide with the US’ campaign season and Saudi Arabia’s continued political uncertainty for maximum effect. That explanation is indeed plausible but focuses almost entirely on Russia’s economic motivations, leaving out what the author believes are the crucial geostrategic ones that actually played a much larger role in this decision than most observers have yet to realize.

Don't Be Fooled By The Oil Price Rebound

A mild winter in the northern hemisphere, the COVID-19 outbreak, and now the price war that Saudi Arabia declared last weekend have combined to produce an all-new oil price crisis just four years after the last one. And things might get worse before they get better.

Russian Scientists Discover Previously Unknown Property of Ceramics

Scientists at Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) have discovered a previously unknown physical effect, which significantly increases the control capabilities of ceramics. According to the authors of the study, their findings can be used to develop new types of ceramics with improved performance.

The TPU scientists have discovered that after treating alumina ceramics with high-energy ion beams, their structural properties change at depths exceeding ion penetration depth. A similar phenomenon – the so-called long-range effect – was previously observed only when irradiating metals.

“We’ve found that structural-phase changes in ceramics occur at depths hundreds of times greater than ion penetration depth. There is still no definite explanation for this effect; there’re still heated discussions regarding the phenomenon,” Sergey Gyngazov, Professor at the TPU Control and Diagnostics Department, said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good on the TPU scientists; this discovery may well change the way industrial ceramics are created forever!!
