Iran Says Biden Illegally Threatened Tehran During Bennett Meeting

On Saturday, an Iranian official said President Biden illegally threatened Iran during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that took place in Washington on Friday.

Alongside Bennett, Biden told reporters that if “diplomacy fails” with Iran, the US was ready to “turn to other options.”

Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, denounced Biden’s choice of words on Twitter. “The emphasis on using ‘other options’ against [Iran] amounts to threatening another country illegally and establishes Iran’s right to reciprocate … against ‘available options,'” Shamkhani wrote.

Iran’s fears of being attacked by Israel or the US are not unfounded. Israel frequently attacks Iran covertly, and these missions are tacitly endorsed by Washington since the US never condemns them. Ahead of his meeting with Biden, Bennett told The New York Times that Israel will continue clandestine attacks against Iran.
